It’s almost funny… The Addison has a BAJILLION ads on Craigslist and elsewhere for their “income restricted” (low-income/subsidized) apartments. Yet I can’t get a SINGLE acknowledgment of the voicemails, emails and online contact forms I’ve submitted over the last few weeks. No calls back. Not even an auto-reply to emails. I’ve even tried contacting them via the Rent Cafe website portal, for which I have a long-established account.
I’ve also read about their lawsuit against the City of Seattle (look it up); the city council passed—and kept in place—a handful of new housing laws since COVID that have drastically reduced occupancy rates because people don’t want to live in an unsafe, less clean and less maintained building that’s been a result of the new laws. Their security costs alone have quadrupled at a minimum since these laws took effect. I even AGREE with their claims & position in the lawsuit. All those vacancies yet I still can’t get a call back after weeks of trying.
It’s puzzling. The Addison has several vacancies and needs GOOD tenants that will pay rent and not trash the place. Yet here I am—a senior, disabled female with a stable income, great credit, zero criminal background, and a pristine rental history with excellent references—who’s *desperate* for affordable housing, and I can’t get a single response. (I even requested a TOUR hoping that might get a response. Nope!)
I’ve been on every waitlist for subsidized housing from Everett to South Seattle, the Eastside, and nearly everywhere else in King County for YEARS. I’m also on the City of Seattle’s newly opened Section 8 waitlist. I’m qualified by income AND I’m an ideal tenant with plenty of proof to back that up. But they’ll never know about me.
At this point I’m starting to believe that their ads for the “low-income” units are a scam or they simply flood sites with those ads to give the *appearance* of compliance with federal & state housing regulators that dictate how many units are set aside for low-income renters. (Which would also technically meet the definition of “scam.”)
I’ve tried every other method of contacting them. Since that’s yielded no response… I’m left to share my experience on the internet for everyone else to see & learn from.

Hopefully, Addison continues to win their war against poverty. They priced us out of our apartment, after years of residence, but I hope that helps them attract the type of people they want to live here.
All the images of the pool table in the lobby are fake. There's just a few tables with no chairs.

My boyfriend's apartment is nice on the inside... The weather outside is disgusting .. right when you go outside it reeks like human pee.. homeless people harassing us. People are 3 in the morning screaming at the windows cuz I can't get in. Management could do a little bit better also. When he got his keys and everything he moved in and they supposedly they had somebody come in to clean AFTER he moved it! but I don't know what they cleaned because the place is still the same old cigarette butts under the sink, the floors where filthy I walked around in my socks and my white socks were black on the bottom..also the never took him around to show him where the dumpster was there's a gym but we don't know how to get in. Lots of miscommunication.

Hey, potential renters (as of right right now at 11am) the office is and has been closed all day. Call ahead before just showing up because there have been multiple instances of people just being outside in the rain and cold while the office lights are off/empty.

Lived here for one year. Didn't have a window for the first two months. Every time something broke in my apartment and I put in a ticket for it they didn't come address it for at least a month at a time.
Holes in the roof on the 9th floor that they didn't take care of even though I told them when it first started leaking.
BEDBUGS IN THE WASHING MACHINES, half the dryers don't work so that doesn't kill them. The guy that comes to spray them, uses mint water.
COCKROACHES everywhere.
The elevators never work. And it's a hazard because they have handicapped people in wheelchairs on the 5th floor as permanent residents.
One neighbor shot and killed another neighbor on a lower floor. They constantly had ambulances at this apartment building because someone would OD.
They had staffing changes the whole time I was there, everyone was so kind. But this building is a mess. The owners live in Colorado and don't care to put money into this historical property.
Beware

Bad communications with management, cockroaches in the building, drug used outside the building and inside. Homeless at times, try to force into the building if you exit or enter through the main entrance.

Management of the building are at least there in person, but they still don't seem to act upon residents' complaints or requests unless they deem whatever the issue is as worthy of their attention. I have spoken with people in the Management office multiple times about the stairs never getting cleaned, but no one does anything about it. I understand that bed bugs and roaches can be difficult to manage in a building like this, but basic cleaning of areas where residents need to pass thru for access to our units is BASIC. And I'm still waiting to see it happen, 6 months after moving in.

My husband and I moved in almost 2 years ago, and although there were so many issues with pest control, security, and questionable tenants, the management team has done a tremendous job making this a great place to live. KaSheen and all the other staff, including maintenance and the nice woman who cleans the common areas, have been working tirelessly to make this building a much better place to call home. From my understanding, management changed not too long before we moved in, and this 112 year old building was in serious need of an overhaul. Since moving in, many problem tenants have been dealt with, and security has greatly improved. Although other reviews mention roaches and bedbugs, the current situation is 1000 times better than it was 2 years ago. Management has pest control treatments done in the building on a regular basis, and if tenants follow the guidelines on cleanliness and preventative measures, there would not be an issue with pests. In the past 4 months, I've seen 3 bedbugs, and when management was notified, we had a treatment done. Our apartment doesn't have roaches either. Overall, even with past issues and occasional problem tenants, KaSheen and the staff have gone above and beyond to make this a good place to live, and honestly, we love it here.

This is the last place anybody should move to. This was my first apartment in Seattle and worst and nasty experience in this apartments. The management refuse to answer there phone. There are bed bugs and 🪳 🤮. There are drug addicts who smoke heroin and meth in the hallways. The elevators are always broken It’s very hot you don’t need a heater. Run far away from this place.

I think the maintenance supervisor Ryder and his techs have done such a amazing job there and continuing to do so even with all there obstacles, and crazy tenants they have to pleasure of dealing with every day. Id like to commend them and there efforts on bringing the building to what it is today!! Keep up the good work guys!

One of their tenants hocked a loogie on me while I was walking on the side walk below their window. All attempts to contact the building management were ignored.

Worst apartment I’ve ever lived in. Maintenance men would enter my apartment without prior notice and move my things.
Office lost my paperwork halfway through my lease and left a note on my door to bring my social security number and ID to the office. They would not explain how they “lost” my information.
Drug dealers hang around the halls and harass tenants. Homeless people pound on the lobby doors and threaten to harm you if you don’t let them in. My mail and packages were lost frequently.
The office ladies act kind and cheerful up until you sign your lease then it’s impossible to get ahold of them about the numerous building problems. No remorse or explanation for anything that happens here.

Don’t let the Amazon furniture in the lobby fool you. Lived here for 2 years and I saw 4 bodies come out in bags after the first year. There’s bed bugs in the light outlets and washing machines so eventually you will get them living here. They have 3 different types of roaches, American, German, and oriental that I have seen. There’s a psycho on the 6th floor that throws dog feces and food out of the window to the floor below. The property staff tries their best but the owner of the property doesn’t care how much the residents suffer as long as they can raise the rent at the end of the year.
