Slate has been a fantastic gym for me for about 3 years. Fitness-wise, I've noticed great gains in strength and mobility. Lifestyle-wise, I've found myself feeling better (re: more happy and energetic) throughout the rest of my day. Community-wise, it's perfect! a balance of friendly competition, coaches that understand and cater to your specific needs, and coaches and clients alike that hang out outside of the gym as well.PS - the coaches really know there sh*t about skeletal and muscular systems. Not only what things are and how they connect, but how to fix/heal them when they hurt.

Slate has been the most supportive and inclusive community of coaches and members! Coaches provide personalized modifications around injury and ability. Slate is a great place to get fit and have fun!

I should have posted this review at least quarterly over the 5 years I was a member here before I moved to the East Coast, but I was spoiled. I know now I will rarely find a gym like this again. You should absolutely take the opportunity to check out Slate. You will find an amazingly welcoming, inclusive, member-driven, expertly coached environment to fall in love with feeling good and strong. Over the years I have watched long-time members, first-time gym goers, and former CrossFit competitors train together with the same result each time- positive vibes abound! I go back to Slate as my home whenever I am in Seattle and always will. Thank you always for the community you have created Clay, Karny, and Whitney.

Great community for strength and fitness! Knowledgeable coaches, regulars you get to know, variety of equipment and workouts. Slightly older crowd, lots of parents. No pressure to "over do it", just a very supportive, welcoming, positive community.

Dropped into a class with my sister who goes to Slate regularly and loves it! The environment was inviting and coaches were kind and knowledgeable. I don’t do CrossFit regularly and felt totally supported at my level, if I lived nearby I’d jump to join this community. Thanks Slate for the awesome experience!

The vibe at Slate is phenomenal. When I am traveling through Seattle this place is a must stop. The 5am class has a killer vibe. The coach Morgan has great energy. You can tell he is truly passionate about his profession. All the members go out of their way to say hello and make you feel welcome. Lastly, the owner Whitney is great. I sent a late email asking to drop-in and she got back to me immediately. This place is ?. ? ?

The best thing I've ever done for myself is taking 1:1 training from Whitney Voigt. I was nervous to get back into the gym in January—because of old injuries I fight with and being cautious about COVID—but Whit and I talked through it all, she made time and space for me to be in the gym 1:1, and assured I was comfortable with every movement, at every step, along the way.I don't know how many hours Whit spent studying my injuries (herniated L4-5 and torn hip labrum) but she showed up to each workout with an informed plan and knew things about the injuries, and strengthening around them, I hadn't yet learned. We spent January and February training 1:1, and I gently joined classes in March. I was even able to start running again (Without pain!) and crush a rowing machine, which I thought I’d never do again! The coaches and members at SLATE are so incredibly welcoming, and encouraging—whether you're a newb or seasoned pro. I've been part of many gyms at many levels and I do not hesitate to say this is THE best.If you have the chance to take 1:1 training from Whit—even if it's just once or twice a month to check in on form—DO IT. You will NEVER regret the decision.

I started CrossFit (now disaffiliated) after a shoulder injury and surgery. I was terrified of the roided-lookimg stereotype lifting ridiculous amounts of weight at blazing speeds. But I gave it a shot. Slate is my second gym and even though I now live ~20 minutes away, it's worth the drive. The coaches at Slate are AMAZING. First, their focus is good form--not weight or speed. This means you always have someone with an eye on your safety. At the same time they balance encouraging/pushing you with continuing to coach/correct. Not easily done, but they do it right. The community is equally as amazing. People are friendly and welcoming, encouraging, and just enough peer pressure to push yourself for a good workout. Are there people who can lift really heavy really fast? Yes. But they're actually the nicest, most encouraging, helpful people there. You're judged on your effort, not your weight/speed.The space is large, equipment is good, and they've followed COVID precautions well.I could never keep myself accountable or on track just going to the gym. But having a scheduled workout and signing up for class has gotten me in shape. Can't recommend Slate highly enough.

I have been a member of Slate Strength & Conditioning for a year and half and it has been an amazing, positive, healthy experience. This gym is committed to making fitness accessible to ALL types including those just starting a new wellness journey or those already on their way, young, older, female, male, whatever. That's the beauty of the Slate community - we are here to support one another, learn from one another, work hard and have fun doing it! I know first hand what it is like to walk into a new gym out of shape, no idea what's going on (some would say I still don't know...) and feeling intimidated by all those people. That's why I love the Slate coaches and fellow members - we all belong. We are all committed to doing what we can. Great people and great coaches make all the difference.

I have tried out several gyms in the Seattle area, and Slate is BY FAR the best. The coaches are all excellent, the programming is challenging, and the atmosphere is supportive and competitive. Whitney has even set up tents outdoors so we are still able to attend classes during the pandemic.

This is my 5th cross-training gym experience in the greater Seattle area over the last six years. The coaches all have their strong qualities to making your workout the best it can be. The team of coaches has made a significant effort in keeping a clean and safe gym during this years pandemic. Currently in the second lockdown, they have daily warmups and workouts available to members. You can borrow equipment such as dumbbells' if necessary. The coaches also post videos to clarify the movements for the workouts. It's worth emailing and seeing what their program is all about.

Great coaches and an even better community. Slate has a very large (and clean) space, and it’s easily accessible but far enough away from main roads to not have to play high-stakes Frogger when the WOD involves running. They definitely don’t skimp on equipment here, everything is well taken care of and shiny new stuff is easy to find.

Great coaches and great atmosphere with lots of space. Everyone from the members to the coaches are friendly and encouraging. They do not have an elitist attitude which makes it welcoming for all ages and abilities. Rare to find that in a crossfit gym. Highly recommended.
