I recently stayed at the Freestone Inn and, unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected. Upon arriving at our cabin, we were taken aback by its cleanliness—it was dirty and not well-maintained. It’s disheartening to pay for accommodation and find such a lack of attention to detail.
Additionally, the customer service we encountered was disappointing. The employees were rude and unhelpful, which only added to our frustration. We also faced an unexpected "excessive cleaning fee" that was charged to us without any prior notification or explanation. We were only communicated this until we noticed on our van statement and called. We had to request a checkout bill to see “excessive cleaning fee”. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and left us feeling taken advantage of.
Overall, I cannot recommend the Freestone Inn based on my experience. It's unfortunate, as we had high hopes for a lovely stay, but the dirty cabin and terrible customer service overshadowed everything.

Wonderful setting for my son's late September wedding. The rooms had fireplaces and the views over the lake were amazing. Beds were comfortable. Very enjoyable stay. For breakfast we went into Mazama to the bakery. Perfect!

I am conflicted. The property is beautiful and well maintained at appearance. There is a beautiful lake and a nice hot tub that is actually HOT! We stayed in room number 12, which was a rather large room with a wraparound balcony. The views outside are gorgeous. I actually appreciated the quiet. The reception is terrible. So, don’t expect to get much done using the internet/ WiFi. Although, It forces you to be present which I appreciated very much. There are a lot of bees here so prepare yourself.
Ok, now my gripes:
The bed was one of the worst beds I’ve ever slept on. Myself and my partner prefer a firm bed. The bed was really soft. There wasn’t much support whatsoever. The first night we got a good nights rest, even though the pillows were bulky and hard - We eventually threw them on the floor and slept with nothing. The second night we tossed and turned all night - both waking up grumpy, achey and tired. I was thankful we were not planning to sleep another night here.
The shower was awful. We had to turn on the bathtub and lavatory faucets, along with the shower to get hot water. We probably wasted 10 gallons of water, which felt very wasteful. The water pressure in the shower was seriously lacking. I think it took me 30 minutes of being in the shower to get all the sunblock off from being out on the lake. My partner who takes 5 minute showers, took 20 minutes. The water from the showerhead was hot and uncomfortable and very little water coming out. If you try to turn the cold water on, even just a little bit, everything gets cold.
This place could be so much more incredible for the reasons above. Such a bummer if you ask me.
Owners of the property: The place has so much potential. Can you please invest in good quality beds and do something about the water pressure? So many gallons of water was wasted. It shouldn’t take 5-minutes to run water to get hot water.

Beautiful resort! Clean rooms, very private feel. The only 2 things I'd change: the coffee was... not good, like at all. Abs I wish the restaurant on site was open. As it was, we had to drive all the way to Winthrop for a snack because the Mazama store was closed.

Our wedding at the Freestone Inn was perfect. The venue is beautiful. Our guests loved it. We chose to hire Rich with Love Events for our day of coordination and we are so thankful we did. Jaime and Becky made our day run so smoothly that we felt like we didn’t have anything to worry about. They handled everything from small details to huge issues (like finding us a backup officiant at the very last minute) with ease. They made sure our wedding was absolutely amazing. They’re great at what they do and we can’t recommend them enough.

My husband and I came across freestone looking for someone close to the northern cascades for a few nights away to go hiking and visiting the park. We were there during the beginning of the week, so not a busy time and the restaurants and bar weren’t open which was fine, I just can’t comment on those amenities. Check in and out was easy. My husband and I kept saying this felt like a
Hidden gem. Such a beautiful lodge, great views, even little hikes and a creek on the property. Loved having a hot tub on the property to relax away the soreness from hiking.

Super good location for hiking. You have trails right in your backyard if you want and there is a pool with a hot tub near you.
Rooms: Clean and what you expect for a cabin
Nearby activities: Hiking and some good food in towns nearby
Safety: Super safe good area

If you're looking for a place that is off the grid with beautiful views and excellent service, then this is your place. The Wi-Fi is very sketchy and when it works it's as good as dial up. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms are a little bit dated but they were clean, the beds were comfortable and seem to have every amenity that one would need. I attended a destination wedding there and they were very helpful. Food was good as well as their service. The views are spectacular. They even have a nice pond that you can walk around. Lots of trails leave from the area, so if you're into hiking you will be pleased. There's not much near there so if you need something it's going to be a drive. I recommend coming well prepared.
Rooms: Very well appointed rooms.
Walkability: Lots of great trails that leave from this area.

I thought this place was great. Was quiet, secluded, not a big crowd so almost no competition for the hot tub or chairs or anything. The view was spectacular. I even got to see the northern lights for the first time. Rooms were clean and plenty of linens to go around. We were there for a wedding.
Nearby activities: There's a store/Cafe bakery down the road a couple miles that bakes fresh bread in the morning that was glorious!
Walkability: There is a small lake on the premises with a trail all the way around. The lake is full of fish jumping in the morning and evening.
Noteworthy details: They have private cabins too.

This is a beautiful lodge located in a beautiful valley. Unfortunately, the lady at the front desk, Glenette, was incredibly rude.My family and I (my fiance, my parents, and my mother in law) booked a stay for the weekend to get a tour of the location for a possible wedding destination. When we first pulled up it met all my expectations, even though it was raining, it was a beautiful location. We were immediately met with hostility upon entering the lodge because we brought a little 30-pound dog. When we booked our stay and when we met Becky at the Seattle wedding show we were very clear about our dog, that he would be attending the weekend stay and we wanted him to be apart of our ceremony, that wasnt a problem we were arrived at check in. Without even a hello, we were told to get our dog out of the lodge, which followed by almost an hour long rant about dogs not being allowed in the lodge under any circumstances. When we booked our stay they booked us for 3 rooms in the lodge, after we told them about our dog. Upon arrival, our dog wasn't even on the list. So we had the split our group up, my parents and mother in law got to stay in the lodge while my fiance and I were kicked out to one of the cabins. After our check in she didn't even show us, or point which directions our rooms were in, we ended up walking laps around the lodge until we were able to find our rooms. Finally Glenette stopped us out of nowhere to "show us around the lodge." During our stay, it was incredibly quiet, we were the only guests there the second night, and every time we walked through the office, Glenette refused to even look up from what she was doing to greet us. I really wish this wasn't the case, but because of our experience this last weekend during "mud season" we will not be returning to this lodge. After speaking to locals around Mazama and Winthrop, it sounds like they have all had similar experiences in regards to promises being made without being fulfilled.

Came here for a wedding. Spent the weekend in a cabin with one of my friends. We had a blast. Went to the bar down the road the night before the wedding. Had fun there. The wedding was done at the lodge and it was beautiful. Cold because it was outdoors, but they hooked them up with a cover and outdoor heaters. The cabin we stayed in was very clean and had games and cable. We were right off the river, too. You could stand on the back deck and listen to the water run. Pet and kid friendly. Very romantic place for a wedding or weekend away with your partner.

This would have been our 7th stay with Freestone. It’s a place we’ve loved coming for years, though for the last few it has been noticeable that they are struggling with staffing just as their website now notes.Yesterday I called about an upcoming stay (14 days from now) and our ability to cancel because my nephew has been in the hospital and yesterday was life flighted to a hospital that specializes in his care. I had called with the same concern a week ago, and was told I still had time to cancel although looking back, I didn’t share that our booking was over NYE, and they didn’t ask. During this part of the conversation, the person I spoke to told me it was a lie that I called because it wasn’t in their notes, and it was a lie that I was told I had more time to consider the reservation. This was bad enough, but it got worse.I told the person I was speaking to that the details around cancellation left me feeling misguided, both as a result of the phone call I’d had previously, and the email I received. While freestone notes that they celebrate specific holidays, and for those 30-day notice is required, Freestone has no facilities open on NYE including restaurants and so it’s surprising that they consider this a holiday they acknowledge. The person I spoke to said she did not care about my confusion and said I’d signed their agreement, which is what she did care about. I was still speaking when she ended the call, and what I was saying is that we’d obviously keep the reservation if our only options were no refund or come. We also considered sending friends. I called back twice and she did not answer, however when my husband called from a different number she answered immediately. He clarified our intentions with her but said he also still wished to speak with a manager. She told him the manager would be in today, Monday 12/18.Last night I received a note that Freestone had cancelled our reservation and was charging us the full stay. My husband called again today and we were told the manager will now not be in until tomorrow. We likely won’t be back in time for our reservation as my nephew will still be in the hospital, and if that comes to be we’d planned to send friends as a gift. I’ve never been treated this way as a paying customer anywhere, and as we’ve recommended so many friends to freestone over the years it’s painful to write this: don’t stay here. They can’t afford staff or to make up for their own mistakes, and you will be out money or the good vibes you came for if you interact with the person I did.Mazama Inn, Basecamp, and Sun Mountain Lodge are other places we’ve stayed and are filled with caring and accurate staff.

Started coming to the Freestone a month or two after it first opened in 1996. Our son was with us and was 2 months old. He is now 27. We love this place. It can be a challenge to operate as far off the grid as the Freestone, but this is a special place. I call in a Teddy Roosevelt style lodge out of another era. So peaceful. Some of the most incredible scenery in North America is right up the road at the Washington Pass overlook. Fall foliage in the Methow is something else. On the one hand I’d like to keep the Freestone to myself and my family. On the other hand, I want people to know about it and pay a visit and keep this marvelous place going for future families and travelers.Rooms: The rooms on the second floor of the inn have vaulted ceilings and each room has a large stone fireplace. Super quiet. Wash away the stress of your other life within about a half hour of your arrival.Love sitting on the deck outside my room reading and enjoying the view.Walkability: Wonderful walking trail to Mazama Country Store. So picturesque.
