Reserved a car 5 weeks in advance and they called me the day before pickup to inform me that they overbooked cars and wouldn't have one available for me. I needed the car to drive to a funeral.

Made a reservation, went to pick up car, and they said no cars were available. They found the reservation in their system, but had no cars. Would not refund my Uber charges to get down to their location.

Yes.... All rentals charge more for gas. Why? Car is out of service not generating revenue.. Plus employee must be paid to fill it up. Cost of fuel is explained in contract

I had the best experience picking up my rental here! This is my second time renting at this location and both times the process of picking up and returning my rental was easy and quick. This time around I had the pleasure of working with Anthony. He was incredibly helpful and attentive, making the rental process smooth and efficient. Anthony took the time to answer all my questions and ensured I had the right vehicle for my needs. His friendly demeanor made a big difference, and I truly appreciate his outstanding customer service. Highly recommend working with him! I will definitely be back at this location.

The car smelled of cigarettes, it was not clean like it had stick stiff and lots of spots on the seats, I found a lot of things left behind by the previous renter. The windshield wipers need to be replaced. The engine was making funny noises.

This review is both for Hertz as a whole and for this location.
Context: I made a reservation (same day) and then went in later that day to pick up the car.
Now this first bit is (kind of) on me for apparently not reading the fine print that was supposedly somewhere when I booked it via Priceline.. I didn't have a Physical credit card on hand.. I had debit card (which I was willing to pay a higher deposit with like most places let you do) and I had several of my credit cards on my phone wallet... which you know.. most places accept tap-to-pay now that we're in 2024. *Oh, also this is just a same-day policy from what the clerk was explaining to me??? If I had booked it the day before I apparently could've used my debit card. Make it make sense..*
Anyways, annoying but c'est la vie I guess, I cut my losses for the day since it wasn't imperative that we had the car that moment. My friend then books a car for the next morning since she has a credit card on hand. We arrive to pick it up first thing in the morning and apparently they are overbooked by 5 or more cars and have none available.
This would've been awesome to know at the time of booking. Why in the world are they letting people book so many extra cars that they don't have or anticipate having on hand?
So we wait for later in the day to receive any call about an availability, but the call never comes and we get tired of waiting for a reservation that may not happen.
So we head back over to the location to cancel the reservation (because we couldn't get through via phone) and I overhear the clerk tell the woman in front of us in line that she's only getting a car because she booked so far in advance but that no one else that booked recently was getting one that day. Glad we didn't wait any longer I guess.
Asked the clerk if we could just go ahead and cancel since there weren't any cars and he informs us that Hertz has essentially zero trust in their employees to operate honestly so they basically have no control over the reservation system and can't cancel it for us, but kindly writes a 1-800 number on a post
-it and tells us we'll have to call corporate to officially cancel.
I am now on 55+ minutes of being on hold with Hetz's terrible hold music and intermittent automated message that I've now got memorized. (When I first called it said approximate wait time would be 10 minutes. Hahaha..)
Anyways, the guy at the counter was very nice and that's the only positive thing I have to say about this experience. Otherwise, I'd say go to the Enterprise down the street and save yourself some hassle.

Terrible customer service. Dealership called on my behalf to set up a rental due to warranty repair for engine issues on my new SUV first thing in the morning. The dealer then called this location to confirm 1 hr prior to my arrival that the car was reserved for me and the employee said yes and confirmed the reservation. After driving 45 min to pickup a rental at this Puyallup location during rush hour, the employee Anthony said “oops I gave the car to the wrong person and don’t have any available cars for you”. Save yourself the headache and avoid this rental company.

Called the location and Anthony picked up.
Hes got bad customer service:
-kept me waiting
-bad tone
-Confusing
-he contradicted him self multiple times, saying whats allowed and whats not allowed

Wonderful staff and they kept their appointment. I’ve been to other rentals establishments before and none have service quit like Hertz in Puyallup! I was so impressed that in the future I will book all my rentals through Hertz. Unless my option changes it will be Hertz 1000%.
