I rented a car in Pullman through Hertz early 2025 and was stunned to receive a notification from a 3rd party called Purco assessing me a $1300 charge for scratches on the car door. Of course I hardly drove the car and fully deny that damages occurred during my rental. Its my word against theirs and they essentially used a 3rd party hit squad to continually harass me into paying the bill. My contention is that no one checked me in when I returned because the location is understaffed, the car damage could have occurred anytime after my return and the damage letter did not come until after several weeks later so who knows when the damage happened. To top it off they are only a Hertz franchisee so when I tried to contest it through Hertz corporate, I was out of luck. I know the routine and am a frequent Hertz renter. Watch out for this location, protect yourself, Buyer beware, thoroughly document the condition of your vehicle if you have to rent through Pullman Hertz, you are much better off flying into Spokane and renting through a professionally run Hertz location.

One star is far too high of rating for this place. I needed to swap vehicles due to a car problem. I had been in contact with roadside assistance for over a day, and they said I could go to this location to switch cars. While on the phone with roadside assistance, they contacted this Hertz and confirmed that they were open at the time I could get there (4pm), and that they had plenty of cars available.
When I arrived at 4, there was nobody at the counter. I waited for a few minutes and then called the “for help” number listed on a scrap of paper (which seemed to be this person’s personal phone number). I explained that I was here to swap cars, to which the person on the line responded with “we’re closed”. I pointed out that the hours posted (literally next to the sign with their number) said the counter was open until 7pm, to which they said “well I’m already home, so I don’t know what you want me to do.”
I’m not even sure why this employee bothered to leave their phone number if they weren’t going to do anything when called. They were incredibly short, disrespectful, and annoyed at the prospect of doing their job. At the very least, if there is no one who cares enough to cover the hours listed, put up a sign with whatever times the counter is actually open.
If you’re looking to rent a car from this airport, save yourself time and frustration and choose literally any other company than Hertz.

I had a deeply frustrating and unprofessional experience with Hertz at the Pullman, Washington airport. From the moment I picked up the car, the service was confusing and subpar. There was virtually no instruction or guidance provided. When I picked up the car, the process was extremely minimal — they took my credit card and license information, told me to photograph any damage to show upon my return, and I was simply handed keys and left to figure it out.
The car itself was filthy, clearly not cleaned or inspected prior to my arrival. Even worse, there was visible damage that I didn’t notice until I got to my hotel about 15 minutes later. I was told to document any damage and show it upon return — which I did — because there were no employees available at the lot to do a walkaround or verify the condition of the car before leaving.
When I returned the vehicle, again, no one was at the counter. I had to call the representative, who told me she was in the bathroom and to wait. Once she arrived, I showed her the photo of the pre-existing damage, as I had been instructed to do. She not only insisted that I caused the damage but also took my phone, texted herself the photo, and then tracked me down at the airport gate to say it was my fault. She continued texting me for about an hour afterward, trying to argue her case — extremely unprofessional and borderline harassment.
This whole process was unacceptable. The lack of structure, cleanliness, accountability, and basic customer service at this location is appalling. I will not be renting from Hertz again, especially at this location, and I strongly encourage others to look elsewhere.

Stuck without emergency service. This location privately owned and the 800 Roadside assistance number is Hertz corporate. Pullman location provides 800 when you call that does not provide service . AND ThERE IS NO CONTACT NUMBER for this location. They do not open until 10 am. I have been without a car since 8 pm yesterday. The scam of providing an emergency number that doesn’t cover this location is dangerous and unprofessional

I have rented from Louise and her team on multiple occasions, even during after hours her communication has been great, and I have been able to seamlessly get the rental. The rentals have always been clean and ready and always greeted with a smile.

Highly recommend Hertz at the PUW airport. They are by far the easiest to work with for pickup/dropoff the vehicle. They are quick, efficient, and on site!!
The customer service is excellent as well.
Louise, the Pullman City Manager for Hertz, went above and beyond to help me. I was stranded in the Pullman airport until 3PM after my 5AM flight got cancelled. I had already returned my rental car keys for the trip and Hertz did not open until 11AM. Louise took the time to try to find someone on her staff who cold come in early to help get me a vehicle, all while being on a trip on the East Coast. I truly cannot express my gratitude enough. Her customer service was exceptional and she turned my whole trip around, as well as the individual who was able to come in early to help me!! This is the kind of top notch customer service that keeps customers coming back. My sincerest thank you!

The Asian lady at the front should not be in a manager position at all costs. I went to the office and asked that I am going to rent a car on Aug 10th for 2 days ahead. She said the Nissan Altima sedan was available and I agreed. When I pick up the car it is unclean, unsanitaryized, and the exterior looks super gross. Here is the photo and very unprofessional to deal with this kind of people.

If you have another option do not rent here. Understaffed, cars packed in, rude office staff, overcharged. I travel for work, booked a car through corporate travel, and first had to wait for a long time for an agent to come in, then had to come back in and wait for him to be free to move a car out of the way to get my car out of the space. Wasted a good 45 minutes just trying to get a car that should have been ready to go. (Keep in mind I am a gold member here, rent from Hertz all the time). A few hours later I get a call from a woman in the office asking me to return the car because the rental agent "gave me the wrong car". I was already hours away and was on a business trip, traveling to another city and was not going to turn around due to their mistake. I had a family emergency and ended up having to return the car to a different city than the one on the contract and they charged an astronomical fee to do so. My $134 rental turned into $550 for a rental that was 28 hours long, simply because I returned to a different city than was on the contract. I have been renting cars for business for decades and have never had this happen. Since this is a "franchise" location Hertz can do nothing about it. My advice: never rent from Hertz in Pullman if you have another option. Also make sure when you are renting in rural areas that the agency is nationally owned, not franchised if possible or you will have no recourse for situations like this.

Not a good option if you are being funded from outside Pullman. Washington Students Association had reserved the car for us, and they had the credit card number on file, but they need an actual card they can slide when you pick up the car. We ended up paying ourselves, and we will be reimbursed by the Association late, which is not a good option for Graduate Students fighting for their basic needs. In this age of communication and technology, why should we have an actual card to "SLIDE"? Isn't it time to change? You may say safety, but to me it is lack of accessibility. Update your system or you will lose customers.

Worst ever car rental experience. Over charged me said I would get a refund back on card it's been over a week and no refund. You call to ask why they pretty much hung up on you and don't help at all say a supervisor will call you but never get a call. Rude and not helpful. Don't rent a car

I have multiple friends who have worked at this establishment and every. single. one. has quit due to this manager's incompetence. For example, she has called her employees expletives on multiple occasions. Her horrific and abusive treatment of her employees clearly shows in the customer service as well, considering the amount of negative reviews already up. HR has been contacted multiple times (for years), but unfortunately has been negligent and has let this behavior continue. I highly suggest that Hertz takes action against this abusive management style before legal action is taken. Also, the manager could benefit from some Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training :)

Really unorganized and poor service. Would not come back or recommend to a friend. The boy at the counter, I think his name was Omran if I am correct, was lazy and unfriendly and when I went to the manager for help she was no better. He messed up the car I was supposed to get and the manager blamed me for the issue instead of taking responsibility. I was given so much unnecessary attitude I almost forgot I was the customer and she was the one giving a service. A shame that this establishment is so many peoples first interaction after landing in Pullman!

I’m not sure what to say. When your hours are open, it makes no sense that no one is on site to help customers. It’s especially embarrassing when someone who quit due to incompetent management is also the only helpful person at this business. I don’t know what Hertz is doing, but it seems to me that this location should be under stricter supervision.
