I find Pariyatti, the Vipassana movement and many other trends (like “Mindfulness”), very focused on spreading Theravada Buddhism in English and Pali. And often only choice western parts of the whole teaching. How about the rest of the world? A well known Uni in the USA published a quite interesting work about the mechanisms of behavioural change. They found (to put it very briefly) that in a community - no matter how large - if only 5% of the inhabitants change their behaviour, the rest will follow. Explanations are’nt even necessary but might be a hindrance.Today there are appr 300 000 000 Buddhists world wide. That equals 2,5% of the population. Is it foolish to hope for a more peaceful world? Perhaps a little wisdom?Just a thought…

Understand that this book store is open rarely . Only for a short period after a Vipassana course at the Northwest Vipassana Center will the open sign be in place . There are many interesting books regarding Mr. Goenka and Meditation , most are for sale, a few are free with a donation accepted . It does have a large selection of books and CD's. It's definitely a worthwhile stop after your course .

Pariyatti has a lot of excellent publications and the store out here in Onalaska, WA showcases them beautifully. They open this store especially for the last day of each 10 day retreat at Dhamma Kunja with their entire selection showcasing Dhamma books. Ryan even donates lots of his time serving at the retreats and I had the honor of working one with him down in the Portland area. Stop in when they're open as they are always very inviting and sometimes they even have a donation only table.
