I was traveling through Washington State on vacation in a rental car, and the battery died. I could not turn the car off without having to get a jump. This already happened when I was at Washington Pass, 30 miles from anywhere with no cell service. It was a scary situation, and I was lucky a stranger helped me. I found North Star Automotive Repair on Google and drove right there. The owner, Kyle, was anxious to help, but did not have the correct battery in stock, and it was almost 5pm. He told me where to get the battery and promised to stay open until I got back. I drove to the next town, Twisp, got the battery and drove back to Kyle (without turning the car off). He promptly installed the new battery and checked everything. It's two days later and the car starts every time. Thank You, Kyle. You are a Saint.-Chris

I called Kyle and got right in for an oil change. He got the car back to me promptly and reviewed what he did and what needed to be done at my next service. Friendly, professional and a pleasure to do business with. Could not be happier!

Honest, super helpful, and reasonable. Even tried to help find us someone to work on our darn Mini when it ended up being a specialty fix.

My car broke down on Highway 20 heading home from camping. I called a few repair shops in the valley and was referred to North Star Automotive Repair. They gave me the name of a reputable towing company and said I could have my vehicle towed to their shop even though they were booked with appointments through the end of the month. Shan came and picked me up in the next town over, Twisp, and even helped me find a fairly inexpensive hotel room for the night until someone could come pick me up the next day. Even though they were extremely busy they said they would try to take a look at it in the next few days. I was expecting to wait a week or more before hearing anything, but I received a call the following day letting me know they had taken a look at my Volkswagen and determined the heater core had failed. The folks at North Star were able to bypass the system and get it running that day! I can't begin to express how much I appreciate all the help and care they provided. If I lived in the Okanagan valley this would definitely be my go to repair shop. Thanks for everything!

On a winter ski trip to Wintrop, our 2005 Subaru Forester started going into high revs when we put the manual transmission into neutral. It was undrivable that way. We nursed it to the shop and Kyle got to it that day and diagnosed the problem. The part had to come from California, but when he got it, he immediately installed it. He was spot-on with his diagnosis (bad accelerator pedal sensor) and his charges were very fair and reasonable. I highly recommend his shop.

Beware! They charge a minimum for 'diagnosis' of $100. You will get a thorough write up of all of the functions of your car. Brakes, battery, oil life, coolant levels, etc. Even if you brought it in for something entirely different. I brought my car in and was quoted one price. I agreed. When I arrive to pay, I was told that price didn't include the diagnostic hour that was spent on my vehicle and the woman proceeded to 'add the two, separate bills together' . Coming out to over $100 more than the quote.I feel pretty swindled and I have been to a lot of mechanics. Unfortunately, this is one who may have the skills of a mechanic, but somewhat more questionable ethics. If you can, I suggest you go elsewhere.UPDATE (8/21/19) :Unfortunately, I believe the owner of this “business” has incorrectly identified me, or is actually lying about me for no apparent reason beyond a negative google review of his business. The claims of my being evicted are ridiculous, I have never been evicted and I have zero outstanding debts in the valley or elsewhere. The further claims of “my co-workers not have good things to say” are also either a mistaken identity, or again, unfortunately a complete fabrication. I implore you to provide just one reference. To be clear, I communicated my frustrations with your estimate and added charges with your secretary on two occasions. She said she spoke with you and that you were unwilling to reimburse me for the double charge. My friend and landlord was so upset by what you did, he went to you and called you out on being shady and it appeared that you wanted to at least keep his business and gave him a check for me. I appreciate your gesture and admission of a wrongful charge, but it also took almost a month and I did not think to amend my review to reflect that. For which, I do apologize. However, slandering me as a person and creating stories about me(over 2 years later) to suit your own needs and narrative on your business’s page is pretty low. Let me know how that works out.

Drove from Winthrop to Lake Omak. Car wouldn't start while out at the lake. Took hours to get back into cell coverage and work it all out. When it finally did start, we drove it back to Winthrop and found North Star. Super friendly. Great rates. Fast Service. He had us going again within 24 hours. He did some extra work on the car at no additional cost. When I asked around town, everybody said this was the place to go. Happy to give them the nod if you are stuck in Winthrop.

Visiting from Seattle and had just had our car serviced by our neighborhood mechanic. Noticed a strong burning smell coming from our car and was worried a break down would derail our much overdue weekend away...I called as soon as they opened at 9am and they said to bring our car in. Kyle came out right away, listened to my concerns and my (very innacurrate) guess about what was wrong. We were invited into their office, a quick diagnosis was made and a simple fix was done--our local mechanic hadn't fully tightened the oil filter which led to a small oil leak and the burning smell. Kyle even came in to talk with us and helped entertain our kids (both under age 4) while they finished up the repair and we were back on the road in under 30 minutes. Very thankful for their help!

Kyle and the others at this shop are definitely trustworthy. Highly recommended. I think the couple negative reviews may have been misunderstandings. We've used this shop since right after they opened and have always had great service and fair pricing.

Took in my Tundra for 100K service. Would highly recommend this shop. Kyle even recommended not to perform some tasks I asked for because they were not necessary! They care about quality, fix it once repairs and repeat customers. Very friendly.
