Extremely unprofessional and disappointing experience.
After years of working with this accounting firm, paying thousands to get my books in order, and trusting them to handle my filings, I’m now facing huge penalties because of their lack of communication and follow-through. Emails and calls have gone unanswered for months, and when I finally pressed for answers, they suddenly claimed a “conflict of interest” because they now work with a realtor in my firm — the same former partner they’ve worked with all along!
They had no issue helping dissolve our partnership and switch me from an LLC to an S-Corp (and charging premium fees for it) without any mention of conflict then. Now, when I need accountability for the delays and missing documentation, they refuse to assist. I have no copies of my filings or confirmation of what was even submitted.
I’ll also add that the receptionist is extremely rude, never follows through with call backs or delivers messages, and the owner and her staff are terrible at returning calls or emails. The lack of professionalism across the entire office is truly unacceptable.
This experience has been costly, frustrating, and incredibly unprofessional. I would strongly caution anyone considering using them for business or tax services.

Jennifer has been the best! We will continue to use her as long as she will have us, she is truly one of the most knowledgeable ladies I know. Kristi in her office has always been helpful, and polite. I had no idea how many more deductions we were qualified to take and I truly appreciate everything she has done for us.

I would give negative stars if I could. Jennifer did our taxes in 2017 and then we got audited by the irs because she made us primary residence in 2 different states. When confronted she told us to keep fighting the irs because we were in the right. Which caused us to get more penalties and interest. Then she stopped returning or calls and emails. She is someone not to do business with. The same thing happened to a couple of other friends that used her as well. DO NOT USE HER.
Edit: That is what happened and when we showed you the documents you said you would pay us for your mistake. Then you stopped responding to us. If you would like to make it right like you said you would I would appreciate it.

I wholeheartedly recommend Jennifer for your tax services. My family and I have been coming to Jennifer for YEARS now. She is absolutely incredible at what she does. She makes a painful experience manageable. Everyone my mom has referred to has gotten more money back in taxes than in years prior utilizing different services. Jennifer is highly skilled and knowledgeable in her expertise, and profound in maximizing your returns. She helps provide advice while offering friendly conversation; and charges extremely reasonable rates.

Edit 5/24: Owner: Yes, I am certain I am a client.Edit 5/12/2021 drop to 3 stars from 5. Three years in, things are slipping. Missed filings and penalties, Q1 2021 941. Confusion in how to handle my account: I've been asked by staff what entities they're going to be handling. Nothing has changed on my end. Client since 2018.Original, 5 stars: Jennifer Rosenleib is my third accountant. She's the first to truly pay attention to my account, understand my situation, and understand my goals.

I worked with Jennifer at Checked and Balance for a couple of years. That was, until she told me they didn't want me as a client because I asked too many questions. Huh? She was actually annoyed when I had questions related to my bookkeeping and my taxes. Seemed she like being in business, except for having to deal with clients. Initially, I was told that was part of the service.. not just doing books and taxes. You pay a lot. To get help with questions seems reasonable enough, but that wasn't the case with C&B. Looked elsewhere and found a great small business that actually cares about their clients. Much better fit.

My husband and I were referred to Jennifer by one of his co-workers. Our first meeting with her was to file our 2017 tax return. My husband had quite a few write offs because we traveled for his work. Jennifer was very nice and personable. We felt like she did a good job of covering the ins and outs of his job relating to our taxes and we left feeling taken care of and relieved to have help walking us through a complicated tax return and returned to file our 2018 tax return with her also. In 2019 we received a notice from the IRS that we were being audited for our 2017 tax return. It was such a mess as we had so many write offs and had to do a lot of work getting the IRS the information they wanted. I contacted Jennifer as soon as we got notice of our audit asking for her help through this process. We were told by friends and family that we would learn the true quality of her services by how she responded to this. Would she walk along side us and help us through the process or would she neglect to help. She was extremely difficult to get a hold of by phone and email. When she would respond she wasn't much help at all. She was unwilling to meet with us and even one response she thought we were a different couple and gave us information about that couples tax return, very unprofessional. She was ABSOLUTELY NO help. We ended up having to pay the IRS $7,000. Jennifer was unwilling to pay any of the fines and penalties. Then when my husband and I filed our 2019 tax return we were referring to our 2017 tax return to get our children's SSN's.... when we submitted our returns (state and federal) they kept coming back with errors so I dug deeper. I found their SS cards and discovered she entered completely WRONG SSN's for both our children on our 2017 tax return. NO WONDER OUR RETURN WAS RED FLAGGED! My husband reached out to her again letting her know of this mistake and asking to talk to her in hopes she would take some responsibility for her error and we have yet to hear back from her. So I'm writing this review to warn any of you who are thinking of using her to file your taxes. She may be great if there are no mistakes but in our experience there was a HUGE mistake and she unfortunately has done NOTHING to correct it, costing us thousands of dollars. I do NOT recommend her services. If Jennifer would have walked us through the auditing process, stood by us, and took responsibility for her mistakes this review would be completely different.

About 2 years ago I walked into Checked & Balance by a friend referral. Their staffs are very friendly. Jennifer is the accountant helped me through my tax return. She is very talented, professional and knowledgeable. She has always completed our tax forms with professional care and attention to detail. She is up to speed with all the tax law and provided some good insight into next year's tax planning. HIGHLY recommend to anyone in the Vancouver, WA area.

Finally! We finally found our accountant! Jennifer is the BEST! We had no idea just how messed up our books were until Jennifer was recommended by a client. She has helped us more in the last year than any other accountant in the last 15 years. She is always so helpful & she makes things easy to understand. I would highly recommend Jennifer to anyone!
