How this place stays in business escapes me. I've been here several times (either at a friend's choosing or recommendation) and am mystified by the long lines and good rep.The coffee is mid, the hot chocolate tastes like warm beige, and the service speed is always on the slow side. The food is WILDLY overpriced and rarely as good as it looks, even the pre-made stuff. I paid almost $12 for a sandwich that was slightly bigger than my cell phone. Despite taking several minutes to heat, it came out barely warmed and tasted like dog food. It took almost a third of my lunch hour to get it and I was the first person in line.Wouldn't go here if someone else was paying even. Feh.

Staff was so rude to me today they actually made me cry. I set up my work computer, planned to work there about 3 hours until my doctors appointment later that morning. I am a remote employee, so I spend one to two mornings a week working from coffee shops all over Seattle. I often order a couple of drinks and food and was looking forward to doing the same here. I was setting up my computer and getting my hotspot connected (so there about five minutes) when a staff member with short blonde hair marched up to my table and asked if I was planning on ordering anything. I was shocked. Said, yes I plan to once I set up my computer. She lectured me on how people just show up and use all their Wi-Fi and never order anything and this coffee shop was for paying customers only. Stunned, I asked if she was telling me to leave. She said yes, since you WONT order anything you should leave. I packed up in tears, so embarrassed to be shamed in front of everyone like that. I have never had this happen to me ever. Cafe Umbria seemed like a place where I could work and order food and coffee but I guess not. I'm still shook up about this. What a weird hill to die on.

Nice little coffee shop with friendly staff. Parking was easy and has a minimal charge.

Caffe Umbria is one of the best coffee chains in Seattle. The Ballard location has an awesome staff that is equally good at the register, making and delivering drinks to your table. Whether the line is out the door or you are the only one in line, their service is outstanding. The coffee is consistently the best.

This was my first time at a Caffe Umbria, I came around 8 am on a Friday. I liked my chai latte but I really enjoyed the atmosphere even more! The bartender was kind and friendly. It seems like a place that has many regulars which speaks a lot to how loved this place is.

Mediocre service. Only one young blonde lady who halfway cares about people, everyone else is barely tolerating you. Girl made my drink last night, shoved it toward me, then immediately started cleaning her station inches in front of me over an hour before close. Stood there patiently waiting for her to notice I needed something, asked a couple of polite questions that she immediately shut down dismissively. Clearly wanted nothing to do with a customer.Manager dude isn't much better, gruff with everyone and can't spare one extra second. If you want someone barking "what do you want" and throwing drinks at you like they can't wait for you to leave, come here! If you want to be treated like an actual human being who might be worth 1 minute of conversation, go next door instead.

Perfect cafe!Caffe Umbria has it all. Excellent coffee, great atmosphere with lots of space to work and even sparkling water. Additionally, they have wine which I did not try this time.

This caffee allegedly fired an employee for wearing a Palestine sticker and then when I called them out on it on IG, they blocked me and reported me. Instead of refuting this or offering an apology, they want to censor their customer. They’re pro-censorship.

The speed of service, quality of coffee and the mojo that Cafe Umbria has is a zone of getting homework and tasks done for me. Love this place

Cheap milk (like every other shop these days) really ruins the espresso. Why source good beans to ruin the beverage with cheap thin milk? This place has gone downhill.

Highly recommend their seasonal coffees; the cardamom maple late is mind-blowing. The honey oat latte is also excellent. The staff was very friendly, and the vibes were on point.

Service and vibes were great here! A great spot to grab a coffee and be productive. I got the Nocciola freddo because it looked yummy, but it wasn't an espresso drink haha it's more like hot chocolate with cream foam. This drink was too sweet for me, so would love to try their coffee next time

Extremely aesthetic coffee shop with plenty of outlets. I got a latte made with nonfat milk. I was (pleasantly) surprised when the barista brought my drink over to my table instead of just shouting my order; I always get nervous about spilling! The included chocolate was a nice touch too. I also appreciated that they had the option of sparkling water. Overall, a pretty good place to do work. I'd bring a jacket though; the AC is turned on pretty high. Will definitely be coming back.
