“While Haggens and Safeway are owned by Albertsons, there are some differences between the stores. Unfortunately, they are now on the most expensive end of Whatcom grocery options.Still, Meridian, (or "Dark Haggen," as it's known by locals) is the best Haggen. It manages to cram a whole lot of variety onto the shelves. While they don't have the best produce in town, they usually replace anything that's not okay). Functional baked goods, not high-end but decent breads, rolls and desserts. Their vegan options keep expanding and now include cakes, Impossible and Beyond meat alternatives, lots of cheeses (including vegan ricotta) -- although it seems they are carrying fewer vegan bakery options.Most of the staff are friendly and professional and go out of their way to help customers - and it never feels like it's a problem or annoying to do so.
