We paid for 30 min piano for my 5 year old once a week. If my son didn't love his teacher, I would have cancelled sooner since they are worse than your average doctor's office. Back to back lessons with other students where we never get the full 30 minutes. She also just taught out of a lesson book from Amazon so if the lesson of the week only took 10 minutes, she would end the class early. Since my son is a beginner I can teach him from this book. She should have just taught as many pages as she could fit in especially since my son understood the concepts. Not worth $140 a month at all.

I have been attending Federal Way School of Music for about nine months now. Since day one, I have been very impressed and pleased with the professional, caring staff. The assistant director Katya was great, helping me get signed up. She answered all my questions in a timely manner, really listened to my musical likes and goals and made a great recommendation to have Leon Christian as my instructor. Leon is not only my teacher but the director of FWSofM. It is my observance Leon handles all people with great care, concern, kindness and passion. Above professional in his dealings with ALL people. Leon is also a wonderful teacher. He's a master at weaving music history, theory and technique into my lessons at just the right portions that are perfect to help me learn. Leon is also very patient and brings an infectious enthusiasm to each lesson. I truly believe he wants me to succeed and enjoy the journey. Recently he had me playing lead parts on a song I really like that two weeks earlier I would have said, "No way, I'll never play that. He's giving me the tools to understand what's going on and why it works. I don't have to guess. I think I'm starting to hear it. When we are working through one song, he's actually teaching me everything to play ten songs. It's been great and far exceeded any of my initial goals and aspirations.

My son had been wanting to take Ukulele lessons for some time so I researched schools and found Leon at Federal Way School of music. Watching my son grow from a 5 year old who could barely sit still for a lesson, to a 7 year old making beautiful music has been a joy! Leon is an experienced, skilled instructor well versed at working with all age groups. His teaching style keeps young kids engaged, and he makes the challenging journey of learning how to play an instrument fun. Every week the material is fresh and new ( really, what 5 year old wants to pluck away at the same song week after week??) while somehow ( more of Leon's magic) your child just...learns! On top of the music fundamentals, I appreciate that Leon takes the time to weave in snippets of music history as well, which my son loves. Also impressive has been the transition to virtual classes. I thought for sure my child would lose interest, but somehow the opposite had happened. He's more focused and enjoys playing more than ever. Leon didn't miss a beat, and my son has continued to learn and grow. If you need a place where your child ( or you!) will receive top notch guitar/ukulele instruction from someone who is caring, patient, and passionate about teaching look no further.

The teachers at this school are rich with diversity, culture, technique, knowledge, empathy, and a genuine desire to share their love of music. I started guitar lessons here three years ago at the age of 57, thinking I would learn a few chords to play. My teacher has taught me music theory, culture, history (interesting, fantastic stuff), technique, rhythm, jazz, blues, celtic, country, rock, fingerstyle, and reading music. I am so proud and grateful for all I have learned! I would have given up if not for my teacher's care and encouragement. I have also observed the exceptional kind, patient way the teachers teach and share their passion for music with children. It is a family environment. If you want a "rich" musical education for you or your children (seniors, it's never too late to enjoy learning to play an instrument) I recommend the Federal Way Music School.

I worked as a teacher in this fine studio for over eight years. There is excellence and quality throughout the staff. The years I spent here were among the most rewarding in my entire career. Highly recommended!

The school has really good teachers in all levels and all instruments. The owner Leon is very knowledgeable, fun and has a strong passion in music and music education. He spends a lot of time in the studio to teach and makes the studio better in terms of the environment and teaching quality. I take my daughter to learn piano in the school with Miss Katya. She is great, very friendly, sweet to kids, and also hold them to do it right. I really like her style when kids building their music foundations. BTW, they also have group classes if you want to try it out and make some music friends.

My daughter started group piano in Federal Way School of Music when she was 4. It was a fun group class with 3 other same age group kids. They learned about music basic, and some piano stuff including piano playing time. My daughter liked the class and teacher. Now she has enrolled private piano class with Ms Katya. She is a great teacher. I actually found her on FB before I found this school. I really liked her teaching style combing traditional training and interest based to motivate my kid. The school has many talented teachers and the owner is very talent musician of his own and he is very friendly. I can tell that he has a passion of what he does and he loves this school and music all the way in. We love the school and teachers there!

Every Thursday evening I have my lesson with Katya and I have been with the school for piano lessons for over a year now. It is always enjoyable and I have also interacted with the other teachers at the school I really enjoy watching the small children coming to take various lessons on so many different instruments. I highly recommend the school for all the various music lessons they teach.

My daughter has learned more in 3 weeks about the guitar than she did in a few months at music and arts private lessons. Love this place!!! They come highly recommended by Federal Way Public Schools band and orchestra teachers.

I was looking for a professional, structured and kind place where my 7 year old daughter could try out piano lessons. She is timid and I needed it to be somewhere she'd be accepted just as she is and not pushed too hard. We have been more than thrilled with the school. The owner Leon is authentically one of the kindest souls on the universe. He exudes love of music and has the patience of a saint. My daughter's instructor Katya is a delight and even though we don't get much practicing in at home, Katya still is able to get her to learn and grow in her confidence of playing the piano.
