Checked out Total Wine & More (Northgate branch) on a Saturday evening. They have 10 locations in the Washington area. The place is massive with a huge selection of wines, spirits, beer, cider, vermouth and non-alcoholic drinks. They also sell cigars if that's your thing. Large covered parking lot and in-store sampling offered from Thursday to Saturday. They didn't have much sour beer options but an interesting selection of craft cider. We ended up buying a few cans/bottles from One Tree Hard Cider ($4.99 USD to $8.99 USD), ACE Cider ($2.79 USD) and Newtopia ($4.99 USD).

This store drives me crazy. I’m a normal looking 35 year old and all the employees are constantly trying to ID me. Then they also need to ID you and everyone in your party at the register. That would be okay, annoying but totally ok, EXCEPT they are kid friendly. You know who they don’t make show their IDs every 2 seconds, children who shouldn’t even be in the store. I wouldn’t recommend this store unless it’s the only place in the area that has what you’re looking for.

Large selection, very well organized. Employees always ready to help with a recommendation. Free tastings on a few different items, usually different each time I am in.

Very friendly staff. Quite decent selection of non-alc alternatives, especially beer, but also de-alcoholized wine and spirits; sobriety is a trend!

Lots of staff around to help you find things, and check out quickly! Many of them are very knowledgeable and kind, which is nice with such a large selection.

My partner and I were followed around the store the entire length of our previous visit, the older white gentleman didn’t once say anything to us but was surely at the end of any isle we walked down.My partner is white but I am a darker Latino man.It was very transparent, disheartening and uncomfortable. This was 2 weeks ago, I put in a complaint through the customer service number and have not heard back since. Though it appears my friend heard back almost immediately.I will admit that when I was asked if I wanted to be called by the manager I expressed not wanting that because I found it likely I would be talking to the guy responsible and didn’t want to be gaslit over the phone. Despite that I was told I’d be contacted by somebody, which has not happened. My frustration has doubled now knowing that a friend of mine (another person of color) has recently experienced similar if not worse treatment. This gives off the impression that this was not a one time thing but rather that if you’re a person of color, you should expect to be treated like a would be thief by the staff. My white friends report not being followed or watched by the staff.Being a paying customer yet being followed and watched like a criminal sends a message, through their actions the staff is telling us that we are not trusted, welcome or wanted at their store.

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with the sudden shift in attitude and behavior from management at this store. My partner and I, who are both white, have come into this location multiple times with reusable bags and staff on the floor have never given us a second glance. Now, if you come through the store doing this while being so much as a shade darker than either of us, you’re deemed a potential thief and treated as such the entire time you’re there.A few days ago, my friend and I were trying to shop for a liqueur. We were approached by one associate asking if we needed help finding anything, which we did not, and he proceeded to peer over to look into my friend’s bag. He then pretended to note down something on his clipboard, glanced around the aisle, and walked away. For the duration of our short visit, not one, not two, but THREE other associates would “happen” to pass by the aisle we were in and hover at the end, monitoring us the entire time while making small talk on the clock. Two of them followed us through the store as we were trying to go through check out and leave. This was experience was deeply uncomfortable and upsetting and I promptly shared these grievances with a man named John who would pass my contact information to the store manager, Justin, who chose to follow up with me the next day and not with my other friend who had left a similar complaint two weeks before this incident. We are almost at 2024 and I should not have to be explaining to dumbfounded employees on the phone how racial profiling works. This kind of treatment to paying customers is hostile and does not deter theft the way higher ups at corporate thinks it does. If companies truly cared about protecting their products, they would invest in security, but they choose not to. Do NOT make that our problem when we’re trying to shop somewhere in the city. I do not want empty apologies. I do not want hand outs or discounts. I want policy to ensure that the quality of a shopping experience is equal for every customer who comes in. I am no longer giving this franchise my business and I will be encouraging everyone I know to do the same.

Yeah the staff here racially profiles, both occasions my friends have shopped here and because of their non white skin tone the staff thinks its acceptable to follow and watch them the whole time.

Looked up a bottle of tequila online then sent my husband to the store to purchase the bottle. It was way more than advertised online and then were not willing to honor the price posted online though they acknowledged that it was priced as such on the website.

Great selection but wish the staff at the Northgate location weren't so blatantly rude. I get it, I look young but I am of legal age, have proof, and give you a sale. Some respect would be nice as a customer. I stood in line and the man was still checking out the customer ahead of me. He saw me on my phone minding my own business and decided to snap at me that I need to move up and put my items down. Completely unnecessary. We finish the transaction and he asks if I need a receipt. I say no, have a good night. And he says "uh ok then". Not sure why he decided to have such an attitude and poor customer service etiquette directed toward me. Anyways, will not be coming back to this location. I'd rather buy what I need from a different branch than be followed around the store like a criminal because I look under 40 and then be given attitude.

Wow! The selections of wines are amazing. I loved the extra security presence. It's nice to shop feeling secure. Great prices also.

I do not recommend this store.I was not sold the product because I was with a friend and she did not have the documents with her, I think this is not right because I was the main customer and because of this I had to go to another store.
