Several weeks ago I went to Safeway and there were no cashers. I was able to go to the service desk and get checked out. Today there were no cashers and no one at the service desk.I am not receiving casher pay to self-check out so I abandoned my cart and left.I will not be shopping in Safeway any more. Too bad as I had been a Safeway customer since the mid 1960's.

Worst Safeway store probably in Washington. I wish there were a "Grocery Nightmares" program so this store could be on it. They always have just ONE manned checkout stand open (if you're lucky), and it always has a different cashier who CANNOT cope with any kind of problem. One time I was there and an obvious addict was ahead of me. Every time the male cashier rang up a product she questioned the price and he kept going back to check. Really, no training on how to handle difficult customers/scammers? So they force you to go to self checkout and you can't get it to work and the worker who is supposed to help you is off screwing around. The only upside to this is that they are not watching you check out and I'll bet there is a lot of theft due to failure to ring up items, indifferent staff and iffy location. All this is expected, but Safeway also has the worst prices in town. The only reason I go here at all is that they move product so slowly that you can often find things that the other stores in town have run out of. So: Minuses: prices are high, incompetent staff that don't want to help you, and they make you do your own checkout. Pluses: Easy to steal from. Bottom line: Shop at your own risk.

I shopped here for 18 years. The store was walking distance to my house. We will let our kids walk to the store. I knew a lot of the regular employees there who were helpful and friendly, especially Ron. My nephew started working there and unfortunately, he hated me and was able to get me barred from shopping there. No trespass warning or anything like that just personal hatred. I called the police about it and they said they could meet me there but it never happened. I personally called the Director of the store who did not listen to me but hung up on me. I wrote the company an email and never got a response. I was in grocery for 30 years and I've never seen such terrible customer service from management. I talked to the Union Gap Safeway manager who said I was welcome to shop there.

As a diabetic who has to work at maintaining his glucose level (low levels are a constant struggle), I've found that their cornbread is not only delicious, but I can also guage just how much it will take to boost it from hypoglycemia to what it should be without taking me to hyperglycemia.

I want to make it very clear that I shop mostly at Safeway despite all the usual issues like not enough checkouts manned. This review is totally about the condition of the parking lot after winter snow. I refer to the one on 24th and Nob Hill and S. 1st st. I have a handicap and must use a handicap space. A couple of day after a snow storm I went to Safeway and found that the parking lot had not been adequately cleared and had mounds of compacted ice and snow. Even the handicap spaces had been miserably cleared. It was unsafe to get out of my car so I had to find any space that looked doable. I did talk to a manager....didn't get the feeling he cared. Same thing for the one on 1st. Until the snow melted I shopped elsewhere and I am not a total Safeway shopper anymore.

They no longer have bismarks donuts and all the donuts have gotten smaller for the same or higher prices.
