I inquired over the phone about some material for a project and found them to be rather rude and unhelpful.

Probably One of the greatest businesses I've ever dealt with. Solid people, great attitude, easy to do business with.

Brent was great and full of info. I called asking questions about the Alaskan Yellow Cedar I purchased. I called the wrong place. I'm not even their customer! This guy was more helpful than the people we bought from.

I contacted Bear Creek to order cedar and was sent an invoice for about $2000 for 250 board feet of Alaska yellow cedar including $256 for shipping. I sent a check for the entire amount. When the lumber had not arrived after 3 weeks I was told there would be an additional charge of about $300 for shipping and was told I had been sent an email advising me of the higher shipping charge (not true). I found this unacceptable and told them to cancel the order and return my payment. When the refund had not arrived I called again and was told the check would go out in the next two days. When that did not arrive I got another story, also false. I still have not been refunded and would not do business with this company under any circumstances.

Great people, great services, and beautiful products. Sometimes you just gotta to go there to smell the wood.

Received $4000 worth of Engineer specified, 'Structural Select' quality fir for a historic restoration to NJ all the way from WA. 22 ft structural joists. Crew waiting and money burning. Extensive emails with Joe Hammer were exchanged to be totally, absolutely, completely certain we would get Structural Select which is The Best, better than no 1 quality. No large splits are allowed, no unsound knots, or twisting, etc. All wood grading from other sites is consistent including Bear Creeks own web site, defining SS as the best timber grade. Long running splits are not allowed in structural wood since split wood can't be load rated. Select, of course, denotes selecting the best quality, and is universally understood. Got suckered by Joe Hammer's friendly demeanor, he reassured me numerous times, in writing, of the quality I would get for my project's Structural Requirements since I was painstakingly specific and adamant about my structural needs. After wasting 4 weeks, we got a pile of useless garbage with splits running the entire length of almost every board. Several were twisted and unusable for even non load application. All were warped, or twisted. Splits Everywhere, all the way down the length, and big knots. Boards even had split knots running 1/3 straight across the boards. The wood was suitable for decoration only, for structure, it would be a life threatening disaster. I sent Bear Creek videos showing the defects in the entire length of boards. Joes response was to argue that Structural Select allows heavy splits and defects of this kind, and that I'm mistaken, and refused a return. Owners of Bear Creek, copied duirng the email blizzard had nothing to say. Bear Creek lumber has caused great distress to our budget and project time. Their product was a complete misrepresentation and fraud. One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

Make sure what you're buying they actually have in-stock and on the ground. We were told they had our product, but after depositing our check we were told the only way we could get our material would be to pay an additional $5,000+ to get a different product that would meet our deadline or we would have to wait an additional month. Very unprofessional.

Spent $2000 for some Western Red Cedar to be shipped to me. 15% of it was in lengths shorter than what I asked for. About 30% of it was waste - so badly gashed as to be worthless. I emailed photos of damaged boards. The worst part is the sales guy (Gregg) and the owner of the company (Sy) didn't care enough to offer any discount. Pretty lousy experience.
