What a fun place. It’s an old building that has its quirks, but nothing to diminish its rating. We stayed in the Commander Suite and if you like views, light and plenty of cross ventilation this room is perfect. You get a clear view of the water and all the boating activity. You also get the wonderful sounds of the waterfront. You can walk 30 steps to the water if you just want to play in it. Breakfast was delicious. Also, you are in easy walking distance to some great restaurants and shopping. But you are not on the noisy downtown streets. We’ll go again.

The pictures do not do this place justice. It is quite literally a few steps from the beach.

We just left the Commander’s Beach House this morning after the most delicious breakfast. It was such a wonderful stay for us. Natalie was so kind and so thoughtful, and made really scrumptious breakfasts for us both mornings we were there.
The room we stayed in had a king bed and then there was a small room off of our room that contained a twin bed, which was perfect for our daughter. The rooms were clean, the beds were just right, and the water pressure in the shower was on point. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast if you ever find yourself in Port Townsend. Staying there was just perfect.

5 stars all around. If you're considering a stay in Port Townsend right on the beach and love to hear the waves crashing on the beach, this is your place! Natalie and Dave are great hosts and breakfast is delicious. We especially enjoyed sitting outside eating breakfast and taking in the scenery. Natalie always had local recommendations for what to do in town, which really helped us have a more local experience. Also I cannot give enough stars for cleanliness. I'm the person who wipes everything down multiple times and here, I didn't have to do that. I felt immediately comfortable in the Lighthouse Suite. It was clean, open, airy, and completely inviting. We had a lovely bed, a sitting area and a private bathroom. In our opinion it was the best room to stay in! Highly recommend.
Rooms: There are 4 rooms at the top of the stairs. The Lighthouse Suite has a private bathroom, bedroom and separate sitting area. I think the other rooms have different bathroom configurations. The Lighthouse Suite has amazing sea and lighthouse views.
Nearby activities: Local day sailing charter: Left Coast Charters
Local day spa: Soak for a salt water soak and relaxation
Local Thai restaurant: Khu Larb
Local walk around the marina
Safety: The front door remains locked as guests go in and out.
Walkability: The beach is right outside of the hotel. There are lovely gardens around the bed & breakfast too. You are also a short walk to the marina and local restaurants and sight seeing opportunities.
Food & drinks: Waters in the refrigerator are provided as is a coffee / tea bar. There is a small refrigerator to store a very small amount of things like leftovers from dinner. There are many restaurants within a short drive or walk from the bed and breakfast. Breakfast is provided each day.
Noteworthy details: Amazing decor and details. A beautiful farm house style with antique touches throughout and upgraded amenities. Stairs up to the rooms to stay in are carpeted.

Our stay at Commander's Beach House was the first weekend of November in 3 of the offered rooms (Captain's Quarters, Lighthouse Suite and The Sunflower Room) and it could not have been more relaxing and peaceful! The two suites were massive and all three rooms were appropriately themed and well appointed. Natalie and Dave are fantastic hosts; they had coffee ready every morning by 7:30a and a hot, filling breakfast on the table by 9a (even working around 2 of our family members dietary restrictions). The House is RIGHT on the water, so you're never far from the amazing sound that is the sea lapping at the shore. Washington anytime of year can be unpredictable but we were fortunate enough to have "perfect" November weather and the proximity of the beach house to the main strip of Port Townsend allowed for many walks into town for sightseeing, shopping and meals. Don't fear should the weather be less than ideal as the house is fully stocked with board games. We could not have asked for a better location, hosts or weather and it will easily be a family trip we all remember for a very a long time. I would highly recommend you staying at Commander's Beach House if it's on your shortlist, you won't be disappointed!Rooms: We stayed in 3 of the offered rooms (Captain's Quarters, Lighthouse Suite and The Sunflower Room) and it could not have been more relaxing and peaceful! The two suites were massive and all three rooms were appropriately themed and well appointed. The house is very solid so we didn't hear much outside noise with all the windows closed (though why would you pass up the opportunity to hear the waves crash all night!).Walkability: Easy 5 minute walk to Port Townsend's main street and all that has to offer.

This place is a great base for exploring historic Port Townsend. The atmosphere of this heritage house is in keeping the town’s Victorian architectural past.Natalie is a wonderful hostess. She leaves guests free to enjoy the amenities of the house. At the same she gets all the details right. The place is immaculate. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast is a demonstration of creative cuisine. For me the highlight was quietly reading a book while enjoying the views from the guests’ living room.Highly re d!

We've been going there every July for 17 years. It's getting so popular we have to book a year in advance. Jim and Gail have been wonderful hosts until three years ago when they sold it to their son and daughter-in-law. No worries, they do a great job and Jim and Gail still live in PT. One thing has changed, the food. It's better. If you plan on staying there don't book in July, that's our month.

Natalie and Dave are incredible hosts of this beautifully picturesque bed and breakfast situated right on the water over looking the bay. Downtown is an easy 5-10 min stroll. It was amazing getting to watch all the sail boats come and go from the back porch. The hash browns that we had for breakfast were hands down the best I’ve ever had. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Quiet, serene, and restful.A bonus, some rooms have a beautiful view of the lighthouse off in the distance.

Very fine, delicious breakfasts. Beautiful grounds/setting! Well-furnished/decorated rooms. Dedicated bathroom for at least our room. Any small issues that do come up are quickly remedied.

It's a lovely guest house, well within walking distance of downtown Port Townsend. The breakfast is delightful, and the rooms are comfortable and decorated with many small coastal touches. Very nice common areas too.

My husband and had a lovely time. We stayed in the Lighthouse suite, which had an amazing view of Mount Baker. The sounds of the waves, sailboats, beach walks, added to the most amazing experience. Dave and Natalie were wonderful hosts. If your lucky, Dave makes the best eggs Benedict ever. A short walk into town you will find excellent food and world class music. I highly recommend this place.

We had our Christmas party there and it is such a beautiful space. I got to see the rooms, and they are soooo gorgeous and comfy looking. The decor is beautiful and well thought out. I know the owners too, and they are EXCELLENT HUMANS! I would recommend this place to anyone! Plus, it's right on the water and the moon rises...GORGEOUS.

My husband and I just stayed here in the Captain's Quarters and it was a fantastic experience all around. When you first walk in, there is a sweet little sitting room with a book nook and a beautiful view; this little room being first adds an extra level of privacy that we loved! Through a second door is the bedroom which is incredibly spacious even with the King sized bed, dresser, several small tables, and an electric fireplace/heater. The bathroom was cozy and immaculately clean.I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the breakfast that was served. The first morning was an egg bake that made me question if I truly disliked eggs because of how amazing this egg bake was. It was followed by delicious gluten free pancakes and a sweet/salty chicken sausage. The second breakfast was just as delicious with a fruit and yogurt parfait followed by gluten free breakfast quesadilla and eggs that were just as tasty as the first breakfast.Natalie the hostess was amazingly kind, personable, and ready to have a great conversation over breakfast. She also made sure that we had any and everything we could want why we were there and made herself available to ask for anything if we needed. All around a 10/10 experience and we will be returning the next time we have a long weekend or vacation.
