Little Mountain Park is a large, beautiful park located just five minutes from downtown Mount Vernon. It covers 522 acres of forested land and offers over 10 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking. The trails range from easy to hard, providing options for all skill levels, and are well maintained thanks to local volunteers. The park features two scenic viewpoints at the 934-foot summit, which can be reached by a 1.5-mile paved road or a shorter trail. From these viewpoints, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the lower Skagit Valley, Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, and the Olympic Range, especially on clear days. There are parking and facilities at both the bottom and the top of the park, including a port-a-potty halfway up the trail. The park is dog-friendly and offers a variety of trail options, including shaded areas and nature walk trails. Visitors can also explore a bridge lookout that faces north, overlooking Mount Vernon and beyond. The trails are open from 6:00 AM until midnight, with road access to the summit available from 10:00 AM until dusk.
