I wish I didn’t take my block here but I did and now i’m paying for my mistake. Took my block to wash it to this shop. They told me I need new piston heads and rings. Then my heads needed rebuild so I was like I trust them they’re professionals. I pick up all the parts got home started looking at them and piston heads have multiple dents in them as if they were dropped. They replaced those with new ones and said just make sure they don’t wobble when installing them. They didn’t so I put the block together starting the car and it smokes. Seems like the rings they gave me were not gapped properly which was their responsibility. Now I spent almost $2k in that shop and of course no one will take responsibility

Sunwest doesn’t take responsibility for their mistakes. Customer service and quality are sub par.Got a 22re from sunwest about 60,000 miles ago. Metal backed timing chain guide broke damaging the top end. Kind of a random failure can’t exactly blame anyone so I figured I’d give them another chance.Send it in to sunwest to be rebuilt again. Got the engine back, was installed by a reputable shop but unfortunately received a faulty engine. (Bad rod knock from loose pin on rocker arm, so truck never left the shop) They tell me on the phone at that time they will cover the cost of removal and reinstall under warranty.Turns out their warranty won’t cover the cost and I’m responsible for half of the cost of a bad product. They said even if I had the work done in their own shop they’d charge extra labor for their mistakes. Thankfully Pat told me on the phone this is a “lesson for them, now our sim tester will know to double check that before they are sent out.”Thanks sunwest for making me pay thousands to teach you guys a lesson.I’m sure this doesn’t happen often but they showed service poor customer service and were very quick to get defensive over the phone. Go somewhere else where they take pride in their work, it’s worth the wait.

I brought in a core 2.5 and sold to them, they have to inspect then say that they will send a check. I've called several times to see where it's at and if they have sent my check out yet. It has been over a month and still nothing.

I ordered a 5vzfe 3.4 long block from sunwest for my 1998 Tacoma. The communication from the start was great and customer service is exceptional with this company. Very easy to work with. Price is very good for the thorough job they did. They sent me progress pictures and a video of my remanned engine on the test stand. I had a local mechanic do the install and he also mentioned how great their work and instructions were. I am driving my pickup with its new engine now and it runs phenomenally. It’s still in break in period and I will update this review as time goes on and I have more miles on it. Rob and his team are exceptional and I highly recommend anyone looking for a remanned engine option to check these guys out!

I live on the east coast. I decided to take a chance and ship my heads all the way to Washington, to be rebuilt. I decided to go with the rally heads, hoping for some life back in the car. I was shocked!!! I was amazed!! I was, to say the least, happy as a clam! Got some fun back in my fozzie. Couldn't be a happier person about the chance I took. If you're on the edge, do it!!! Even local guys can't beat these prices for what you get!!! No complaints whatsoever. Excellent communication throughout. Will definitely be a repeat customer!!

Owning a Impreza 2.5rs can be hard enough, let alone finding someone who builds engines for them. Coming from Illinois, I did have closer options, however I went with Sunwest for a reason. Sunwest has out done themselves and really makes an effort to keep cars like mine on the road. Customer service is outstanding, their techs super helpful, their quality of work is exceptional and beautiful. To say that I am happy is an understatement. Cheers to the Sunwest Team. Ya'll are amazing

Well they built my motor about 5 years ago. They ended up using brass plugs in my 4g63t. I don’t even have 30k on the engine and 2 popped out. Now I’m replacing them with oem freeze plugs in the car. And research shows you can’t use brass plugs in higher Hp 4g63t. Block flex is real. Motors still strong though. Would definitely go back. Just wish they knew.

February 2022 I had my 22re rebuilt with Supreme package. I choose this company because they only do toyota,Subaru engine's. Everyone said how great there work is. And my truck ran great I did all the recommended things oil change at 500 w/zinc additive change oil every other month ectopic. (I have a shop do all my work). Then 2 weeks ago I'm going to work and I smell something burning I figured it was the car in front of me. Then from nowhere I get a huge puff of smoke from under the dash,I immediately pull off the road and look ,nothing. As I look up towards the street, hood there's so much smoke rolling out of my engine compartment. I open the hood expecting a fire but no so I restart the truck and notice oil from exhaust manifold. I had it towed home $230 then towed it to my mechanic shop they are thinking it's a valve seal or something like that. Sunwest only warranty the parts so I'll be shelling out another 1000+$to fix this. The whole purpose of this having a "professional do the work is so that doesn't happen. I'm very passed about this I think sunwest should either pay my shop bill or fix it themselves that's never going to happen so thanks sunwest ,I should have done it I guess. I'm just retarded I recon. mad ashellted

I purchased a 5VZ-FE engine for my 3rd Gen 4Runner from Sunwest. I chose them over others because they had the heads already placed on the long block so I did not have to go through the hassle of dealing with putting them on. At first, everything was going great. I loved the product I received and it was beautifully done. Once I got the engine up and running, it was having an overheating issue. So what did I do? I replaced the thermostat, Then I had to replace my brand new radiator because it blew that apart. I went through three thermostats and of course went OEM. I contacted Sunwest and told them everything I had going on and the fact that it ran great without a thermostat installed. I told them the only thing else it could be were the head gaskets were placed on backwards. They assured me this was not possible in any way. After attempting numerous times to figure out what was going on, I caved and I needed to get it into a shop. I contacted Sunwest again and said it is going to go into the shop because I believe the head gaskets were backwards and if that was in fact true, they were going to be paying the bill. They said they would send me all the parts but the warrantee would be voided if the heads were removed. They also stated that I could take the entire engine out and send it back to them so they could do the work. There was no way I was taking the entire motor out again to make their lives easier. I wanted my 4runner running again so I went with the shop. I at this point was dealing with Kurtis and he was an awesome individual to work with and showed empathy to the entire situation.About 3 hours into the shop, they found that the head gaskets were indeed on the wrong sides. I contacted Sunwest and sent them pictures. They said they would pay $50/hr (which was for warrantee work) for book time which was 10-11hrs. Meaning they would only give me $550 for a job that cost me over $2k. And mind you.... This is 100% their fault. They apparently haven't updated their warrantee work labor costs since it has increased all around.I then talked to the owner, Leroy or Roy, something of that matter. He said it's truly sad that I went through that but I was lucky that I was even getting the $550 because I did the motor install as the owner. He said "It's a really fucked situation, but sorry" because all they could do is pay for warrantee work, according to their warrantee. I told him that in no way would it pay for even 25% of the bill. I told him that he either needs to cover it or he will see me in court. He said "Take me to court, we will not lose and haven't lost". Which goes to show that they have put out bad products and bad customer service numerous times. All I wanted was to get my engine fixed and get the funds recouped for what I had to spend. And no, I have not taken them to court because my time is more valuable than dealing with sleazy people who will not go above and beyond to make customers happy in the end.Either way, I will never use this company ever again, nor would I recommend anyone using them because they will ultimately screw the customer over, especially if it is their own fault.

I bought a long block for my NA outback to replace my very tired and leaking-at-every-seal engine. Lead time was around 3 weeks and then engine arrive well packaged via freight. I was able to do the swap myself and Sunwest was fast to answer an emailed question I had (and I was even given a cell# in case I needed more follow up). The only hiccup I had was I received the wrong PCV connection style, but I worked around it. Sunwest returned my core charge in about a month, too.I'm very happy with the engine so far. A little over a month and 2000mi in, she's running great. I totally recommend them!

Purchase a 4Runner from a friend of mine and it came with a sunwest super sport 22RE that he had purchased 9 months earlier. I perform the engine swap and contacted sunwest. They assured me that I would get the full core refund as long as there wasn't a window in the block or any major damage (The engine was running when I pulled it out It just had a scored cylinder wall and bad rings). After having the core trucked from Vancouver Washington up to medical lake they refused my core refund citing that I had taken too long to return it to them. Now a year later and almost 20,000 mi on the engine I just blew a head gasket. I messaged them and they did not respond. I would use caution when dealing with this vendor

Had an ej255 built with hybrid pistons. Went through the proper breaking, was easy as I could be and after about 5k miles it developed a rod knock. Emailed multiple times about a warranty but no response. Around 3k for a shortblock down the drain. If you are looking for a Subaru block look else where
