We financed with this company and we have regretted it from almost day one. It took almost a year to close because the person handling our account sat on it and did not work on it for months. The closest to homeless I hope to ever be. We were told to go ahead and sell our current house because we would be closing in a couple of weeks and that everything was ready. Nine months later we were still living at our church. Once in the home almost every month we had issues making our house payment. They have misplaced our payments, taken down information incorrectly, lied to us, and a couple of months ago we received our bill with the "new" payment totalling almost 350 dollars more per month stating that the escrow analysis done in April showed our taxes went up. When we checked with the local tax office, the taxes actually went down! Gateway had double payed the taxes and raised our payments based on that. Once they "investigated" the issue, after much researching on our part and calling them multiple times to keep them accountable, they agreed that they messed up, but informed us that we still had to pay the "new bill amount " for two months until September because there was morning that they could do about it. I feel morally obligated to let people know how incompetent and dishonest this company is and I beg you to go elsewhere to finance your home. One mistake or even two I could understand. We have had trouble since the beginning with gateway and I cannot imagine the trouble they have undoubtedly caused so many good people. The stress and uncertainty they caused my wife and I has been terrible and I don't want anyone to go thru this so I'm leaving this review in hopes that it may save someone from making the mistake of trusting gateway mortgage.

Would highly recommend!! Rachel and Katie were awesome! Rachel made the whole home buying process so smooth, fast and easy. Anytime I had a question she was right there to answer them for me and trust me I had alot of questions. Lol I am so glad we chose this bank for our home purchase and got the pleasure of working with these girls!!

Rachel Lester is amazing! The whole office and team has been a godsend. I feel as if they bent over backward to get me approved. I can't say enough good things about Rachel and her team! Would recommend to anyone!

They will tell you yes your approved, then weeks later before move in day all of a sudden they tell you no . A person who works for the company even said himself he wouldn't have recommended this company ! Made us waste money and time !!! Couldn't be more upset

Buyers beware! We had the unfortunate experience of working with Gateway Mortgage when selling our home in WV. Autumn McClelland was the lender working with the buyer on our house. I would like to give warning to anyone even THINKING about using Gateway-- if you don't want your confidential information shared- GO, better yet RUN,--somewhere else. I am from a small town. There are no strangers. If I went to school with you, more than likely, my parents went to school with your parents and the same goes for my grandparents. Autumn told me and my agent in NC in two separate conversations on a "between you and me" basis that my buyer had financial issues, reported money he didn't have, asked his grandmother to gift him money to be approved for a home purchase, and eventually had to be put on his grandmothers account to finalize his purchase of my home. I knew this buyer! I know his wife, his in-laws, etc. I would be completely mortified to have my confidential information shared so nonchalantly. Autumn McClelland lied to me on multiple occasions. I believe every person is entitled to vacations-- they've earned that time off. I do not believe one should lie to a consumer about completing tasks before vacation or while on a layover. When we were at our wits end, I contacted corporate offices for Gateway Mortgage. I spoke with Tammy and Eric who were both extremely helpful--but it gets better! After speaking with them, Autumn McClelland, the lender on the loan, began sending me hostile text messages about contacting corporate! I am also appalled that Autumn contacted my agents company and called me a "spiteful b*tch" among other things. I am thankful Tammy and Eric put a new lender on the account and the sale of my home was completed June 18 (3 weeks late). I would strongly urge consumers to avoid Gateway Mortgage, specifically in Hurricane, WV.

I really can't say enough good things about Chris and Laura at Gateway in Charleston. To say they bent over backwards to get me approved would be a major understatement! I was a difficult candidate for a mortgage to begin with and I honestly do not think I would've found another company who would've put the effort required to get me approved like they did. There were several obstacles throughout the process (to be expected, some not so much) & they were there to work me through them. We now live in our dream house and I recommend this office to anyone I can.

I would not recommend this company to anyone. They kept my application for 6 months, telling me every couple weeks that we were almost ready to close .. Week after week. Then after 6 months, made several excuses as to why 'underwriting' couldn't approve the loan. Very unprofessional and disorganized.
