About The Merk
The Merk, also known as the Columbia River Mercantile Building, is a historic and well-maintained building in downtown Longview. Built in 1923 as the first commercial structure in the area, it served as the headquarters and company store for the Long-Bell Lumber Company. Restored in 1992, the three-story building now offers over 70,000 square feet of space with modern amenities like a HVAC system, Pandora sound system, and a glass-walled Otis elevator. The building features original suites, spacious ADA-accessible restrooms, and full electrical and plumbing systems. The Merk hosts a variety of small businesses, including artisan coffee shops, leather makers, hairdressers, a plant shop, bakery, restaurant, tattoo shop, candy store, and bookstore, creating a lively and family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors enjoy the friendly staff, murals, photo opportunities, and community quad area with tables. The Merk is a must-visit spot for shopping, dining, and exploring unique local shops on Commerce Street.
