I wish I had seen some of these reviews before I chose Trupanion Pet Insurance years ago. After a previous pet died we were left with some substantial bills from vets and animal hospitals so I thought this would be a good idea when I got a kitten in 2007. Well, after paying thousands and thousands of dollars in premiums, with price increases along the way, she recently died of kidney disease. They found a way to disqualify so many expenses that with their computations and the deductible they finally (after taking their own sweet time) wound up paying me $164. This company is a rip off. Do not, under any circumstances, sign up with them. It's sad enough to lose a pet without the aggravation of dealing with a company like this.

I'll start by saying I've been pleased with the claims and reimbursement process, but that's about where it ends now. I've been a policy holder since 2021, a member out of the state of Florida, and currently have two dogs with policies. To my surprise, I received my renewal notice today with about a 140% increase for one of my dogs. This had to be a Mistake of course, or so I thought. I called and it was Acknowledged by the rep that this definitely sounded like a mistake and I was placed on hold. But it was no mistake, at least not a mistake in my new monthly fee. But indeed a mistake from Trupanion, who by their own testimony state they "didn't get their pricing right" with the Florida policies. Mind you, we've been enrolled since 2021. My other dog has had slight increases over the last two years, $1-$2 maybe. The pricing promise states to expect on average between a 5-10% increase only once every 12 months. Although it doesn't list a maximum they are permitted or allowed to increase, never would I have anticipate a 140% hike. Two hours later I get the email informing me of the "why" they raised the cost. They can't tell me what I'll be looking at for my second dog on policy, not until her renewal is due sometime in April or May. There were so many other options available to me when I was looking into policies initially and now I feel that I've been robbed of any opportunity due to my dogs ages and no telling what would be considered a preexisting condition now with any other companies based on what they've been seen for during their lives at this point. So my options are to deal with it, or cancel and pray for the best. This is truly a disgrace and bad business practice. Fix it moving forward on new policies, not existing ones. Not at 140% increase!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!My fully vaccinated one year old indoor cat who have 42.25 Cad/month insurance premium with Trupanion vomited and showed sign of illness, I booked urgent appointment for next day with vet. Turpanion refused claim , the cat ended up having worms and according to smart A** Trupanion adjustors this is not illness and could have been prevented !Wake up guys ! This is 2023 , you cannot go away with stealing people who pay premium for emergencies like this. I will expose this every where and follow with government regulatory authorities so people know what kind of service you guys are .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great at first but then after the first year, things changed. My premiums went up almost double, and invoices are taking forever to process.

SCAMMER INSURANCE. They are the worst. Don't accept claims. Deny claims for any reason. We have been insured with them since we got our puppy. The y still don't cover anything. And increase cost every 6 months for no reason. Looking to get out of them as soon as possible.

This insurance company is like no other we have ever encountered when it comes to coverages and claims responsibility they are in my humble opinion simply without equal! And, I am not speaking of pet insurance specifically'! Sadly, the auto and homeowners insurance companies are simply inefficient, bungling and totally lacking empathy.Take the financial decisions out of pet care decisions; purchase a TruPanion policy!

This company has received over $8000 from me for the past 10 years and they still won't cover my dogs allergy shots. This is a condition that should have already reached a deductible for. I am confused as to why I keep paying $75/month for them to pay me nothing. Essentially I'm just tossing $75 at the wind. Keep your money and just put in a savings account.

They did an amazing job covering my puppy with a whole bunch of unexpected illnesses & injuries. Long story short, he had a pineal infection and parasite AND needed exploratory surgery. I found all this out in one ER visit I originally went for because of his diarrhea. Trupanion saved us big time, and I would now recommend it to ANYONE with young animals. They paid $3,000 of the bill. Excellent, and it was a very easy, straightforward process. Simply gave the ER my policy number, and Trupanion paid it before I even checked out. I have the 85% payout for my pup. They covered the Meds, X-Rays, Diagnostic tests, surgery, and hospital stay. They were well worth their prices. I researched which pet insurance I wanted my babies on, and this one is well worth it! 10/10 recommend. My pup got discharged today and did really well in surgery & is now recovering. Thanks to this pet insurance.

We have 4 dogs and a cat and they are all insured by Trupanion. Trupanion USED to be good. We would have the peace of mind that if something happened to our pets...we would be covered. Know it doesn't cover preventative shots and exam fees but wanted it for when our pets got sick or hurt. Our husky broke a bone in his paw and that was covered back in 2015. Trupanion used to be a great service with a staff that loved pets.Things have changed. Now there is greedy leadership that will deny claims any chance they get. You will hear the word "pre-existing" used for almost anything and some of their reasoning is just pathetic reaches. They flat out do NOT want to pay a claim unless they absolutely have to. Look at the company's stock...it has plummeted from $155/share now down to $20/share in like a year...and I definitely can see why. They lost their way. When you call in it is so chaotic no dialogue between departments you can tell. Can tell by listening to the agents voices they just hate their jobs.We still have the coverage but will not get Trupanion in the future for our next pets and I would NOT recommend them to anyone. I used to recommend them to everyone. Sad how things changed there. Only time it might be good is if you insured your pet the moment they are born with a breeder code where the coverage instantly goes into effect. That might make the pre-existing excuse go away.Otherwise I just wouldn't trust you actually will be covered when/if that time comes where you get a big, unexpected Vet bill.

Here we are, almost 16 years after getting the insurance, and we finally had to put our beloved dog to sleep. Trupanion was a valuable part of our lives. I never had problems with claims and all reasonable bills were paid. Yes, the cost of our insurance went up every year, and so did the costs of our aging dog. Over the years, Trupanion paid out more than $15,000 in claims for our dog, per our vet. They even paid on the euthanasia as it was due to cancer. I am sure we will get other dogs, and Trupanion will remain part of our care plan.
