“This meal was so good, I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to scream or cry. From to start to finish, Kingfish truly blew me away with every dish. Not only was the food on point but the servers were all lovely, the music brought good vibes and the view of the water was stunning. Every dish had a special touch or twist that surprised and entranced me — like pairing coconut milk beautifully with the seasonal salmon, or chipotle pepper sauce bringing their grit fries to a whole other level. As my first bite, the texture of the grit fries with its near perfect combination of crunchy outside and smooth buttery inside told me I was in for a treat. The way the chef straddled delightful creativity and exquisite execution blew me away. My girlfriend started using clam shells to scoop up the bouillabaisse sauce. We had to ask for extra bread to mop up the last drops. Ending our time with the satisfying and again over-achieving bread pudding left us speechless and almost infuriated in a weird way. We will be visiting again if not planning our next trip around this stop.”

“We've been to Doe Bay a few times over the years and it's definitely one of our happy places! From the whimsical trails and scenic views at the bluff to the (slightly) bougie market and lovely hot tub, and just the overall kindness and sense of community there - it's such a sweet, unassuming paradise. We recently got the chance to introduce many of our loved ones to its low-key, down-to-earth charm, and everyone agreed. Many thanks to Shandra and Bev for your help coordinating our family event - you two were super easy to work with, even while I'm sure you were incredibly busy! And many thanks to Doe Bay for continuing to bring the magic. We'll be back soon!”
“Smallish refrigerator, free ice in the lobby, spa on the balcony and a caring and attentive staff. Truly a place to go and unwind and unplug, especially since there is no cell service if you aren't T-Mobile ;) ... Can't wait to unwind here again”
“This was a great spot for me and my friend to stay while we visited the island for a wedding! We both love animals, gardening, and nature, so this was right up our alley. We loved that the kitchen and bathroom and living space were cozy and well-appointed, plus when it got hot in the upper barn, the AC was ready to help. The two beds were perfect for each of us, and the wifi was fast since there's spotty cell service. We didn't use their TV, but there was streaming options via Roku. We also enjoyed a short tour of the property, included for those staying on property. We didn't mind the geese honks at all hours, and the occasional pig grumbles, but keep it in mind (or bring ear plugs) for sleeping. The Writer's Loft (our unit) is a converted upper barn, so the stairs are a bit steep to access the room but was okay for our ability level. I would recommend having a bag that is easy to carry by hand (not roll) for a short walk from the parking area. I managed okay with my big checked suitcase, but next time I'll be more strategic. Overall, gorgeous location and lots of love put into taking care of the animals and historic land. P.S. I think things have improved in the last decade: there was shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the bathroom, nice cozy decor and soft bedding, and more than enough dish-ware and cooking tools. Plus, an AC unit and a Roku-powered TV.”
