I completed everything needed to start orientation at this company and was given a start date. I was then told that my background check was under review and that I could still go to orientation since they saw it was only a 5 year old driving charge for driving without a license. I was then called back by HR where they told me that they no longer let anyone start without the review being completed and that I could no longer start until I received my copy of the background check they already had. I gave them everything they needed to complete the review. Then sent an email letting them know that I sent everything needed and if I needed to send anything else to please let me know. I then received a call from the head of HR she had an attitude from the time I answered saying to take her off speaker and that there was interference. There was none my house was silent. I took her off then she began to speak to me like I was a child explaining the four ways a background check can come back, which two people from the company already explained. When Ispoke up to let her know that I understand what she was saying and that someone already explained this to me she said she was going to end the call because I was being disrespectful. Which I was not. I asked her if she could just finish what she was saying she said no and I said that I no longer what to be apart of this community due to this type of treatment and she hung up the phone. I feel extremely disrespected and discriminated against in this hiring process. I was never given an apology or explanation of why there was so much miscommunication during this hiring process. I no longer want to work for this company and I want to warn other people of color about the discrimination and blatant disrespect I faced. I am sure this is not the first time this has happened.

My daughter went to get her fingerprints done here to be my IP. Very fast, friendly, and efficient. She was in and out within 15 min.

I was disappointed with the HR department. I was offered a job and was introduced to the clients and staff that I would be working with. After the meet and greet, I never heard from Kokua afterward, not one explanation (phone call, email, voice mail). nothing. I don't recommend this agency.

Kokua is a great and rewarding place to work! I've been a part of the team for 13+ years. Currently offering a monthly bonus thru 2021, on the job training, career advancement, benefits, 401K, PTO, and referral bonus.

I've worked for Kokua for almost 5 years and have had a lot of opportunity for professional development and personal growth. I have worked as a DSP, as a Team Leader, and now as a Coordinator. I enjoyed directly supporting our clients and helping to make each day significant for them and just love being around them. As a DSP I like the possibility for extra shifts(ie., mo money!) and getting to work with a lot of people, both clients and co-staff. This field is known for staff turnover and there is an expectation that we all chip in when there is a vacancy(or multiple vacancies, which does happen) and I appreciated being able to support my fellow staff in this way so being someone who is flexible and willing to help out is a huge plus and will make it more likely that you will enjoy your job. As a team leader I had a really supportive supervisor and couldn't ask for a better team. I loved getting to teach my team and grow my program and really had wiggle room to learn how I work best and what my team needs from me in order for them to be at their best to best support our clients! Now as a coordinator I get to do things that impact the whole agency. Being new to this role I feel that I have had a lot of support from everyone around me to become proficient and effective. Kokua as a whole really has the biggest heart and always keeps in mind the needs of their clients and staff. This is not easy work. In fact it is very hard physically, emotionally, and at times mentally. We rely a lot on each other. Kokua understands the nature of the work and is always morphing to best fit what we all need. Tbh I am very grateful to have found this place!

I went in here and I am a former employee. I tried to get my W-2 because I have moved and changed numbers and was given a very rude service . They would not give me my W-2 so now I’m choosing to go to the IRS . I am glad I left this company the office staff needs to learn to be professional.

I was a team lead for this company for 5 months. I worked long shifts to care for a client. They got threatened by this and fired me. Without talking to me first. I will not be sending anyone here nor will I recommend them. I worked 1500+ hours in a 6 month period. They just fired for no reason.

Stay away. Nightmare , staffing issues, communication sucks, loose your time sheets, pay is poor, no days off even if you have emergency in first 90 days, can't take any PTO unless you have a staff agree to cover you, never plan to even be off on time EVER
