We hired Barry in late summer 2023 to act as contractor for a few home improvement items, the largest of which was getting our single-family home re-sided (Hardie Board) and painted. He did an excellent job as contractor / project manager, mainly in that (1) he clearly communicated options and responded quickly to our questions and (2) his time estimates were realistic (in one case, something took about a week longer than expected, for which he provided a clear explanation). All in all, we highly recommend his services!

Unfortunately, we live outside the area that HD services covers. However, Barry took the time to walk us through the most affordable options we had for our backyard shed and patio cover. We are so thankful that he took the time to help us even though our business would not come his way. There are still good people out there - thank you Barry!

We used HD Construction recently and they were amazing to work with. We had an unexpected flooding situation in our basement and Barry and Co. truly saved the day! They responded quickly and professionally, helping us through this minor crisis. From the removal of the damaged parts of the basement, to providing professional advice, and consulting on the next steps to remedy the problem. We are thankful to know that there is a trustworthy, professional and reasonably priced construction company we can now rely on. I highly recommend.

Barry and his crew have done 2 small repair projects for me and are about to start a third. He's the most competent, knowledgeable and honest contractor I've ever encountered. Everything that's been said by other reviewers here is true. If I were doing a serious remodel or a from-scratch construction project, his company would be at the top of my list.

When I moved into our 1938 Ballard home a few years back, the inspector, after giving a full reasonable report of the house said, "Oh and the garage, well... I think you know". Indeed the detached garage was more of a shanty spider nest with a gravity defying lean that was barely safe enough for my lawn mower. "Someday", I said. "Someday we will rebuild..." Over the years I consulted with a few contractors including a few of the larger firms with strict lower limits on the size of projects they are interested in. Never felt right. I've never been involved in a construction project, I have no idea what I'm in for and I knew it. This was just too much. Meeting with Barry gave me new hope. He was full of creativity. Lots of options with varying budget options. He even had ideas on how to save the original structure. I nodded along politely and then said, "Let's tear it all down." Nine months later I'm writing this review in my new garage/office. Gentle natural light is filtering down from the skylights in my vaulted ceiling onto gorgeous polished concrete floors. My A/C has clicked on to celebrate the rare 80+ degree day. Later this evening I might open the tri-fold patio doors and enjoy the cool breeze reflecting on the journey that was both harder than I imagined and yet more successful than I hoped. Barry was a great partner in all this. He runs a very tight ship and has an excellent crew. He works really closely with our designer Joanne to get our plans and permits together. The demolition crew put on a hell of a show and even let my wife run the excavator. They were super flexible and didn't flinch when they needed to pull up some giant tree roots and fill in sinkholes. The framers put the structure up so fast I just blinked and it was done. Jesus the drywall guy is a straight wizard. Patrick the carpenter has an eye for detail, always ready to discuss which of us has the better obscure sci-fi reference t-shirt, and built the most beautiful fence I've ever seen. Barry is himself a great communicator and problem solver. I also found it very reassuring that he lives only a 1/4 mile away where he (and sometimes his young sons, and once even his mom) could be onsite in minutes. We had plenty of challenges where any thoughts I may have had over "Well... what do I really need a contractor for?" were easily banished. A million decisions, inconsistent inspectors, cranky neighbors, a global-fucking pandemic, we made it through. I'm probably completely spoiled now and I wouldn't have any other way.

Barry says things like, "If this were my house you know what I would do..." and "I want to save you money where we can and still end up with a finished product we are all happy with". Barry is the kind of guy that seems to have a textbook of house knowledge floating around in his head and he is happy (giddy at times?!) to share what he knows. On our project he was an invaluable resource. He listened to what we wanted and offered solid feedback to our ideas, he respected our desire to be involved and save money through DIY when it was possible, he kept us up to date throughout the process, and overall was just really great to work with.

Barry is like a professor of everything related to houses. His workmanship is superb. He also gives great advice, sometimes talking you out of expensive ideas for very good reasons. He actually puts himself in your shoes and considers whether or not the expenditure is worth it. Then he'll propose a less costly alternative.

HD is the best! I had a lot of fun working with the HD crew on my home studio (I know - how can construction in your backyard be fun?!?!), and everything turned out perfectly. All aspects of the project exceeded my expectations.

I contacted Barry for a quote for a tiny job and he immediately got back to me and offered to do the job but also explained to me how I could easily do the fix myself for much cheaper- so helpful and honest! When I have a bigger issue I can't fix myself I will definitely be contacting him again!
