March 2024 by Tanis L.
Stopping by the WinCo Foods on Southwest Campus Drive in Federal Way in the morning on Friday 8 March 2024 (about 8:40 a.m.) and Saturday 9 March 2024 (about 9:50 a.m.), I found available parking not too far from the store entrance and exit both days as well as the aisles well stocked. Prices were clearly visible and the different sections of the store well marked and laid out. I was attending the 2024 Men's Pac-12 Conference Swimming Championships a short ways up the road and stopped by each day for something to eat before each morning session as well as snacks. One morning I went with a pre-spectating sweet of a maple frosted Bavarian cream donut as well as some strawberry filled crêpes for snacking. I enjoyed both items, eating the donut after purchase and snacking on the crêpes across both days. The second day, I went with a deli sandwich for my pre-spectating food, specifically a turkey and Swiss cheese croissant sandwich. The croissant was fluffy and flaky, turkey slightly sweet and cheese creamy. The buttery-ness of the croissant made additional condiments not really necessary (per my tastes). I also got a Cadbury creme egg for a snack, though I ended up eating it the next morning at home. Ilya Kharun had fun with gesturing bunny ears with his hands in relation to this Easter bunny egg. Both days I arrived at the self check out area to find an available station or two. I came a little later on Saturday morning and the parking lot was a little fuller, though I still made it in early enough each day that I did not encounter longer lines.

I've been shopping at this Winco for almost 10 years. Also have been buying alcohol for the same amount of time here as well. Today was my first encounter of having my CHILD ID'ed for MY champagne. My child is 14 years old. I came here for a few things; Avocados, Bacon & Mimosa stuff for myself. (As a mother we all have those days where you just need a mimosa, if you feel) I go to the self checkout where I scan all my groceries and scan the mini bottles of champagne, and wait for the clerk. She comes up, I ask if she needs my ID out to scan- she ignores me and asks my child for hers. I told her she's my kid, and the clerk said she couldn't give it to me. I asked why and she said "It's the law" WHAT LAW prevents you as a legal adult over the age of 21 to buy alcohol if your KID is present? Yeah.. no law. You can just refuse if you SUSPECT you're selling to a minor. She took the champagne, and put it behind a cashier and I checked out. Took myself to SAFEWAY and bought the same thing without my minor child being questioned, as she's a child, and it's champagne for a god damn adult. Worst service ever, and will not be returning. Hire some employees who are educated and have customer service skills! I come here every week for groceries with my kids and have never had this happen before. UPDATE: I decided to get a Costco Membership, where I'm VALUED and have ditched WinCo completely. After 10+ years of loyalty to this "employee owned" company.

Hawaii never had a WinCo so it was nice to go for the first time. Love that they're open 24/7, and all the cheap finds! If you're looking for a very convenient, low price grocery store, this might be the place for you. The parking isn't too crazy. The employees all just kind their own business but is happy to help you if you need it. It could be a little crowded sometimes but there's a reason!

Bagging your own groceries was just the last straw. Way to much stuff, not always the best prices. I went back to WinCo in Federal Way hoping I had missed something. Nope. I'll be back at Freddies, maybe Walmart. Oh by the way, almost no cell reception in store, and NO WIFI.

I was actually in the store when the security guard was shot in the chest by some drunken fool making a fuss about not being sold a bottle. It was just another day in federal way unfortunately....I am glad he is doing okay and recovered. Anyway I like driving the extra distance to this Winco because I often do grocery shopping at night. The Kent Winco closer to my house is a lot more dangerous as they have several forklifts they operate rather recklessly. I have almost been ran over a couple of times. Thats why I prefer this location. Plus its not as noisy and the bakery department has fresher items that last longer.

I was shopping there tonight. It had been quite a while so i didn't remember where the canned vegetables were so asked this little snot-nosed kid employee like 25 years or younger where they were located and he says in the produce area. Dude was a total moron.

Nice and cheap place to shop but some cashiers need customer service training. Sad how they treated a disabled veteran and told him to leave the store.

forgot to mention the staff never turns over - so they are kinda like family to those that live in Federal Way .."Winco is a great place - love the creative chewing gum mosaic in the parking lot - It changes weekly ... also I am very thankful for making so many handicapped parking places available for those poor souls who forgot their handicap parking passes - I didnt realize there were so many physically and mentally handicapped people in FedWay - especially the ones with the spring in their steps" Cant wait to sell my house .

@ WinCo Apparently your supposed to leave your infant that's in a cart outside of the customer service area because children and carts are not allowed to be next to alcohol in the customer service space. Yet the baby formula is located behind customer service. So, I was told to leave my 2 month infant in the cart outside customer service, where ya know someone could easily snag them up. Also, there's a lady two spaces in front of me with a cart huh? So where am I supposed to leave a child that I need to buy food for? What if I was carrying him? Would I need to lay him down in the floor since infants/children are not allowed in this space? Had no idea my infant child would be somehow affected by the alcohol but ya know a 50 something year old white lady is allowed to have her cart next to alcohol in the "holy land" of no infants/children or carts. Also, before making faces at me for even having my child in the cart realize some people have hidden disabilities, I have a torn rotator cuff & bulging discs in my spine and can't carry my infant for more than like 5 mins at a time when he's in his car seat. So, yes let's discriminate against women that are shopping alone & trying to buy their infant formula and let someone possibly try to snatch my child away, because they must be left outside of customer service. Took my service else where .

Winco trip today was good, I got everything I needed on my list. This store is always busy at least the times I go. I also always seem to pick the wrong lane but today it worked out. Got through quick enough, had to park kinda far away but the walk for me is good. This time I did need to go to the deli and usually a long line but I got right up and helped. There were some jerky fellow shoppers who would not wait for you to grab an item off the shelf and try to get back to your cart before plowing through to knock into you! Scary folks! Not safe and can seriously hurt someone. Thankfully I was spared today but couple young late 20 - early 30 going for this mid 50's lady (me). Anyway made it out and to my car. 3 stars because of sketchy shoppers.

Make sure to check the expiration date on the short dated items. I got some hostess donuts and went to open them only to realize it was expired several days ago.

I am here to leave bad review of bakery department of this WinCo Foods that i've been going to for 16+ yearsToday i went to buy frosted cookies I needed over 100 cookies, got 12 packages and asked a bakery department lady if they had any more. She responded "even if we do have more you aren't getting any more! I even have the right to make you put some of those back on the shelf!" way to go Woman! That's how you treat your clients. I ended up going to wallmart to buy the rest and nobody would ever say such things at Wallmart!Thank you Winco Foods-- I won't be coming back to your store ever again for frosted cookies

Winco never disappoints on price and selection. I will say the staff here do their best to keep the shelves well stocked, and also do a great job in handling busier days. I usually come here for big grocery hauls, especially cause I feel like I'm getting my money's worth for the same items they have down the street at two other grocery stores in the Federal Way/Twin Lakes area. I would recommend, and I will continue to come back. Thank you frontline staff for keeping everyone well stocked during this crazy time.

Great prices if you buy a lot of produce. Their jalapeno bagels are delicious. Just remember you have to bring cash because they don't take credit cards.
