My three (now teen) children went to The Island School from Kindergarten to 5th grade. The teachers spent time getting to know what made each of my children unique. Because of this school, my children know themselves, how they learn best and that they matter. We still spend many family dinners reminiscing about Island School memories including Monday Morning Sing, Cultural Study, the Science Fair Egg Drop, Junk Art, Fletcher...so many fabulous memories!!! This is an absolutely fabulous school!

When we went looking at schools for our son's Kindergarten year, we looked at the best options available in Kitsap County. After vetting and visiting our top three, there was no question in our minds - The Island School was the unanimous pick of our family! That was two years ago, and we are so happy we made the right choice. The Island School is a place where children can not only get an engaged, high-quality education that nurtures their natural strengths and curiosity, but also the equally important social instruction that communicates kindness, respect, and love for each other, regardless of race, background, gender or orientation. Check it out!

My son graduated from The Island School and my daughter is currently enrolled there, and both have had phenomenal experiences. Not only are they well-prepared academically, but also they have learned to truly enjoy learning, and have developed inquisitive minds, compassionate character, and a more. The faculty and staff at The Island School, and the supportive community of parents, are committed to every single student and their growth and wellbeing. We're thrilled to have had the opportunity to be a part of The Island School.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this school has been for our family. We have found a wonderful inclusive community here and my boys are flourishing. They are excited to hop out of the car every morning and I feel so happy to be taking them to a place they love and where people know and love them. I think many schools have outstanding teachers and devoted staff, but it's the structure, culture, and opportunities for individualized attention and creativity here that really make a difference. Learning is project and play based, individualized, based on a growth mindset, and teacher/student ratios are small enough that kids get lots of 1:1 instruction. I love they they have tons of field trips, swimming instruction, culture study, a natural playground, and strong academics, but mostly I love that kids feel safe to make mistakes and be themselves even if that means being different. I am thrilled that the school has kindled my children's love of learning, and ability to think flexibly. Mostly I love that they love going to school. We came to BI for this school and after four years we are still so happy to be a part of it.

We never thought that we could love a school so much until we saw our kindergartener’s eyes widen and a huge smile break across her face as the amazing music teacher led the entire school in singing and howling to "Oh, I Want to Be a Dog" at Monday Morning Sing. We thought, “What a gift.”When I drop our daughter off in the morning, she runs into the school excited about her day. When she comes through the doors in the afternoon, she can’t wait to tell me about how much fun she had and how much she learned in class and during her adventures on the playground at recess where everyone is included. We love that the teachers are free to develop curriculum based upon their wisdom, their unique experiences and what they know is best for the children. Their dedication to inspire joy, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning in a warm community that cares about kindness is what makes us passionate supporters of The Island School. The Island School is a special place. We are thrilled that our daughter is fortunate do be able to spend her school days of childhood at a place where she is seen, heard and celebrated and encouraged to be an inquisitive, kind, caring and contributing person in this world.

An alum of the school, many of my core beliefs were seeded and nurtured by The Island School and its teachers. Through their own passions, and by example The Island School staff engender the social/emotional skills that have become fundamental to the school's curriculum and a keystone of my own life. Due in large part to The Island School community I believe that I am a capable, creative, and kind human!

We moved to Bainbridge Island so my son could begin kindergarten. We were all ready to begin at the Waldorf school, but in the end wanted a school where I could volunteer in the classroom. So, through our efforts to find the perfect fit, we discovered The Island School. My son is now in second grade.I could go on and on about the million reasons why I love this school, but none compare to the fact that my son loves to go to school every morning. The Island School provides him with such a strong sense of community. For example, the expectation that there is NO excluding during recess games, makes such a profound impact. The teachers are there on the playground, and they are involved. Children are held accountable for their actions. In the day and age of bullying, one can easily understand the depth of this. This is an outstanding school! The art, the Cultural Study, the library, the playground, the woods, the music, Monday morning sing, Trish, Loretta, and the list goes on and on. Boy do we consider ourselves lucky. The coffee is pretty good too:)

My son is currently in 4th grade at The Island School and I'm convinced his experience there is a gift that will keep on giving for his lifetime. The leadership and staff are extraordinary. The environment is light-filled, warm, and comfortable. And, his interest in learning is boundless. The Island School's commitment to engage the mind and heart of every child in a culture that values excellent education, joy in learning, and respect and appreciation for others, shines through in every classroom, play space, office, hallway, and corner of the school. If you are looking for a K-5th independent school, I highly recommend a visit to The Island School.

As the parent of a 5th grader, I am so grateful to The Island School for providing my son with such a solid academic and emotional foundation for a lifetime of learning.
