The most awkward experience of my life. I walk in and say hello and the register person just stares at me awkwardly. Then when I go to order after the awkward silence I get, "Let me stop you right there, we are working on a big order so all new orders are going to take at least an hour." Totally cool and reasonable, but you could have just led with that instead of staring at me weirdly just to interrupt me.

I almost never leave reviews and am only moved to by truly exceptional quality. I have been a customer at Royal Grinders since around 2013 when I lived right up the street. I would go at least once (sometimes three times) a week my whole time I lived in the neighborhood. I’m a creature of habit and always get the chicken pesto grinder with everything. Since leaving the neighborhood I don’t have the opportunity to go as often, but i look forward to it every time I do. When it closed during the pandemic, I was quite disappointed. I remember when it first reopened I called ahead to get my usual order. I figured it would be slammed. Nobody answered like they always had in the past and I was disappointed. When I arrived I noticed the line going out the door and I understood why no one had answered. When I got to the front the owner seemed to recognize me from my time as a regular which took me by surprise. I told him I’d called ahead and nobody answered. He was apologetic and, without me asking, told me he would get my order out quickly. There were at least 5 people waiting ahead of me and my sandwich came out first. I felt truly appreciated and like my regular business was noticed and rewarded which is extremely rare. As for the sandwiches, they are literally my favorite sandwich in the city. I take any opportunity to tell my friends that it’s the best sandwich spot in town.

Got the Italian. Basically just a meat sandwich. Would've been better with more of a balance between meat, cheese, and veggies.

Wow! If I could give more stars, I would. The staff were excellent, the vibe inside was exquisite, the food was amazing, what else is there? A perfect hole in the wall lunch spot. Good value for the combo, only request would be more drink options.Vegetarian options: Good variety of options, sandwiches can be made vegan with few omissions, so good for both crowds.

good sandwichreal review: long wait during peak hours (30 minutes or something, be prepared) but fairly priced, very well put together sandwich (never fallen apart in my hands, can't say the same for pretty much any other sandwich place I've been to in the Seattle area.. not sure why there isn't a focus on form factor but being able to eat a sandwich without worrying about it spilling or something is seriously underrated...). The bread is incredible, the quality of ingredients is great, the texture, the crunch, the size of the thing. A great meal with great value. I wish I was in Fremont more often just to eat a sandwich from this place --- I'm considering moving my therapy appointments from Tuesday to Wednesday or something like that just so I can be in Fremont on a day where this place is open. It's really great. If they closed I think I'd probably cry. One time I brought a couple of my friends to Fremont just for the sole purpose of showing them this place, and they were closed for a staff event. No shade at all, hope they had fun but I don't think I've ever felt true dread like I did at that moment. If it were socially acceptable I might have dropped to my knees and wailed; truly I had spent months hyping up this place and I wasn't able to share it with them. The friend who hadn't eaten there before still has yet to have tried a sandwich from this place. One day.

Since the demise of the Delicatessen Montanti food truck, Royal Grinders is my favorite sandwich in Seattle. I get the Italian Grinder with extra sauce and it’s just SO damn good. The shop gets very busy during lunch hours, so I recommend ordering 45-ish minutes ahead and picking up takeout. The estimates I’ve been given for pickup times have been accurate, and I’ve found that even when busy, they still make an excellent sando ???
