Worst experience, I thought to go with my family to the Clay Center. That was a bad decision. In the Waterworks a 12 year old girl was so rude and wouldn't allow me to change the water flow. Her parents called us names and the gard who works there wants to kick us out, because the parents who are attorneys played the victim. We will never go back and tell our family and friends about it.

Might be good for children but they don’t make it clear that it is good for anyone else. The last show at the planetarium had already started, which they didn’t tell us about until after we bought the ticket. They didn’t refund us once we realized the place was only good for children and the planetarium was closed. Tickets were also expensive at $12 for an adult.

Love the little kids town on the bottom floor. It really does feel like a little town. Kids love all the things they can do in the neighborhood and town. They have a bunch of educational things and stuff to do. The Waterworks is probably the most popular, for a good reason. They have a bunch of things to explore and play with in there. I love that they have aprons, a sink, and a hand dyer all in that same room for less of a mess. The art museum on the top floor is worth looking at if you like art. If you go there expect a bunch of kids to be in the art museum though. The reason I gave this a three star is because a lot of things. Most of the stuff in the kids area is stolen (which is expected). A few things are broken in the kids area, like I said earlier are not rare. The workers really can't control all of the stuff that happens. Worth the experience, would recommend going. Just sanitize and wash your hands after going.

I've tried reaching out via email and Facebook for information. I can see that they have read my message but can't be bothered to write back.

I have only worked here once for the Jesus Christ Superstar show; but overall I had a good time. It's floor layout is simple so it's hard to get lost, they obviously host fun and memorable events, and the ambiance is very light and gives happy go lucky vibes.P.S.- I apologize for my 2 not so good pictures, generally I try to take 1 at the start of setting up and another when we finish, but this show was very fast paced so I didn't get a lot of chances to capture the "Theater Magic"

Very disappointed. More than half of the exhibits aren't working. I alerted staff and they shrugged it off. This was our first time and last.

We were passing through on a road trip and decided to let our 7 year old play here. The people at the front desk were super nice. Great selection of things to play with. Would definitely recommend!!!

Brought my 5 and 6 year old and they never wanted to leave. There's a great mix of activities, and the staff is lovely, kind and helpful. The water section and climbing structure were particular favorites.

The clay center used to be so cool, but now it's kind of a let down. The water play area doesn't have any sort of interaction anymore, they got rid of the Legos to build the dams with, boats are missing, very few balls left, most of it doesn't even work. Even the Adirondack chairs are gone and replaced with a few uncomfortable benches. My Town used to be great too, but now everything is missing or broken. The grocery store is missing over half of its food and one of the registers doesn't work, the electrical room doesn't have enough pipes or bolts to build anything with, the vet only had one stethoscope and just a few animals, the toddler area had a few half eaten foam blocks and looked dirty. It wouldn't even cost a lot to buy some more stuffed animals, vet kits, dress up clothes for the theater, play food, Legos for the dams, etc. The inventor's lab is fairly new though and the kids liked that and the climbing structure. The concerts here are nice but I guess they don't make enough revenue to give some TLC to the rest of the building.

My son is on the spectrum and it's been a struggle to find a place that he was comfortable and felt safe enough to fully immerse himself into playing full throttle without holding back or getting deterred from letting lose. This place was beyond what I expected and the staff was so understanding and patient with us. It made the whole experience an answered prayer!!. I'm thankful for this memory with my son, tears of happinesses were most definitely shed. WE WILL BE BACK SOON AS WE CAN!!

All I can say is that this place is absolutely amazing! The kids loved every single minute we were there! They didn’t want to even sit still to eat lunch! Lol! We packed a lunch and ate in the cafeteria area. We saw a movie in the theater. Sit in the back if you go. My neck was sore & I sat in the front. Lol! I kept looking up & around. The back row seats are the best view. Take your kids & enjoy all day!

The clay center is located in the center of the city but with less crowded. Parking lots are located adjacent to the main building which is close enough to walk. Though it’s a paid parking it costs us $3 per day. The museum is good to spend and learn about water, human body, painting collections, learning about the grocery store, fire truck, bank , house construction etc… a day to spend on the museum with kids and enjoy the paintings.

The best place to take young children in Charleston, WV.Let's start by getting the obvious out of the way, ratings are relative, it's all based on what your other options are. If I was reviewing the Clay Center in a major large city (like Tampa/Houston/SF/etc.) I'd give it three stars. However, for Charleston, WV this is a solid five stars. I've been coming to WV once to twice a year since I met my husband eleven years ago. Since then we have two children, ages two and four. What I don't understand is how every year since my oldest child could walk (around age one) and now that nobody has ever recommended the Clay Center to me. Heck, even on this trip it just happened we were driving past it and my head swiveled around when I saw a huge banner with children playing on it. I incredulously said to my husband, "is that a children's museum?". We majorly struggle to find things to do in Charleston when visiting his family. Pretty much we spend the whole time with family, but that doesn't really cut it when you have two young children who want to run around a bit. Now that I know this exists, we will come here every single time we visit. Parking is to the left of the building when you're facing it. It's $3 for parking. Then admission is free for two and under. I think it came out to a little over $30 for two adults, a four year old and a (free) two year old. The floor you enter has a music area, a body movement area, and an innovation space. We were there at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday and it was pretty empty. When we go to the children's museum in Tampa it is packed, so this was a welcome surprise. The woman working in the innovation space was super nice, she gave my youngest feathers and coffee filters to shove in the wind tunnel to watch it get shot into the air. My son played with legos and built a car to run down a ramp. The downstairs area has a lot of pretend play including a theater, mechanic shop, pizza shop, grocery shopping, fire truck, etc. The kids had a blast and it's nice that the parents can just sit and relax since it is a relatively small area and all the pretend play areas open into a center area. It's very well designed so you don't lose your kids. There is a third art floor, but from reviews it seemed to be geared towards older kids/adults so we never ventured up there. We easily spent two hours here and then had to leave for nap. There is an area where you can sit and eat, but there wasn't a place to buy food. I'm not sure if that's cafe is normally open, but the cafe on the floor where you enter looked like it was under construction. Don't go out of your way to visit here, but if you happen to be in Charleston WV and have young children, this is a great place to spend time.
