Located in the middle of everything. Great location. You can hear the horse and carriage on the street. You can see up and down Duke of Gloucester St. It is very nice to take a walk around the colonial area at night. I have also stayed in the Chiswell Bucktrout House and the location of the Market Square Tavern Room is MUCH better. Staff at the Williamsburg Inn are always top notch. Rooms are a bit quirky and that is too be expected but the shower in the room was a bit too much.

Absolutely incredible stay here. If you are a history lover, you will love this place. It is an original building. I will stay here every time I visit Williamsburg. The price was very affordable. The only downsides are: 1) we had to check-in at the upscale Williamsburg Inn and it was very weird and awkward and 2) there are very few places to eat within walking distance and the few places there are have to be reserved in advance and are pricey.

Part of the Williamsburg Inn, The Market Square Tavern is one of the tavern boarding house options on the property that allows guests to stay within the pedestrian-only confines of Colonial Williamsburg, directly on the “East Duke of Gloucester Street”. The house has rooms on two stories and a common room for guests that are approximations of the type of guest quarters available in the 18th century. While rustic, the rooms are comfortable and offer the usual 21st century comforts of electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, and coffee makers. The main downside is sound proofing. The building can be noisy and you can hear other guests and staff in adjoining rooms and the hallways. You also need to walk in with your luggage. You can park nearby but it’s about 200 ft. from the lot to your room, and there may be stairs. While not as luxurious as the rooms located within the hotel, the Tavern Houses are more affordable and provide access to all of the Inn’s amenities including their pool and spa.People stay here for the experience and location. It’s a unique way to immerse yourself in Colonial Williamsburg, but it’s definitely a bit rustic and can be cramped. If you want creature comforts, staying at the Inn or the Williamsburg Lodge is a better choice.

Loved the period styling of the modern appointed room. We were in a room under the eaves, so the shower was a little weird, but the tub was nice and long for a sit down shower.Breakfast was comped at the hotel as part of our package, which was a nice highlight.

Lovely guesthouse right on Duke of Gloucester St in Colonial Williamsburg. Steps away from 18th century restaurants and shops.

Williamsburg has an amazing option....you can actually stay in some of the historic properties in Colonial Williamsburg!! We stayed in the Market Square Tavern, right on Duke od Gloucester and right across from Chowning's Tavern. Our room is on the second floor and is fabulous! We have a private bath, queen size canope bed, sitting area, plus access to the sitting room downstairs. There is free parking for guests. The location is great. Beautiful garden out back. Has a mini fridge and coffee maker. Ice is also available. Period furnishings make it really nice!

Amazing experience! A young Thomas Jefferson even stayed here when living in Williamsburg so you know it's legit. This place is also great because you can use all the amenities of the fancy Williamsburg Inn hotel that's in walking distance but spend the night in a authentic colonial room. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
