All of the branches have rude, awful tellers. The bank manager refused to get me her boss. Said they are probably busy, and she respects their time. Basically, telling me I'm not important enough for her boss. Told me my transaction would take too long. Then told me she would let her boss know, and I would get a call back. Guess what? No call back at all! Rudest person ever, should not be a branch manager. Refused to forward my complaints or help. Looking into a new credit union to use. Would not recommend red canoe.

I will have to edit this review since I cannot comment on their reply.
Yes, Red Canoe. By all means provide your so-called documentation. You have my contact info. And I HAVE reached out regarding the errors and overdraft fees. Spent forever on the phone and got nowhere. More than once!! You talk a big game in your reply, but zero actions to back anything up. It’s merely to make you appear not at fault when you’re called out. Anyone reading this, pay close attention to how many one star reviews this place has (31/100 reviews). Better yet, read them. I wish I had before I opened accounts here again…
Original review:
I was charged an additional $300+ for my vehicle payment this month because my “deductible amounts were not within the limits”, despite having had full coverage for the entirety of the loan - and this same exact coverage. Nobody contacted me to make me aware or try to clarify. They just added CPI to the loan and refuse to make any adjustments to my account when I immediately adjusted my deductible. As soon as I can find somewhere to refinance at a decent rate, I will be doing so, as this is not the first issue I have had with this financial institution. Ridiculous fees, overdraft-happy (even when it’s their error), difficulty closing accounts, not friendly, and just overall not a good experience. I had banked here years ago and left for similar reasons. The only reason I came back was to purchase my car. I was hopeful, but if anything has changed, it’s only gotten worse. Credit Unions are supposed to be for the people. All this one wants to do is find every way feasible to take your money.

Beware of Red Canoe Credit Union – They Will Drain Your Account with Hidden Fees
I strongly advise caution when dealing with Red Canoe Credit Union, as they will take your money wherever they can. I had been banking with them for nearly 20 years, maintaining both a checking and savings account. These accounts were rarely used, primarily kept for emergencies and quick transfers within my family. I checked my balance a few times a year to ensure everything was in order. However, I recently discovered that my funds had been almost entirely depleted over the past few months due to so-called “inactive fees.”
When I visited this branch in person, I was essentially dismissed and told that the fees could not be reversed because they had “already been reported.” I questioned them about these charges, as my account had been largely dormant for years without issue. Initially, they claimed these fees had always existed—which was untrue. After further discussion, they admitted that these fees were introduced around 2021. At no point was I informed of this policy change, nor did I agree to any such fees.
When I pointed out that my account had seen no transactions in five years, I asked why I was suddenly being charged now. Their response? “We don’t know.” I then asked how to prevent my account from being considered inactive. First, they said the fees begin after six months of no transactions. Then they changed their answer to one year. When I asked how to keep the account active, they told me that simply logging into the mobile app would suffice. However, when I explained that I log in every 4 to 5 months, they backtracked and said, “Oh… then I guess you need to make at least a $1 transaction.”
Their justification for these fees? “This is how we stay in business.” So essentially, they are openly admitting to taking customers’ money under the guise of inactivity fees. They also claimed that if they didn’t take the money, it would become unclaimed property—which means that instead of allowing me to reclaim my own funds through the state, they pocket the money themselves.
The worst part is the complete lack of transparency. I asked why I never received notice about these fees or the deductions from my account. They insisted they always send a notice beforehand. However, I never received any letters, and I would never have let them take my money had I been informed. When they checked my account, they saw I was not signed up for e-statements, meaning any notices should have been mailed to me. Instead of acknowledging their failure, they subtly accused me of lying about not receiving the notices.
Let me be clear—Red Canoe Credit Union is NOT a trustworthy financial institution. They are a business prioritizing their bottom line over their customers, and in my experience, they engage in deceptive and fraudulent practices. By contrast, Fibre Federal Credit Union does not impose these predatory fees and allows my account to remain dormant without penalty.
I have since closed my Red Canoe accounts and will never bank with them again. My family is also in the process of closing their accounts. Additionally, I have filed a complaint with the National Credit Union Administration in the hope of resolving this matter. I made the mistake of trusting a financial institution with my money, only to have them exploit that trust for profit.
Avoid Red Canoe Credit Union at all costs.

I was sent a letter informing me of an inactivity fee that would begin on an account. I called to cancel the account but the wait lines were extremely long. I opted to have them call back. Later, when they did, the CS agent asked for my account number which I did not have, as I was by this time traveling and on my cell. She said she needed my SS number and had no other way to look my account up. I told her I was uncomfortable giving her that number but against my better judgement I did. She then began asking me to verify other data such as date of birth, address etc., which had to already exist in my file. I am hoping my data has not been compromised... Our experience with Red Canou has not been good and this is not just sour grapes... Our credit rating is and has been excellent. Very disapointed with their customer service.
We had a car loan with Red Canou, which we paid off long ago. We would strongly recomend going somewhere else.

Red Canoe Credit Union improperly marked my account as delinquent without contacting me appropriately. This delinquency was resolved immediately upon my awareness of the issue. However, despite resolving the matter, the credit union has refused to remove the delinquency note from my credit report.
This action has caused my credit score to drop by nearly 100 points. This could severely impact my ability to support my wife’s immigration process and the birth of my child, as the hospital may perform a credit check on me.
My family has been with Red Canoe Credit Union since 1989. Being facetious seems to be their way of handling customer service.
*Edit - Response to Red Canoe's response:
It’s clear that Red Canoe Credit Union does not genuinely care about its members. Their response to my review is nothing more than an empty attempt to appear sympathetic. Let me set the record straight: a simple phone call when the issue first arose could have prevented all of this. Instead, their lack of communication has caused unnecessary stress and financial hardship for my family.
The severity of a delinquency note on a credit report cannot be overstated—it has a lasting impact for 7 years and can affect everything from securing housing to medical care for my family. And let’s not forget, this all stemmed from $84. When I finally became aware of the issue and called them, it took less than 5 minutes for them to withdraw the funds directly from my account with them. Yet they refuse to remove the delinquency from my credit report.
I understand the laws they have to follow regarding accurate reporting, but it is beyond frustrating that they would prioritize rigid policies over basic communication and member care. A single phone call could have resolved this before it ever escalated. Instead, their negligence has put my family in a difficult situation during a critical time in our lives.
It’s hard not to feel like I’m on a 7-year war path to hold this company accountable for how they treat their members. If this is how they handle long-time customers, it makes you wonder how little they truly value anyone who trusts them with their finances.

The bank teller was wonderful at helping us withdraw money. She told us to ask employee B for the bathroom key. While waiting for B to finish a conversation with a friend and ignoring our attempts at asking, employee C started to get very annoyed. She raised her voice at us in frustration for not asking her our questions. Of course she couldnt help because she did not have the key and we were not told to talk to her. She yelled at us and wasted both her own time and ours. I feel that there is a major lack in staff training here

I used to praise Red Canoe CU and after just about 18 years of business with them with a business and personal account I was forced to shut down my business account because of their greed. They started taking money out of my account because I didn't have a certain balance. I have seen things deteriorate over the last 5 years and it's upsetting especially because I've been with them for so long!!!

I have to close the account due to a very poor customer service. Somehow in 10 years I was not able to establish a good relationship and trust. Manager and staff on Allen street branch should have a proper coaching in communication and customer relations. They have no clue how to provide a quality customer service and establish positive customer relationship. I should not be facing unprofessionalism and treated with disrespect in a bank facility.

Been a member of several credit unions over the years, mostly in California. The absolute worst part of my move to WA was choosing this CU. Worse than Chase bank or BofA in my opinion.
