This is probably the worst Safeway I’ve ever had to deal with. Which is sad because it’s the only grocery store in our tiny town. The managers treat everyone like crap, including their own employees and the employees follow in the managers foot steps (there’s like 2 legit employees here and that’s it) I’ve heard managers talking bad about their employees to other employees and accusing them of stealing. I’ve been accused of stealing myself from an employee who was standing one foot away from me, watching me the entire time while I was checking out with my kids. She stood as close to me as my husband would, which was very disturbing. No matter how many times I asked for her to please not stand so close to me as it makes me uncomfortable, she accused me of stealing. How can I steal when she’s 1 ft away from me the entire time? And I have my children with me? I’m definitely not one to teach my kids to do wrong in life. This place needs corporate to come in and clean up. Find better employees who actually care about our community. I literally have yet to find someone in this town that actually likes/enjoys this store. We are all just kind of forced to shop here as we have no other choice. This store has a giant monopoly over our town and it’s very unethical. This entire store is unethical.

I think being the only major grocery store in a small populated rural city is very demanding. A new store (Dollar General) recently opened. This chain is everywhere. I have not been in any of their stores seeing them in different states but because there's one locally decided to check it out. I asked what is this display for. Was told produce. It was empty. So much for that! Moving forward...This store has up and downs. The downs. The parking lot spaces are so close it seems the vehicles are kissing! Why can't they get approval from corporate to widen them. Or at least modify the parking lot to avoid having your vehicle getting damaged. Few years ago I asked for a raincheck on a $5 Friday item as it never came in. The guy supposedly in charge said don't do it with attitude. Perhaps he should have substituted it or the ad for the $5 Friday items should have indicated no rain checks or substitutions. I don't have time to read the teeny tiny print if so. Customer Service counter is ok. I usually visit that counter if I have a price issue. There's one that always correct me like I'm stupid claiming the discount was taken. Duh I told her that IS the Sale Discount but was suppose to additionally have the "For U" and sometimes when she checks (cashier) upon completion, I would briefly check my receipt for discrepancies then asked why my sale items wasn't ringing up I was told because I had to check the box off my list then why are most of my sale items ringing up correctly which wasn't the first time and btw I contacted Corporate about the "box" and that wasn't so. There was a recent issue about being charge incorrectly. While explaining to the nice lady at the CS counter and wasn't able to justify the error it turned out four staff ppl reviewing the single transaction on my receipt + two nosy ones at the counter. The same guy previously mentioned was so adamant I was wrong. I was right so ha! I should have mentioned it must be an programming error and whoever was inputting the data wasn't paying attention. Now about the ups... Few months ago I was in the flavored water aisle and couldn't reach what I wanted. I asked a staff guy if he could please get a few bottles from the top shelf (so I wouldn't have step on the bottom shelf to reach for it) and he assisted me. The next time I noticed the same items were in the lower shelf. So cool! MOF there are times i can't locate a clerk nearby for reaching stuff in the back especially heavy items for me which is often but usually I stop a tall male customer without hesitation for assistance. Sometimes I find someone in Dairy and definitely in Produce to assist me especially lifting heavy items such as cases of water. Why are the Crystal Geyser gallon containers have to be stocked on the very top shelf? Maybe I should bring my personal ladder when shopping. I think certain staff in the Meat and Produce dept are friendly and knowledgeable about their products. Their section is nicely displayed accordingly when items are fully stocked. I understand when there are OOS items due to shipping but bananas, potatoes and carrots, eggs and dairy should not be bare. I haven't tried the Deli counter yet. I wish Deli had a take out foods counter and a small sit down area for having a bite to eat. Floral is nice. Select Albertsons in Spokane have a section for eating and also select Vons in Las Vegas. None in California that I know of. I love this Safeway because when we have nice weather which is hit and miss, it only takes me 7 minutes to walk. I think as a customer first walks inside your store the clerk at the Express Checkout should multitask besides walking and standing around when not assisting their customers to briefly greet saying hi or welcome so that incoming customers feel welcomed and to have a shopping experience. So what I'm picky but there use to be years ago staff in various departments would take the time to say hello. Btw again being a cashier can be overwhelming and lack of baggers.

worst Safeway in the area. you bathroom smells like pee, most of your employees are rude. your shelf's have been empty for years. your prices are way to high, your butcher is a idiot. your slowly loosing customers. the only reason people even shop there is cause it's a small town with only one store. That's not something to be proud of, cause once there is another place your screwed.

They say masks required, but that isn't true! We were there in the afternoon and noticed there were quite a few people in there without masks. When checking out, we asked the cashier if they require masks and with an attitude she answered with "well, if they have a health condition we can't make them". Just then, a lady without a mask came into line and was crowding us, we asked her to please stay 6 feet away, especially because you don't have a mask. With that she said, I'm in a logging truck and don't have one - that surely doesn't sound like she had a health issue... she just didn't have one. Then the cashier that was next door came over and told the maskless lady to come in to her line and they continued to ridicule us because we said something about not having a mask. The cashier we were using, also started laughing at the comments made by the other cashier. This is ridiculous, if masks are required then they are required. Don't ridicule me or anyone else because we mention it. And really? You have employees that do that? I'd rather drive somewhere else to buy my groceries.

There where 4 people in the store. When asked if they still require customers to where mask the cashier stated that they do but couldn't force people with health issues. They didn't mention anything about requiring a shield. No wonder we can't get COVID 19 in control. Safeway seems to think exposing a few people to COVID is worth the profit.

No masking enforcement. I understand people who live in this area are polarized for some reason about the pandemic.... The sad thing is that they're only hurting themselves. Walking in a store like Safeway and seeing people unmasked at the peak of the pandemic is an absolute tragedy, it's a disservice that Safeway is doing to the community it is meant to support. Absolute shame on this place.

Either getting a phone app that actually gives you the prices on the app or returning to honest pricing! (honest [on-ist ] honorable in principles, intentions, and actions; upright and fair)

What a wonderful man that you have employed at Safeway in Chewelah. The mans name is Matthew, which is another good point,as that is my grandsons name. On December 16, I shopped in the store for my 98 year old Auntie. I then went to drive to her house and soon discovered, I had no money. Then calling the store, I found that Matthew, the angel had found my money,$160 in the parking lot and turned it in. A man of great integrity. Always ready go help and seems quite ambitious, a keeper. I do hope you see his qualities, as a manager. Merry Christmas and God Bless you. Charmaine Nokes

So tired of safeway not having enough employees to ring people up. So many people walked out, one employee in The fast lane and over 20 customers. Terry needs to step up and do her job and staff this store with enough employees to do their damn job and get these customers out in a timely matter. I do not know how many countless times I have went in there and what is the manager doing standing there as there is lines upon lines then she takes off and pretends she is doing something. This place is getting out of hand... staff the store
