Beware: If you purchase something online and try exchange it in store, you will not be able to. They will send you an e gift card that you need an account to activate and then you will have to purchase the item online.
The manager seemed pretty confident that this was normal. I told him Crate and Barrel wouldn’t have hiccuped at this, and he said he knows 5 managers at crate and barrel and they always have registry issues because of “the knot”. But I ordered directly through Williams Sonoma, so Williams Sonoma is causing their own problems. If I ordered through Crate and Barrel, it would have been a breeze, confirmed by the nice lady working there.
Bad policies, and a manager that really believes in them.

Bill was the best! He gave us great advice for how to pull a great shot and steam milk. He was really honest with us - not just trying to sell us the priciest machine (“these upgrades are worth it, these are not”). He also made us an amazing latte - much better than what he get at the cafes. Williams Sonoma is great - Bill is even better!

Great store for quality kitchenware and stylish home goods. Prices are on the higher side, but sales pop up occasionally. Excellent customer service and well-designed products make it a go-to for cooking enthusiasts!

I made a purchase yesterday ant the University Village location, and asked for a gift receipt because the item was intended as a holiday gift. It was printed out for me. Went back to the store today to return it—having found a more suitable gift—only to be told the item was non-returnable as it was a clearance item! Imagine my surprise! There was no “Clearance” sign anywhere near the item display shelf, and no way for customers to know clearance items were not returnable! I then asked if I could exchange for store credit—it’s the point of gift receipt after all—but the request was denied as well, on the ground that it was non-refundable clearance.
I asked to speak to the manager, who said the same thing, and that the policy was printed on the receipt! How do you expect customers to know this before making the purchase? And once the sale was made, it became non-returnable! The store sets itself up in a situation that is confusing for customers, doesn’t make sense, and can not explain itself!
Long story short, he refunded me in the end, but insisted there was no issue on store’s part. I did not argue with him. I thanked him for returning the item for me, and left the store. So, heads-up for fellow shoppers: ASK IF YOUR ITEM IS RETURNABLE BEFORE MAKING THE PURCHASE! Or you would have the same experience I had to go through when you return it.

I placed an online order to pick up at the UVillage store. Got an email that my order was ready. When I went to pick it up, the store associates couldn't find it. Three of them went to look. They kept asking if the order could have been under a different name, even after I said no several times. Nobody offered any alternative, such as checking whether the items I ordered are still available in the store. After 15 minutes I had to leave for an appointment so I had to cancel the order since it still hadn't been found. None of the associates apologized for misplacing the order and wasting my time.

Horrible company. Horrible customer service.
First and last time ever shopping with them. I read the bad reviews and ignored it, I hoped they were isolated incidents. Don’t spend your money here. Not worth the headache. This is from someone who hardly ever takes the time to write reviews.

William Sonoma Online shopping was an awful experience.. We ordered a Diwali gift basket and it was supposed to be delivered the day before Diwali. It’s now the day after Diwali and it still has not been delivered.
The food we ordered will probably have gone stale by now..
What gives?
