TLDR: neglectful workers. Thoroughly check pets up for adoption and ask tons of questions. My kitten was too young to be adopted and was sick. They got his age wrong and lied about issues with him.Very conflicted with this review. I don’t want to say bad things about a shelter but it needs to be said. Check your animals for fleas before you bring them home, make sure they’ve been de wormed and have all they need to be adopted. My kitten was very sick when I brought him home. He was infested with fleas and worms and we couldn’t bond with him like we should because we had to seclude him from our other cat and clean up messes. The workers won’t take accountability and do very little to get cats adopted out. A lot of cats have been there for months and years. Several cats had eye infections and the tiny room they’re in reeks. Litter boxes are barely scooped and there are messes all on the floor. The workers there are not very helpful. It’s just all around a mess. There could be so much potential in that place if people cared.

Conditions could be better. Found a kitten we had to take back the 85$ deposit which 50$ of it was to get the cat fixed which should been returnable was not. The lady was really rude as well. My expectations was since the cat isn't our responsibility to spade anymore we should get the 50$ back not the 15$ adoption fee.

There is no room at the inn. Walked a stray dog my ex-wife had mistakenly thought she was able to care for properly to the facility on Dry Flats Road from Woodlawn Ave only to find out they were at maximum capacity. Maybe they should publicize that fact on their Google search results so people don't waste their time. Maybe there should be a time limit on how long a dog is able to be housed there before being euthanized. While they spend time "categorizing" the various temperaments of the dogs living there, which may or may not assist in finding them homes, they might want to focus on getting rid of the ones whose possibility of "homing" properly is almost nil. The stray dog I brought to them would probably be one of them because he is an Alpha male dependent human biting devil dog. If I had a big yard with a privacy fence & a good shock collar setup, I wouldn't get rid of him. But I don't, and neither do I care to care for his fate beyond basic feeding & watering. It's a dog, not a child, and since my time in Korea back in the mid 1980's, my personal view of pets is that they are nothing more than furry domesticated chickens. Read that and weep. As you wish. Humans FTW.

Between not taking animals (I had no choice but to "release" kittens back outside only to have someone intentionally poison them!) and refusing to even post found pets on their Facebook page (a stray dog showed up this Spring and a cat was likely dumped a few weeks ago, but i was trying to find his family on the off chance he was lost - neither were posted) this is the least helpful "shelter" I have ever dealt with!I donate to Loved At Last Cat Community and Operation Underdog when I can. These are much more humane organizations!!

It was awful, my boyfriend had found some kittens on the side of the road, so he took them there and they refused to take them, they told him to take them back were he found them and dump them. This is a humane society? They need to be shut down. Don't donate to them. Find a local rescue to donate to, not these people. Just awful

They don't want to adopt animals here. It's a shame with so many needing adoption. Go elsewhere to find your furry friend

I WAS TOLD THEY CAN'T TAKE CATS NOW? I GOOGLED ANIMAL SHELTERS AND THE LAWFUL SITUATION IS: THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DENY ANIMALS AT SHELTERS. So is it true you will not except kittens, cats etc. I'm sure donations will drop once reported. So tell me have you stopped? Perhaps WVVA should investigate a lot of SHELTERS, basically start visiting unexpected. But answers need given'.Appreciate it.

It's be better if they'd actually let you see their dogs. I don't know many people that want to choose a dog solely based on appearance. They have you select a dog from a computer screen before you can see it. It's just sad. I feel like more adoptions would happen if you could see the dogs.
