We started using Hawthorne Hills 4y ago when they were at the previous location, and while expensive, seemed thorough and collaborative. There has been a slide in the last year towards upselling interventions and procedures and visits despite expressed concerns of burdens of things that are 'preventative' on an 11yr old large dog. It was especially concerning when we were pressured (in person to remove more than just the single lesion of concern, by phone when we called to cancel, and in email when we followed up to ensure cancellation) to proceed with a surgery (under general anesthesia) to remove what a fine needle aspiration showed was a small benign lesion that the standard of treatment is no intervention (sebaceous adenoma). If you want aggressive treatment regardless of cost and age of animal, and to be asked to pay for a virtual visit (at same cost of regular visit) to briefly share by phone less aggressive goals of care for your animal, this is the place for you. We're moving on to a mobile vet.

I brought my elderly cat here after trying multiple vets in the area. He had a tumor on his paw and for years every vet told me he was too old to operate on or that it wasn't worth the money for surgery. I noticed on the first visit that the folks at Hawthorn Hills were extremely thorough. They engaged with me and my kitty, listened to all my concerns, and said right away that they could help him. They were super confident my kitty could handle surgery and made me feel reassured. The surgery went super well and my cat's quality of life is better than ever! They really took their time with me and my cat, and I am so glad I found them and had his tumor removed. Highly recommend!

It's a shame we did not find Hawthorne Hills Veterinary Hospital until we needed a vet for our pup's health certificate processes for our move abroad! I picked this vet clinic and Dr. Riedinger precisely because of her status as a Fear Free Certified Professional and the extensive information on health certificates on their website!Dr. Riedinger and Sue have been extremely resourceful, kind, and prompt in their ongoing communications with us before and during our vet visits for our pups, Chevi and Obama. Both have their little quirks, including blindness and fear of strangers, and we have felt supported, acknowledged, and knowledgeable throughout the health certificate preparation process so far, all thanks to the professionalism of this team. They provide precise and thorough instructions and information before, during, and after your visits. After Obama's first successful vet visit with Dr. Riedinger, my partner said, "They really know what they're doing in there!" You all genuinely have no idea how much it means to us to feel welcomed and supported with our dog's unique needs and a typically stressful process. I also highly appreciated their continued safety protocols due to Covid-19.We feel confident that our health certificate processes will be successful with Dr. Riedinger so far, and we highly recommend her and this practice to anyone looking for a caring and kind vet in Seattle!

We love the vets at Hawthorne Hills. They saved our dog's life (near DCM disaster) and will forever be our dog's angels.

I recently switched over to Hawthorne Hills and my 1.5yr old Rottie decided he was not a fan of the vet anymore. They have been so patient in the process to make him more comfortable.I was so worried that veterinary visits were going to be a troubling experience moving forward but they have helped to put my mind at ease while giving Otto the absolute best in veterinary care.I can't speak highly enough about all the veterinary techs, Dr. Eskesen, and Dr. Riedinger. Really appreciate this team and cannot recommend this veterinary hospital enough!

Finding a vet in Seattle is no small task these days. A LOT of places aren't taking new patients. I was fortunate that Hawthorne Hills took my dog as a patient because I recently moved to Seattle and needed to establish vet care.Receptionist, vet tech & Dr. Nevill were all great to interact with. The exam was thorough, and I didn’t feel like they were trying to sell me on anything unnecessary. I felt like pricing was what was to be expected (my dog got 4 vaccines, fecal test, heartworm blood test, & 6 months of heartworm & flea/tick meds). Happy to have a good vet near my new apartment!!

Dr. Eskesen and Dr. Nevill are both wonderful doctors! I particularly appreciate how thorough Dr. Eskesen is with her communication with the patients. Both have helped my little guy a lot and provided excellent service/care.

Dr. Neville and staff have cared for my 2 cats, one with Hospice. They listen, love for their profession and those they care for is felt and visible. Not pushy about services make it feel like a team effort. Efficient appointments and return requests promptly.

HHVH advertises as following science-based veterinary medicine. Having background in academic research myself, I was disappointed to see that Dr. Riedinger's understanding of professional literature was pretty basic. She recommended a blog as a source of information and seemed to rely on hypotheses by a selected researcher instead of systematic literature review and consensus veterinary medicine. Moreover, the staff does not listen to what pet owners say. Even after being told on multiple occasions that my cats refuse to eat the recommended food, the staff kept repeating at nauseam that I should feed it to them.Currently, the clinic does not allow in-person appointments. That system may allow for better protection against Covid but it certainly does not create a good platform for successful communication between pet owners and their veterinarian. The street where the clinic is located is very loud and our phone conversations with Dr. Riedinger were dominated by the noise of nearby Roosevelt station construction.Considering the points above, it's no wonder that our cats continue to be sick with no clear diagnosis or treatment plan in sight. We have just requested moving our pets' records to another veterinary clinic.
