After taking a tour, I went with my son for our first use of the gym. We ended up walking right out. The staff we spoke with during out tour were not honest about the daycare or their management of the safety of the facilities. Hopefully this will save some of you with children some time in avoiding this place altogether.
1. They do a terrible job of managing the homeless population in and around their facilities. They told us they have staff that keeps on eye on it and trespasses the homeless when seen on ymca property. This morning, however when walking through their parking lot (which was full, completely unusable, and poorly maintained), I noticed 2 people living (yes I mean living, they were basically camped out) between the ymca vans. One of them was actively deficating. Clearly the staff here is NOT on top of this issue.
2. We were told they rarely see more than 3 kids in the day care at a time. When I went on my first visit (normal weekday at 10am) the daycare was a chaotic mess and there were 8-10 kids being poorly managed by 2 daycare staff members.
3. The daycare staff consisted of 2 individuals in their early 20s. They were clearly overwhelmed and not managing the daycare well. I turned and walked out. I will not put my child in an environment where his wellbeing is dependant on someone who is clearly not capable.
Ultimately, this place could be great if the people in charge cared to do something about it. But my experience left me wondering where on earth the adults in charge were. If you have kids go somewhere else.
It is really unfortunate because all the other YMCAs in the area that we have used are wonderful (mt vernon, Stanwood, monroe). The YMCA is a great organization. This one just needs new management.

The building the YMCA is in is very old and beautiful, i love the history of the building. However my family and I visited recently and used a 3day pass we were given. We mainly went so the kids could enjoy the pool - the kids pool is VERY out dated, had many areas in the pool where the lining was coming up which caused sharp edges and i kept stepping on broken pool liner pieces. The lifeguard that was there also didnt make our visit very pleasant and was very nit-picky with what the kids (ours and another family) were doing. I get that its a small shallow pool and safety first and all but i think he was a little excessive with his requests to not do this or that. My kids left saying they never wanted to come back - we did not end up going back to use our remaining 2 visits. Ultimately im glad i did not purchase a membership here, huge disappointment.

The price for value you get for membership is here is amazing. Friendly staff, positive environment, and the gym has enough machines and space to be comfortable even at the busiest I've seen it. Also the YMCA is non-profit, who wants to pay those other greedy gyms with their sales tactics BS?

A great option for families. Not being open on Sunday is a huge minus for us though, as that would be one of the days we would go regularly on. :(

I love this YMCA. It is in such a great old building but I am very disappointed that they did away with the sauna. It was amazing. Sadly, I might be looking for a new gym with a sauna. Otherwise, this YMCA is wonderful.

I live so close to this ymca and I enjoy it for the most part. The crew are so kind and very welcoming! I also like all the machines provided for working out. Unfortunately coming here has spiked my germ anxiety and it’s hard for me to make myself go for fear of catching something. I see way too many people using all the machines with no sanitizing wipes.. (every machine says to wipe down before and after use, and the sanitizing wipes are provided in multiple dispensers) all I can think about is the germs my hands are picking up.. Also the elderly crowd loves to stand and watch you workout if you’re on a machine they want to use.. quite uncomfortable. I might switch gyms for peace of mind, sorry. :(

Not very clean. I asked for assistance never got a reply. offered to donate time to clean the Showers. Hypocritical organization that doesn't seem to care about humanity.

Why do they not take the time to update their classes and the website? False advertising!

Quite sad that this location recently permanently shut down a lot of aquatic recreational services: sauna, steam room, hot tub. Charity, fundraiser and public funds of generations of Americans were used to build these facilities in downtown Bellingham Y to serve the community and now they are being permanently shut down. Waste of charity money and ruining it for current and future generations of use. Is this a new Christian principle YMCA is following?
