“Big John’s is a Seattle institution, with the best specialty cheese selection I know of, hard-to-find Italian meats, and an unbeatable bulk spice selection. (as well as one for flours/grains & chocolate) They’re the ultimate destination for affordable import wines as well, and a massive quantity of pantry items.

However, I will note that Big John’s PFI’s selection is mostly items from Southern & Western Europe. This is not a detractor at all, but if you’re someone like me who often shops for Eastern European goods specifically, you may not find what you’re looking for. That said, it’s still well worth a trip & I guarantee you won’t leave empty-handed.”

“Fantastic spot to satisfy your craving for Bavarian smoked meat! You get an awesome deal—five packs of ten mini sticks for just $25. In the back, there’s an “ends and pieces” section that gives you even more beef for your buck. The factory store sits in a strip mall near IKEA in Renton, and it’s absolutely worth the stop. They even have a deli if you’re in the mood for a hot dog, chips, and a drink. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful.”

“The smell of freshly baking bread is a delight. They've got a tandoor and when you buy some of the Afghan bread he pulls you a fresh one out of the tandoor that is piping hot. They've got some spices, raisins, currants, and nuts for sale too. Their grocery selection is a bit sparse and their hours are seemingly erratic but the bread is delicious and the baker seems to be a nice fellow. The price for the bread is pretty cheap as well.”

“Bob's was the only butcher I could find in the city that had salt pork. It was well worth the 45 minute trip from Ballard (with the holiday traffic). I bought 3lbs of the salt pork so I could avoid the trip the next couple of times I make baked beans.

I go to Geraldine's pretty regularly, so I'd seen Bob's before, but never been in. I was pretty impressed with their selection and the number of niche items they offered. It was a bit hectic inside, but it was two days before thanksgiving, so that's understandable.

Going forward Bob's is going to be my go-to when my neighborhood butcher doesn't have what I need.”

“Their curry ketchup is to DIE for!!

They actually refunded the packaging fees for bottles of ketchup ( without me asking them). Other businesses would have pocketed the money so I appreciate the proactive honesty.”

“Rain Shadow Meats has the most delicious and freshest options for meat with competitive pricing. They also carry a variety of other items, such as local organic garlic and onions and heirloom tomatoes that actually taste like how tomatoes used to taste (real) at affordable prices too! Nika ordered a specific type of cut of meat for me that was out of stock the other day and I bought it today. She said I could call ahead for any requests, and they could stock pantry or grocery per my request! It’s amazing to have a small local grocer/butcher in the neighborhood that can cater to your needs. They also have a fridge that has things like soup, chili, and marcona almonds, among other items.”

“If you want to find great I mean really good tacos and food this place here is it. Soooo gooood and cheesey they didn't skimp on the meat or the cheese it was perfect. The restaurant is located in a store so you can also go shopping while you wait every one that worked there was kind and that's always nice. There were some loud kids so I could see how if you wanted a quiet lunch you'd just have to eat in your car. ....and for their food I would definitely do that it was so good.”

“This store is pretty cool since it's an Asian store combined with a Mexican store. You can find most of Mexican popular items and Asian ones. As for the produce here my only complaint is that some of the items where spoiled. But other than that this place is on of my fav”

“Such a gem! The guy who helped me was very friendly and was surprised that I was looking for lengua lol! I need to come here more often. I only stopped by because they were open earlier than the other place I usually go to. Glad I found this spot. Can wait to go back and try other cuts of fresh meat.”

“Sanity in a mug! After a frustrating day I was introduced to some good local wine by the glass and bought a tasty sandwich. You can sit in and enjoy watching the world go by. As a bewildered Brit I did not understand my way around the coffee menu but the staff were able to explain!”

“YUM. Our new taco place forsure. The flavor on all of the meats is unbeatable in the area. Especially the carne asada. My husband loves the burrito as well. They don't skimp on the portions either. The only thing we haven't been impressed by were the tamales. Everything else has been so good. Mulitas, tacos, burrito, rice, and beans.”

“Be vigilant in the last mile when driving here.. my GPS tried to make me turn on some stupid roads with construction that is bad for trucks. It seems the issue is my GPS thought Auburn way isn't a truck route, but it is. If you're coming down 277th, turn right onto Auburn Way, than another right onto 30th st NE. Be careful when taking this right, as you'll need to button hook as far left as you can before taking the right. Then, It will be the 2nd Plymouth entrance on the left. It's clearly marked as a truck entrance.
As far as overnight parking, the google earth overview would have you think a lot of trucks can park in the very back, but this is no longer the case. They have signs everywhere in the back saying no truck parking, and one of these camera and flashing light poles.
Like a few others have said, there's room for 3 trucks along the fence near the airport. Also there's a few blank dock doors that I bet you could get away with parking in, towards the back. Either way, this is one of those properties that a driver could get creative in and make a space somewhere.
Call the number to check in.
Backing doesn't look that tight, but its a little misleading. Probably get out and look here. The curb and airport fence will sneak up fast to your bind side if you don't set up properly.
Unloading was ok. They will come out and break your seal, and tell you when to open doors. When they are finished, they will tell you the lumper cost.”

“This store is a hidden gem for sure. Great people working here. Very clean and well smelling for a meat shop. Doesn’t have that like weird smell when you enter a shop. I met the owner today. Absolutely great guy! I believe his sister was here last time I was here, very helpful and nice! The marinated chicken is absolutely to die for. The owner says they have a few new flavors coming in and the 2 he gave me today are straight ?. The customer service here is actually 5 star. They got me on lock for sure will definitely keep coming here!!!”

“I've felt like the store has improved in 2024 specially since the halal meat options are extensive (probably the most for the Seattle area) and now have better availability. The store is also better organized now vs before. Best part is that there's a musalla. Sometimes the TV or music can be needlessly loud though - however, that's not a big problem for me. Parking is ample.”
