I am SO GRATEFUL to have a branch of the Humane Society in our area! Wonderful cause, all donation based. Clean environment!

My daughter adopted a kitten. Although we had to wait 3 weeks before he was able to be ready, they let her visit him as often as she wanted. It made the wait a bit easier, and the bonding started sooner. When she wasn't there to play with him, they made every attempt to play with and socialize him as his kennel mate left before he did. When the day came to take him home, they made sure all questions were answered and told if there were any other questions just ask.

I just adopted a little pup from the Benton-Franklin Humane Society and it was a pleasant experience! Anyone wishing to adopt an actual puppy, I highly recommend adopting from here!! They do not adopt the pups out until they are altered and, while in their care, they make sure they receive all the medical care and shots that a puppy requires (few rescues do this)! My little Max (formerly Luigi) was neutered and had all parvo shots when I adopted him.
While I understand why they may do this, the only thing about the process that was mildly frustrating is that, when you call, you cannot speak to a person directly. You have to leave a message and they will get back to you. Make sure to listen to all the prompts because I’m pretty sure I missed the final voice message submission step the first time I called to place a hold on a puppy. If I had not made that mistake, I think there is a chance that I could have been first in placing a hold on the puppy I was most interested in. Living in Seattle, I couldn’t just pop over to the shelter, so initial communication required patience and hope.
That being said, the day of adoption was absolutely smooth. Everyone working there that I interacted with were extremely kind, compassionate and professional! The facility is very clean and you can see that they care for the animals, so I strongly disagree with a few reviews that say different.
This is a fabulous shelter and animal adoption place and I highly recommend them over most others I have worked with and adopted from in Washington & Oregon.

I had to give up my cat because I lost my apartment back in March and the staff here were very compassionate and even responded to my various emails leading up to my cat's eventual adoption, which surprisingly only took a couple of weeks (he was a senior kitty so I anticipated a long wait for him in the shelter).
They had even offered me aid with getting food before I made it clear that I would have to give up my cat no matter what. Thanks to the staff, the whole ordeal was not as horrible as it could have been and I highly recommend this place if you are out of options for rehoming a pet.

Tried to get a dog here but in interest of Dog, they don’t have a return policy. In other words if you take a $500 mutt home and it triggers off the red couch or the cats then in best interest of the pet, this place feels you need to keep the dog. We visited three other places all with return policies. I get feeling they are in the Biz of pets more than finding good homes for pets. I’ve gotten pets here before. Then I had to sign a form saying I wouldn’t eat the pet.
I’m sad because they had a few dogs I would have liked but I also have two cats at home. The dogs were all shipped here so they didn’t know of the dogs traits. I don’t know how they can say these pets are all owner drop offs if they lack history on them whether they were shipped from other facilities or not. This place was very upsetting and it relies on young caring volunteers to support it. The owners have clearly walked away from the pets interest to the profit interest. The volunteers should know that all the other places I talked to and visit in town do have pet return policies in the interest of the pet not for profits.

These people are so wonderful. I cannot praise them enough. Very professional, very kind, well organized, and you can feel it in the air how much they love their jobs and the love they have for the animals. They are the best.

This place is amazing! We were looking for a possible addition to our family and boy are we glad we came here! We ended up adopting a sweet girl named honeycrisp from them in the end. Just want to personally thank the staff as it was very evident they truly care for these animals. Please give this place a shot. You'll rest easy knowing they are doing right by these animals!

Kevin (aka Jason) is such a happy kitty. He loves to mess up the room. I got him yesterday and he has already made me so happy. He loves to run and jump, knead without nails, and snuggle. Just what I wanted in a cat. He started to eat and drink as well as use his litter box as soon as I brought him home. He does have some separation anxiety though which we are working on. I love him so much. Thank you BFHS for allowing him to come home with me.
