Thank you so much for such a sweet little hotel 🥰. This is the perfect place to stop when I realize that I cannot drive all the way back home from clam digging. And it’s so quiet it’s so cute And the perfect place to Hideaway for the night

McCleary Hotel
The first thing I noticed about this place was its beauty and the genuine care that Matthew and Lorien have put into preserving it. You can feel that this restoration is being done the right way—not as a trend, but out of respect for the history and craftsmanship of the building. It’s clear they are motivated by a real desire to keep something special alive.
The rooms are unique and thoughtfully maintained, with an interesting energy that makes the space feel inspiring rather than generic. Matthew gives a great tour, and from time to time you can hear work being done around the building—but that’s exactly what you would expect from people who are actively improving and restoring a historic place. It never felt disruptive, only purposeful.
Staying here gave me the chance to truly tap into my creative edge. It felt like an escape from the usual pressures of life—a place where imagination and reflection come naturally. The bedding was very comfortable. The hot water takes a moment to get going, but once it does, it gets very hot, and relaxing in a bubble bath in a claw-foot tub was a highlight. Candles aren’t allowed due to fire code, but a battery-powered, multi-color mood light worked just as well.
I genuinely appreciate the opportunity to have stayed here. It’s comforting to know that whenever I’m in this area, I have a beautiful place to retreat to—one that feels meaningful and rooted in something good. Thank you to Matthew and Lorien for the work you’re doing and for building your dream. If you’re considering staying here, I encourage Xmas you to follow through—you’ll understand what I mean once you experience it.

Very cute and quaint well done modernized vintage hotel. One of a kind, awesome experience. The owners were on site and were very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this place to all my friends for sure. In a great location and a very short commute to Olympia.

This place is awesome. It’s simple, cozy, historic, and a real gem of a place in McCleary. The service was exceptional and the stay special. It’s quiet and brings you back to a simpler time that felt charming. The building itself was amazing and the downstairs lobby and fireplace lounge area was great. Our room was rustic in a cool sort of way and the bed was very comfy.
In conclusion, it really brings you back to a simpler, cozier, and more unique time, and my wife and I loved it. We will definitely be back one day.

I attended my family’s 50th Wedding Anniversary at the McCleary Hotel. They renewed their vows after 50 years and this was the perfect venue for the occasion of approximately 30 guests. Lorena and Matthew, the new owners, were very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are cozy and beautifully decorated. There’s so much history and Lorena and Matthew were happy to share.

In a world where history is given a glossy refinish, the faults filled in and the relics of the past bulldozed in favor of a gaping gravel lot or an all-white-retelling; it warms my cold little heart to see a historic building given as much attention and care as it received upon conception. The current owners are doing a fantastic job restoring and preserving the antique hotel all the while planning its bright future. I’m so exited to see and hear what is in store for the building.
