Washougal River Mercantile is a beloved family-owned store that has been serving the community since 1917. Despite recent changes in ownership, it continues to maintain its friendly, small-town atmosphere and family feel. The store offers a wide range of products, including basic groceries, produce, fresh meats, and everyday essentials like hardware, auto supplies, and emergency items. Visitors appreciate its well-stocked shelves and the variety of unique and hard-to-find items, reminiscent of traditional country stores. The store also features a deli with tasty burgers, sandwiches, and take-and-bake pizzas, along with a meat counter offering chicken, pork, beef, and specialty items like bacon-wrapped asparagus and tenderloins. For outdoor enthusiasts, the mercantile provides propane, fuel, ice, tackle, a gun shop operated part-time by a nephew, and the ability to purchase fishing and hunting licenses, discovery passes, and passes to nearby attractions like Naked Falls. The staff is known for their friendly customer service, creating a welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike. While some mention the store’s popularity can lead to outsiders entering disrespectfully, the community values the store’s role as a local gathering spot and a place that feels like home. Overall, Washougal River Mercantile is a charming, versatile store that offers a little bit of everything, preserving its old-school, family-owned charm.

The Merc has evolved in the 30 years I've lived in the area. The staff exemplary! Food delicious! They carry a bit of everything to get you out of a jam, saving a 12 mile trip into town. Gas and propane too!
