Update: Last night I was in the store at 9pm. All check stands were closed with lights off and closed signs on the belt. Customers with carts full of groceries were forced to use the self checkout where three of the five staff members I counted were chatting away. This is not what self-checkout was designed for. Self-checkout was initially designed for those with a few items in a basket to bypass check out lines; not a cart full of groceries. I refused so they called someone to open a check stand for me. There are two QFC stores less than a mile in either directions on the same road. The ever dwindling staff and services is likely driving customers to these QFC stores. I am likely to follow. When they rolled out self-checkout at this store I was asked what I thought. I said this was the beginning of the end of the positive shopping experience. In my opinion self-checkout was aimed at increasing profits further by cutting staff and services. The nice lady taking the survey assured me self-checkout was being implemented to free up staff to ensure the store and customers are better looked after. I knew better. Sadly I was proven right.Years laters Safeway continues to be the most expensive and continues to slash staff. The end result is a negative shopping experience thanks to reduced services, lack of staff, quality of staff, mispriced or incorrectly shelved products, and dirty/smelly departments. Case in point the dairy cooler stench has been getting worse and worse the past few weeks. Last night is was downright awful. I suspect the dairy department doesn't have the staff and time to properly look after the department. The existing staff are increasingly pressured to take on more tasks with less time due to woefully understaffed stores. There are no friendly smiles or staff on the floor to assist customers. Those working in their departments during the day are so focused on getting their increased workload done. So much so they go out of their way to avoid eye contact with customers for fear of being interrupted as they feverishly work and speed walk around the store. Over the last couple years the atmosphere in the store has gone from vibrant and cheerful to dull and uninviting. Most of the time I feel as if I am an intruder interrupting their day.Original: 4:15 pm on a Monday: customer service is closed, meat department is closed, and there is nobody to assist. Once again I had to ask the cashier overseeing the entire self checkout area for assistance.Safeway, despite the higher prices than neighboring supermarkets and record profits, Safeway continues to cut back on employees and services customers rely on.Nearly every visit items I wished to purchase must be voided because they were incorrectly stocked, thus the wrong price. Today I needed a product listed as in stock only to find out it was discontinued months ago. These employees are stretched so thin they complain of being overworked and told they need to stay beyond their shift because others called out or quit. I totally sympathize with them. As a customer I am equally frustrated and feel cheated.Safeway needs to fix their own stores before merging with Kroger. A merger I am dead set against. The only stores around me are Safeway, QFC, and Fred Meyer. This merger will create a monopoly. A monopoly that will likely end up creating lifeless stores with even higher prices for their greedy shareholders to record ever increasing record profits. Take 2021 for example. The astronomical price increases resulted in an increase in profits for the year by over 16%. My food bill has more than doubled and their staff count has fallen while they take home new record profits.NO MERGER!!!!! Call Bob Furgeson and your district, county, and state representatives to voice your concerns of this monopoly merger.

Probably the nicest safeway in a fifteen mile radius. Go out of your way to shop it!

Big store, so able to find all the items I am looking for. But Safeway does not carry all the brands I like to use.

It's a Safeway. Feels more upscale that other Safeway's I've visited in the area.

Found staff to be quite unhelpful. Location seems to be short staffed. Customer service closed at random.

This review is for the pharmacy at the downtown Bothell Safeway. It's hard to tell if the pharmacists and technicians hate their job or their customers more. They are there to provide care and service to people who need medication, and the best personal treatment you can hope for is ambivolence or indifference. But mostly you will feel unwelcome and like you are an inconvenience to whatever they think they should be doing instead of helping a customer.

This store is smaller than most Safeways. Friendly, convivial, has a good Starbucks, prices are comparable, specials are good.
