I well remember when the owner was in high school and delivered part-time for the late Glen Gossage, who I always held in high regard. Mike was a conscientious and friendly fellow back then in the 70’s, and he brought these qualities into his own business. Which is why I am still a customer after many years. The folks who work in Long Term Care are always helpful and polite, and take care to explain new medications well, including ones for my cats. I love that I am supporting a local business through my custom here, and I want to say that I especially love the delivery folks, who are always on time, and smiling. Sometimes they make my day. Marianne and Dan both know my cat’s name and take time to greet him properly. Now that’s class, folks.

I had a terrible experience here. As a young person living with chronic illness and a compromised immune system, I needed to get a specific pneumonia vaccine for immune testing that most pharmacies do not carry locally. I filled out paperwork online and was happy to find out that Hoagland carried pneumovax. I was unaware I needed to have a precription faxed over for it, but it was no problem to do that. However, the pharmacy tech made a big deal about my age being nowhere near the recommended 65 (clearly). When I asked for the fax number, she started speaking it from memory and I had to ask her to right it down, which she looked extrememly bothered by. When I returned later that day after my doctor faxed the prescription, she made a lot of comments about my situation made via shouting out me behind the counter while I was seated. It felt really unprofessional and like my situation was on display for everyone to hear. When I was taken back, the tech said "this is not normal" and I agreed and explained I had chronic illness. However, I should still be treated normal. I am a person needing a vaccine like anyone else. To top it off, I get a message from my pcp 5 days later saying that Hoagland is concerned that I got the wrong vaccine that I should have gotten a different one based on their recommendations. Hoagland doesn't even entirely understand my medical condition. My doctor is specifically testing me for antibodies found in pneumovax. That is the vaccine I received. I'm not sure why there is confusion around that. And why they decided to question it after administering it to me. I guess next time I need a vaccine that no one in Bellingham carries, I'll save myself the headache and discrimination and drive to Everett instead.

This place doesn’t ever seem to notify you when your medication‘s are ready to pick up I never get a phone call or a text message I recently refilled ADHD medication for my child who literally feels he cannot function in school without it to the point that he’s been skipping school because he’s been out of his medication They have had it ready for three days and didn’t bother calling me same thing for my other son’s much needed meds. Courtesy call would be exceptional service and unfortunately this is the second time this has occurred here. The reason for the initial holdup is because I needed to request refills from the doctors office because there were no more refills initially but after the doctor got back to them and wrote a new prescription I feel I should’ve been notified that things were finished and available to pick up.
Additionally it’s extremely frustrating that it takes so long to get to the menu option to reach the pharmacy when you first call this place there’s such a long Recording about information about the place that I don’t really want to know that wasn’t why I was calling I’m calling to speak to someone I don’t want to know your hours I don’t want to know when you go to lunch I feel if I want to know those things I can go ahead and ask the live person I’m speaking to. On top of that when someone does finally answer they usually put you on hold before you get a chance to reply yes.
Why does the whole Pharmacy go to lunch at the same time whatever happened to rotating lunch schedules? Closing for an hour in the middle of the day is pretty inconvenient especially for customers who are also trying to get things done on their lunch breaks

Good lord but this is a frustrating place! Whoever answers the phone sounds surly and will put you on hold in mid-sentence. The CSR at the drive through couldn't figure out how to use a debit card and just shrugged her shoulders like it was some newfangled technology she'd never seen before. They close in the middle of the day for lunch (they all have to go to lunch at the same time?!?) and can barely be reached during business hours. I'm done trying to deal with this place for my specialty medications (or any medications actually). Too bad this is the only local option for compounded medications. Back to mail-order it is.

I had used a generic large company pharmacy for years purely out of, what I thought at the time was, convenience. And few years ago I decided to switch to a local pharmacy because I want to support my community in better ways. I found Hoagland’s and I just wanted to write about how drastically different my experiences have been since switching.
Off the bay, It’s such a welcoming and clean place.
I’m not waiting in a long lines and treated like a number. I walk in and multiple people greet me and are there to help me. Sometimes there is a rush of people, but when there is, I notice everyone working there jumps in to help. They clearly operate as a team, which I love.
The staff has been beyond what I would expect. I realize it’s a business and it’s their job but, I do feel like Hoagland is more like a community and I am a part of it.
I’ve had my doctors office mess up prescriptions or have had to deal with things through insurance that won’t go through and when I have any questions the managers there clearly care and have gotten me exactly the information I needed to fix the problem.
I also love and appreciate the techs calling me and keeping me updated if there is a back order on my prescriptions! And even sometimes I forget and a couple days later I get another reminder call. Life is so busy and for them to just take that little bit of time to help me out…really, I couldn’t ask for much more!
So thank you Hoagland for just being a better quality of business!

I am extremely disappointed with the service at Hoagland Pharmacy. I had been waiting for the prescription refill, only to find out when I called if the medication is ready for pick up that there were no more refills left. The pharmacy never notified me in advance, leaving me scrambling to contact the doctor at the last minute. This lack of communication is unacceptable, especially when it involves medication that we rely on daily. This level of negligence shows a complete disregard for customer care.

Used my lunch break to pick up a prescription for a family member.
CLOSED from 1 - 2 every day.
I sat and watched dozens of cars pull in and leave during the half hour I waited for them to open back up.
Not a very smart way to run a business.
Given the choice, I'm going somewhere else next time.

Unfortunately, I’ve been a customer for far too long (over 17 years, to be exact) I’ve had nothing but issues (working in healthcare on and off for over a decade, I’m familiar with most pharmacies and realize they’re all terrible, however, due to the hassle of transferring, I’ve stayed with them, but after today, I will be finding a different pharmacy) I was prescribed a very common cough suppressant at 10am on a Friday. I sent my husband to pick it up, at 3:30pm the same day, along with some antibiotics for our son. They informed him that my cough suppressant wouldn’t be available until Monday (3 days from date of prescription - my issue with this is they had nearly 6 hours to notify me of this & there was zero communication, nor was there any intention whatsoever on their end to notify me, which would have allowed me to contact the clinic to have my prescription sent elsewhere) and they also refused to release the antibiotic to my husband without our sons physical insurance card; anyone who has taken insurance cards knows that the physical card is never a guarantee of coverage, so instead of simply requesting the member & group IDs, they insisted he drive back home to get the physical card to bring them, so that they could verify the coverage, using the numbers on the card. In my opinion, this was extremely poor customer service and as with most of the issues with picking up prescriptions from them, completely avoidable. As I stated, I will be finding a different pharmacy. They simply do not care about customer service or sick patients.

Been filling my epilepsy medication here for a while. I was told last week that it is on backorder and I could get a nine day supply. When I went in today to pick it up, the young gal at the drive-through didn’t know anything about receiving the rest of my prescription, she said that there was nothing on file about it. It was almost as if she expected me to just drive away without talking to anyone else so I asked her there’s any way she could look into it and she asked if I would to speak to a pharmacist and I said yes. The pharmacist who came over, told me that she remembered talking on the phone with my doctor last week and that my meds are on backorder and they gave me the rest of the supply they had in stock. When I asked if she knew if the rest was coming in, she said when she looked last week, it was on backorder and seemed very inconvenienced by my question. She then asked if I would like her to check again and I said yes, she walked over to computer for a couple seconds then hollered back at the window that it’s on back order. I am so sorry that me needing my epilepsy medication is an inconvenience to the folks working at this pharmacy. I called my doctor and had them send the prescription over to a different pharmacy in town that has it in stock. But now I’m having problems getting it because Hoagland's already ran it through the insurance. And I still paid the full co-pay that I normally pay for a 30 day supply even though I only received a nine day supply.

I switched to Hoagland a couple of years ago after Fred Meyer's pharmacy repeatedly failed to submit refill requests to my doctor. And I prefer dealing with a local business. Everyone is always polite and helpful, but actually getting my prescriptions filled is an ongoing struggle. My medications keep disappearing from my profile. Even after going into the pharmacy in person last month with a complete list of my medications, it took several trips to get everything resolved, but it finally appeared that they had a complete and accurate list. Today I went online to submit a refill request, and three items, icluding the one I need, are no longer listed. Is there a better option in town?
