We had a horrible experience with Big Valley about 1.5 years ago. Our vet moved and we saw Big Valley had been recommended by lots of people in the North Kitsap page. So I made appointments for our two dogs and one cat. They scheduled all 3 for new appointments about 4 months out because they were busy. I asked to have our older lab to have the first new patient appointment because of health concerns we had and then had to cancel the appointment with short notice due to a sick child. (Covid). I asked to bring our lab to the next appointment and reschedule the first one we cancelled to later. I was worried about our lab because she had a lump that had gotten much bigger quickly. They knew that when I scheduled the first appointment. The day before the next appointment they called with a reminder of the appointment and said it was at 10 AM and I had it written down as 3 pm. I told them that and they said it was 10 am so I explained that I couldn't bring her at 10 am. We discussed rescheduling. She said she would call me with a new appointment time. About 20 minutes later, she (receptionist) said after talking to the doctor, that they would not be rescheduling and cancelling the other appointment we had scheduled. She said I should go somewhere that could better meet our needs. And that two cancellations of new patient appointments was not ok. I explained that I was very concerned for our lab and was worried the lump might be cancer. I also apologized that we had cancelled the first appointment. I said we WOULD be there the following day at 10am instead of rescheduling. I apologized again. She said that they would not be able to serve us at all. I said even if we don't cancel the appointment that was the next day. She said yes. I was dumbfounded. I completely recognize that cancellations are not ok and the impact it has on their business. But I also know that the 2nd appointment was scheduled in the afternoon. And I even said we would rearrange our schedule to make the 10 am that they said. Thankfully, we were able to get in at a different vet quickly. They wanted to see our lab right away and did a biopsy of the lump and it came back as cancerous. It was a sarcoma and they were able to surgically remove the tumor. Her incision was about 10 inches long. They are able to remove the entire tumor and she is doing great but only because our current vet got us in quickly and responded quickly . That vet office continues to serve our animals and are amazing!

Knowledgeable, caring, and professional. The vets here are the best of the best, and I feel lucky to have found this clinic. They are quick to respond to any concerns with my dogs' health and their diagnose and treatments have always been spot on. Highly recommend!

This place has really gone downhill in the last year. Only money motivated and completely price gouge their clients. We went in for a simple ear infection and tried pushing to treat my dog with the most expensive treatment plan rather than starting out to see if basic treatment would do the trick first. We received an estimated Charging 300-600 dollars for a simple ear infectio. An appointment that was only to be made based off the estimate. Didn't move forward with appointment due to priced estimate and they continued to charge me 75 for a missed appointmentAND charged my card without Authorization. Not to mention the turn over of vets that come and go. We used to have a solid practioner every time. We never see the same vet anymore. Different person every time.We used to think this place was the best around. We had the sense they cared and we belonged to a something special. Not sure if it's new management or what but we have felt big changes this past year that has left us feeling taken advantage of, disconnected and like money is the only thing they care about. It's not even about the money that bothers us. It's how we were treated when we disputed something.

We have been going to Big Valley Vets for around 8 years. We have two Doxies. The staff treat the girls as if they were their dogs. Most important another vet told us one of our dogs had Mersa which would have come from their operating room, and there was nothing they could do for her.Dr. Watson big Valley Vets found an antibiotic they had not tried, she is Mersa Free. Above and beyond is how they roll. 10+ five stars. Highly recommend!! Karen Jennings

We'd been taking our pets here since we moved to Poulsbo, in part based on the excellent reviews and the supposed balance between traditional and holistic practice. Unfortunately, those reviews were extremely unfounded as it leans almost exclusively holistic. Perhaps this practice may work well for some, but for us, it was not a good fit. The vet was often rude and dismissive, especially when we asked questions and didn't immediately fall in line with her suggestions. The final straw was when she seemingly forgot that the office is open concept and I could hear her complaining about my pets specifically. It literally made me fearful to leave them in her care.

We have been excellent clients and high paying due to an animal with chronic illness. We received a letter Monday chocked full of accusations and lies by a new Vet there. We were fired with absolute undue cause and their accusations are serious. I would not touch this clinic with a ten foot pole if I were you. I am considering getting an attorny.

If you're an existing client, find a new vet fast! If you're new, don't even consider this place. They don't care about their patients. I've been going to this practice for 7 years. Spent literally thousands of dollars. I've had all of my pets here and recently was told when I called to have my dog seen for an illness that because I hadn't been there in the last year I was considered a new client, and they weren't taking any new clients! This for my dog who Dr Watson had seen so many times I can't even count for a skin problem that she couldn't figure out, that I was suggesting things to look for and that another vet determined easily with a blood test and skin scrape was Staph and Yeast. Cleared up in weeks with an antibiotic and yeast medicine. I might add both of these problems came about after her spay surgery was performed here. Coincidence? Maybe. This place was great when Dr. Shannon Leska was there. Gone downhill ever since she left.

Big Valley has been caring for our pets for many years. Dr. Shelby offers many varied treatments and procedures to care for our furry family members with loving compassion.

Another one bites the dust...we were just fired by Big Valley Vet because I had to cancel my pet's last appointment so I could take my husband to urgent care. They sent a missed appointment invoice and a snarky letter ending our vet/patient/client relationship immediately. They made some flimsy allegations to insinuate that I was a 'bad' pet owner. They also state that 'unfortunately for my pet I am negligent' because I wouldn't sign off on unlimited and unwarranted tests. (If I were a 'bad' pet owner would I take my pet to the vet annually /or address illness and other issues as they come up?) Bottom line: It is mostly about the moolah with this Vet and not about the care and compassion of the pet. Sad thing is I thought we had a good relationship. When I called to cancel the appointment they were kind and understanding. They said to call and reschedule after the holidays....instead we got dumped and made to feel like we are 'bad' pet owners. Which we are NOT! Anything to take the stink off them and make it our fault. Please think twice before taking your pet/pets to this vet.

Something odd is going on at this practice. Used to be good but now existing customers can’t get a regular check up without paying a premium for the appointment because there is “no availability”. Dr Watson is not as dedicated as she used to be and the new vets that got hired are rude and/or negligent. This place became crazy expensive and the vets are quite inconsiderate and unprofessional.

My dog requires prescription dog food to make sure he doesn't develop crystallization in his bladder. This vet canceled his annual, claiming they were too busy to be able to see him or take new patients but never notified us and his prescription lapsed so now I have to find a new vet to update his prescription after the fact. Truly unhelpful and I highly reccomend you go somewhere else but it doesn't matter because they don't accept new clients anyway. What a joke if you are currently with them go somewhere else before they screw you over too.

Always take great care of our dog even though she can be a bit anxious! Unlike the groomer, she is excited and runs straight in when we visit!
