I used to like coming to this place, but not anymore. My dad has a dog who was diagnosed with diabetes and getting his glucose levels to be low was stressful and we had to go in once a week. Every time we went in his glucose levels were high even though we were doing everything they told us to do. And every time the vet would mention euthanasia, as if there was nothing we could do. He got so ill that I decided to take him to the emergency vet: they got him stable and they said he should be fine and that euthanasia wasn’t necessary. Last friday, they told me he might have melanoma and that it might be time to say goodbye. No tests were done. They just simply assumed he had it, and before she left she said goodbye to my dad’s dog as if nothing else could be done. I decided to get a second opinion and go to the same emergency vet. They conducted x rays, and blood work, and everything came out normal!! No cancer! And his glucose levels were fine. He just needs to eat more. We literally spent $600 because they gave us false information. They didn’t even conduct any tests, so I’m wondering why they claimed he may have cancer. Hopefully I can convince my dad to change vets.

I recently had my cat go in for vaccines and neuter. About a week later my cat start to get a frim lump in one of the places he had gotten a vaccine jab. I Did a simple google search which makes me smarted then half the people that work there already. and learned that most commonly it could be a vaccine sarcoma (something not good). I urgently call the vet to ask them about it. while implying that I believe he get the lumps from them jabbing him wrong. the lady on the phone took huge offense to this she started to choke over her words and hung up on me on the spot. If you ask me that lady should not be working at vet clinic. She let anger develop and get in her way having a professional conversation. To get so insecure and rude over me implying that the vet did something wrong shows how immature she is and now the entire vet clinic has to deal with one star all because of her. One star for her being a total useless snob of an employee and. and also one star for potentially giving my cat sarcomas from not giving him vaccines in a appropriate manor. Over all unless you own a bird I would never trust that vet again!

Des Moines vet always gives us wonderful service for all 4 of our dogs. The prices are reasonable compared to alot of other vets and each and every vet, vet techs and the office crew are understanding and caring.

I took my pet rats here and now I take my cats, we always see Dr. Lee. They are helpful, reasonably priced, and when I've had urgent concerns they have always tried their best to fit me in asap.

Des Moines Veterinary Hospital has only gotten better over the years that I have been bringing my cats and now dogs here to be cared for. A hard-working staff to be cherished and honored, as they treat each call and customer with compassion and concern, along with Dr. Onorati and his knowledgeable vet techs saw my Billy, discovered his ailment, and got him back on the road to quick recovery. There is no comparison, and this team can't be beat.

A little backstory on our beloved Betta fish Ninja: we had just moved into our new apartment and were scrolling through offer up one night. We were on the hunt for some used furniture and came across this little guy. His owner was a busy person and looking to re-home him. We have owned other Bettas in the past and couldn't resist (despite already having a handful of pets ?) Months passed and we noticed a lump. It grew so big and so fast that by the time we realized.. Ninja was no longer swimming as much, every time I glanced over at his tank he was laid on his leaf bed. He seemed to breathe harder and was eating less. It was hard watching him suffer. We wanted to give him a fighting chance. It was difficult finding an aquatic vet. That's how I came across this place. Dr. Lee was AMAZING. I love that she is passionate and places equal value on all pets lives. I was laughed at over the phone when speaking to other places. I'm glad we didn't give up because Dr.Lee and the staff were able to work a miracle. She removed his tumor and quite literally changed Ninja's life. I haven't seen him move like this in a while? thanks again

Been with Dr Onorati for over 30 years. So caring and knowledgeable. I have/had exotics (Guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, lizard) and he has helped when no one else had. Saved my Pom mix after life threatening raccoon attack. He and his wife and staff are amazing.

Des Moines‘s vet came highly recommended to me, by many people I came across, when I first got my Roxie. I’m so glad I started care there years ago. They go out of their way to see many animals in a day, every day.

Although our original veterinarian (Dr. Conger) is unfortunately not at the facility any longer, I've continued care for multiple animals here. I highly recommend it! They are competent in caring for my dogs, giving a high level of care, flexible with scheduling, competitive cost, and overall the best! It's worth the extra drive for my animals to receive such quality care!!!

My sweet chicken was attacked badly by my rooster. I didn’t know if my chicken was going to make it. I called them and they said to bring her by. They took her in immediately and within 5 minutes of me walking in they had her sutured up and are keeping her overnight. Thank you for showing me and my chicken so much compassion.
