I have found that the program is incredibly frustrating and drawn out. It was over 15 emails for one claim, denied 2x, then approved to not pay anything.
I'm sure it is worth it for some people, but I don't know that I would sign up with trupanion again.

Phenomenal customer service! Trupanion has always been very quick to response, and claims are addressed with in a day. My representative answers all of my questions quickly and kindly. I have been very impressed with all of my interactions with this company. They obviously love fur kids too.

So expensive, our lab has just gone up to $340 per month and we have never made a single claim, she’s 13 now
My advice to everyone is to put your initial monthly premium into a savings account and let it build as the years go by
The risk of course is they might need some expensive care when young but probably worth the risk

Its a scam this company. Be careful how your your veterinarian words whats wrong with your pet even if your pet went in for a scratch and your veterinarian put scratch on your pets medical records and you go to a emergency room to get a scratched looked at and you have this insurance they will claim its a preexisting condition and deny your claim. 100 percent stay away from this not worth the money. Only benefit is if you have a brand new pet first visit to a veterinarian maybe you will get coverage.

We initially chose Trupanion because we were assured that rates would not increase as our pet aged. When we enrolled, our monthly premium was in the low $60s with a $750 deductible. Over the past four years, I have observed a steady increase in our premium. Approximately one year ago, it rose by $30 per month. Upon inquiring about this change, I was informed that inflation in my area was the cause.
During that conversation, the representative mentioned that while I could increase the deductible to reduce the premium, I would never be able to lower it again. As a result, I opted to raise the deductible to over $1,000, which brought the premium down to $68 per month.
However, I recently received an email notifying me that the premium will increase to $102 per month starting in August 2025. Given that our premium has nearly doubled since we first enrolled, and we have never had to utilize the insurance, we have decided to cancel our policy.
We are disappointed by these ongoing increases, especially considering that we have not had any claims.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We cannot speak more highly of Trupanion. They provided reliable, excellent insurance to our dog Sam for the her entire life. With lightning fast reimbursement too. If only humans could get the same great health coverage! Thank you, Trupanion.

I signed up with Trupanion because they promised no annual increases tied to my pet getting older. That promise was the reason I chose them over other insurers. But now, two years in, they've increased my deductible by 15% two years in a row—despite the fact that I’ve made ZERO claims.
Let that sink in: I’ve cost them nothing. No reimbursements, no treatments, no medications—nothing. And still, they’ve moved the goalposts on what I have to pay before coverage kicks in. And because of how Trupanion structures their policies, once your deductible goes up, there’s no going back without effectively resetting your coverage.
This isn't about inflation or regional costs—this is a company banking on your loyalty and then quietly eroding the value of your plan. And they’re doing it while hiding behind technicalities and small print.
Trupanion positions itself as the honest, transparent choice in pet insurance. In reality, they operate just like everyone else—only worse, because they promise more than they deliver.
If you’re shopping for pet insurance, don’t fall for the marketing spin. Trupanion will take your money, make empty promises, and then ratchet up your costs even if you never file a single claim.
Shameful business practice. I expected better—and your pet deserves better to
Further update - Venessa the case manager phoned me back and now wants to take my rate up even more by 45% now as I have moved addresses in the same city. She then updated my policy without my consent. This company is a total scam, I moved up the street 10 minutes and they this it justifies this big of a rate adjustment.

Horrible company because it makes cancellation process an obstacle course. I adopted a cat and she came with a month of free trupanion insurance, set to auto renew for a $30/month fee. I kept it for a while to make sure she was healthy but then decided to cancel. You can do anything that raises your cost online but to cancel you have to call. First obstacle is getting a real person on the phone which takes far longer and more calls than it should. Second, when you say you want to cancel, they go through a series of questions that are none of their business and you have to keep insisting you just want to cancel. Third, they say they will cancel but then inform you to call again and that your insurance hasn’t been cancelled. Fourth, you now get a person who is even more forceful than the first trying to talk you into keeping it, asking questions that are not appropriate, and you have to be even more forceful that no, you want to cancel. Truly inexcusable cancellation process.

Trupanion does an outstanding job of providing medical insurance for my beloved pup River. She has been insured by them for all of her 8 years. During that time, she has had several medical issues. Trupanion has always been conscientious in assessing each claim. They are fair, compassionate and pleasant to work with. I couldn’t be more satisfied.

My little dog just passed away.
She had numerous health issues being a16 or 17 year old senior dog.
Many ultrasound and numerous x-rays, and frequent blood tests, visits with specialists.
Trupanion covered all of these costs without questions or hesitation.
Also my dog was on 9 diffrent medications some had to be compounded again no questions asked.
They really care about well being of your pets as if they are their own. I'm forever grateful for their compassionate care and professional service.
When time is right for me to adopt another baby
I'll definitely be on board with them again.
I very highly recommend them for your pet insurance.
Thank you again TRUPANION for your service over the years!!!

Wishy washy and did not provide truthful answers! They make it very difficult for you to make claims. It takes almost a month now and still pending for a $120 claim and it doesn’t even go over my deductible yet! We paid $300 premium per month for 2 dogs! Beware and think carefully before you choose them!! Poor customer service and support too and they gave you a run around stories each time and the customer service who talked to you doesn’t have access to the files of the records department!? Unbelievable!

Trupanion has, unlike human insurance companies, always been extremely responsive with excellent customer care and clear policies. At times when I noticed coverage being other than what I expected, they either clearly explained it or processed a fast appeal, giving me money back.

I’ve been with Trupanion for years and now insure my second set of dogs with them. They make filing claims so easy, and reimbursements are fast.
Customer service is always friendly and helpful, and every vet clinic we’ve used speaks highly of them. Trupanion gives me real peace of mind—absolutely worth it!

Insurance scam.
Save your money every month instead of paying them.
I got three pets with them paying 200 a month for three years. Never file a single claim, one day I found my cat has “teeth resorption” issue, they denied my claim, and claim that I past the three month since my vet diagnosed my cat could have that problem. And they said even the claim got approved, half of the claim aren’t covered. You still gotta pay it yourself. It will end up paying 50-60% yourself(inspection fee, teeth cleaning fee, pre surgery inspection fee, deductible fee, 10% of claim)
Come on, Instead of giving you guys money I rather put $200 into my Pet’s Saving account every month.
TRUPANION is totally useless, Paid over $6000 in the past three years for nothing.
