“Today, we were finally able to visit Splash Gallery of Olympia. Robbi was very helpful and showed us many beautiful pieces of jewelry and other amazing art pieces. I loved her sea glass pieces of jewelry and mobiles and I'm hoping the next time we visit we will be able to buy a mobile. My husband did surprise me and bought a piece of pottery I was admiring. The artist used embossed clay on the body of the piece and carried the pattern to the foot. Very unique! Loved that so much. Thank you, Robbi, for sharing some of your life-long endeavors and how you gather the sea glass on the island Marie-Galante you use in your art. What an amazing creative life you lead. “I brought my challenging project to this independent shop at the corner of Franklin and Fifth Avenue and the result exceeded my expectations. It is a mounted bronze artwork that my dad bought from the artist, Giovanni Schoeman, or perhaps an assistant, on a London street in 1970, and it has been in the family since. (Growing up, it scared my little brother because he thought the bronze people had been “burned,” and I always wondered, as a young girl, where the bronze people came from and where they were going. It could have an apocalyptic or even zombie interpretation. Also, a version of the same artwork can spotted on an office wall in the Mad Men TV series.) Fast-forward 56 years, and the 44-by-24-inch artwork had seen better times. It sat on a closet floor for 11 years after the hanger broke. I even tried to sell it a couple of times, but fortunately failed. Enter Art House Designs! I live downtown and wanted to support a local business. I picked out the frame and red fabric matte. The Art House owner, Susie, said the whole family worked on it. The heavy bronze piece was cleaned and reattached. The frame was meticulously crafted. A very sturdy hanger was firmly attached. An envelope containing the original art label was taped on the back. I could not believe my eyes when I went to pick it up. Their expert restoration has revived the piece, and the bronze people are once again proudly on display and strolling off to their mysterious destination. The shop can be a bit chaotic if there are multiple customers. Be patient, or browse through the array of pieces on display. You won’t be disappointed in their work. Thank you, Art House Designs!
