I had a terrible experience here on August 28, 2023; I felt dismissed and belittled by one of the instructors. Previously, I would go here every three months for a facial for approximately the last two years. I was diagnosed with cancer in December 2022 and this was one of the few treats I had from my previous life. I always had excellent experiences and service in the past, including my two visits in early 2023.This last time, however, was very different. It started well enough, the student was attentive and friendly. But then her instructor, whom I had never met before, came in and she was AWFUL. I didn't catch her name, because I was seeing red by the end (but she had glasses and long brown hair).She told me that Aveda could not provide any services for me, because of my cancer and,--I quote-- they "couldn't have a student working on me." I told her that I had facials since the diagnosis and I wasn't trying to hide anything. She said, in a flippant tone, "someone wasn't doing their job." She went on to tell me how she'd worked with oncology patients in the best and massages can spread cancer cells and so on; a cursory Google search would have let her know that myth has been largely debunked (and on top of she is NOT an oncologist). I also reminded her I was having a FACIAL, which is far away from my tumor site. To make matters worse, she decided that it was okay to have this discussion in front of other students and the one client that was in the room (there were no separators up that day). She made me feel like I was doing something wrong. I don't even think she discussed this with the student assigned to me before coming in. She had no tact or empathy at all.Before I left, I let her know that I did not appreciate the treatment. She gave me a pretty insincere apology, only because I was upset. She wasn't apologetic before that. I called corporate the same day to lodge a complaint, but no one even bothered to call me back. It's clear that this treatment comes from the top down these days. It's sad. It's bad enough being a cancer patient, but now I will constantly worry about being treated badly because of it. I will never step foot in there again.

I've gone here before for services and had a good experience. I had an appointment for today. Arrived early after paying for a few hours of parking only to be told they had canceled all their appointments. Front desk person said she had called me on Saturday to tell me and that she had left a message. I had no message, missed call, or email about a cancellation. They actually hadn't contacted me at all because I wasn't in their appointment system at all (so despite her insisting that she had contacted me that wasn't accurate.) I showed her the email with my confirmed appointment. She said they've been having problems with their appointment system where people will get an email confirmation but they don't actually have any information saved in their system (maybe they should post something about that on the website or include language about that in the confirmation email, instead of letting people just show up only to be turned away). I was really bummed out because I had scheduled this a few weeks in advance, took time out of my day, paid parking. She didn't seem super interested in helping me. There is nothing posted on their website to indicate they aren't doing services at this time. Super disappointed this time.Update: sent an email to them per their request. Said I would get a call back. I didn't get a call. Sent another email a few days later letting them know I hadn't received a call. Said I would get a call "soon". Still didn't get a call. My initial email was sent almost 2 weeks ago.

Absolutely amazing!!!! Major discount because students are the one cutting your hair but result was awesome and for sure the best hair please I have been to.

Kincaid did a good job cutting my hair with assistance from her supervisor Richard. My hair is layered nicely and cut to just the right length on the first pass. Beautiful!! All at a reasonable price although it did take almost 1.5 hours which is fine for student services. Just be aware.

Bex colored my hair today. I was nervous and not entirely sure what I wanted. She asked me questions and made suggestions, and I ended up with lovely copper highlights that livened up my hair, yet are subtle enough to look natural.

I want to tell others I was treated with such courtesy and over all great experience with the lady that did my hair and all that shared the task.The price was something I could afford and the Perm turned out very nice.It took long time getting it done. It was her first in a long time, but was worth it. The Head Hair stylist even helped. TYVM To ALL who helped and made my day such a enjoyable trip.I would suggest this place to anyone who would like to get their hair done, anything I think they do there, The Perms, Styles, Cts, Coloring . I saw it all getting fone and no complants to the Hair Dressers.Prices are very good. Compared to the over priced ones who say they can do your hair and it ends up not at all worth the price they ask for!! YOUR GREAT AVEDA ARTS & SCIENCE. I will return again.

Went to this school a few years back and this review is LONG overdue. First day of class I was falsely accused and humiliated by the OWNER of the institute in front of my entire class and faculty for falling asleep during his 'welcome speech'. It was one of the traumatic and humiliating experiences of my entire life. The director of admissions Dean would regularly peep through the cracks of the stalls while students were in there clearly inebriated or under the influence. I am not making this up and am willing to stake my reputation and career on every single factual claim I am making in this review. The institute was and still is run like a sweat shop where underprepared students are forced to work like indentured slaves to make this place money and to push and sell product above all else. The overall horrifying and traumatizing experience is not worth the tuition you pay for such an unprofessional, fascist, and discriminatory institution of learning. Stay away from this place at all costs.

I always go to the Aveda Institute for my haircuts, they do a fantastic job and the students are 100% focused on your service. The instructor checks in often and, while it takes longer than a normal haircut does, it is definitely worth the extra time for the attention to detail and the affordable cost. I also recommend their spa services as well.

I've been going to Aveda for at least 15 years. Their excellent services delight me every time I visit. I love the vibrant atmosphere and the enthusiastic students who provide such amazing haircuts and styles. They lavish me with Aveda products and help me decide on the best treatments and styles for my hair. The students also discuss their plan for my service with their instructors which helps me know exactly how my cut will be accomplished. I feel very fortunate to be an Aveda Institute client!

I really like using Aveda Institute for my haircuts - I am a simple easy going client and I understand they are students. I don't mind that these services do take a while, or might have learning curves. There is always a supervisor to review the work I have received, and I always leave satisfied. Seattle is super expensive - this a great way to save money and give the students more hours of experience to complete their program!

I have been coming to the Seattle location on Capitol Hill (off & on) since 2008. The attention to customer service is always A-A+; the quality of service is also excellent even though the services are provided by students; that is a testament to the staff and teachers there. They are very professional in helping their students while assisting them to give quality care. I've had numerous haircuts, color, and skin services and will continue to return as long as the quality of service continues to be so superb.

I came in for a haircut and things started off fine. I had a student haircut and the student was very friendly. The first hour was fine. However, I realized long enough after that they really struggled with having both sides be even. Eventually, an instructor stepped in to advise the student and guide them. However, this full process for a simple trim ended up taking 3 hours! I could've left at any moment, but the student kept reassuring me "I'm almost done". Everyone else was already closing and cleaning their stations.After the 3 hour cut, I paid and was asking the checkout person for how long they usually take and that my person spent 3 hours and they responded with a vague response "normal haircuts are 30 minutes to an hour, but obviously when you're with students you have to expect longer". 3 hours is wayyyyyyy too long for a haircut and I hope to be reimbursed for my time.

I have been coming here since my disaster at Gene Juarez. Unfortunately they have hired the man who was a major cause of his school being shut down.I'm happy to report that while coming here, Aveda has repaired all the issues this man caused: a line on the back of my head, which he instructed his students to hide and major hair damage from a student he didn't supervise since she was graduating. He even went on about how lovely my hair color was when he turned my hair pink. He has no ethics. I wasn't even offered a conditioning treatment when his student burned my hair off. Again, lack of ethics.Today I can't get my hair done, even though I had an appointment. He was to be my instructor and the Director argued with me rather than assigning another instructor. I didn't feel like a valued long time customer. I felt dismissed.I Will Never allow this man to supervise the student who works on my hair. Ever.Luckily it's only the one employee they mistakenly hired.Great place, just be Really careful. There's a bad seed working here.If you get him, you won't get Aveda, you will get the shut down Gene Juarez treatment. And then you will be dismissed.

Was given run around on directions to new location,ended up by trader Joe's in Roosevelt. Gal on phone said she just moved to Seattle from out of state,New & didn't know area well. Asked price of cut"quoted 18.00. Then told 20.00 . After shampoo Gal doing my hair said oh that 35.00 for sanitizing sink Was not happy w/surprise cost ,she seemed in a hurry to finish or leave . Receptionist taking long time to help me . Idk about going back any soon or next time
