I did not enjoy my stay here. I hate to say it because I have always loved the Canaan area. We were able to get a "suite" with a special late fall discount package, even with the discount it wasn't worth it. They are clever in not showing some photos of the suites, maybe that would save someone some money. The "balcony" has a great view of a pavilion rooftop and outdoor pool. They had a large bonfire going on Thursday night (but not any of the other weekend nights?) so the whole hotel reeked of smoke the whole weekend. Probably the most frustrating thing was the very clear priority the hotel and staff gave to the conference guests. One organization had about 200 guests in attendance, including many small children. The pool wasn't monitored, rules were not enforced, children were running around in the bar. Even the restaurant was suffering from the group's attendance, with one of the staff telling me "the large group gets priority this morning so breakfast is very very limited" I am sure if you have gotten this far you are thinking "wow this guy is entitled" but for 700 dollars I would've really liked to have enjoyed myself. The fireplace didn't work, the beds were not comfortable, the chair lift was broken, half the arcade/vending machines were broken, the staff was curt and stressed out, and the public spaces were continually littered with trash from the conference group. The hotel is due for a serious upgrade to get it into the 21st century. WV state lodges have always really impressed me, but this one, I will not be returning. Look for other alternatives in this area, the extra price is worth it.Rooms: Mediocre.Walkability: Oh it is very walkable, that's your only option. The hotel has obviously gone through some reorganizing to give priority to the conference section. You need to stop and ask for directions just to get to the lodging area from the front desk.Food & drinks: The drinks in the lounge were nice. The food, not so much, most everything tasted like it was heated up in the microwave, the cost was not worth it.

Comfortable with friendly staff and great views. The Lodge houses the Hickory Dining Room which offers great food, but also offers a nice gift shop as well as various activities.

The four bedroom cabin was comfortable but a bit dark. There was plenty of room as well as a front and back decks. There was also a fire pit and picnic table. The shower was hot. Wish it had washer and dryer. It was quiet and peaceful. The food at the lodge was surprisingly delicious.

We stayed in one of the deluxe cottages. It was very clean, comfortable and well kept. Service was friendly and excellent. It is a beautiful area with a number of natural attractions to enjoy. We had a very relaxing vacation and would be happy to return.

Stayed at the Campground, which was upgraded with a new shower house/bathroom, new playground. They did add more camper sites that are bigger and easy to get into. I came here as a kid camping with my parents when they first built campground and was building the ski lift and more. I was happy to see campground upgrades. Older sites are a tight fit for bigger campers, so really look hard at the pictures before booking.Canaan Valley is a beautiful place to visit.Noteworthy details: Nearest town is Davis. Canaan Valley Gas station/ store closes at 8 pm. Get what you want or need before then.

The Resort is very charming inside. It has a nice view to The Valley from the dining area as well as the surrounding area around the resort. The food is delicious and better yet menu prices are razonable. The trees at The Valley seem to be more colorful, so beautiful.

Very nice hotel / resort in Canaan Valley. Visit the area at least once a year typically in the fall. Have stayed at the resort quite a few times. Always clean rooms and the friendly service. There is a restaurant “The Hickory” on property which is nice. Property also has an indoor pool and hot-tub as well as an outdoor pool and several fire pits.Rooms: Clean rooms, some with beautiful views.Nearby activities: Numerous hiking / biking trails in and around the resort property.

Beautiful location in the West Virginia mountains on an expansive state park. Plenty of outdoor activities around. The hotel is well appointed and the staff are very helpful.

Well, I don’t know why this hotel is rated at two stars. The people on staff were very friendly and accommodating. The views around the resort were very beautiful and at times breathtaking when the morning fog rolls over the property and down from the mountains. The golf course was nice, but we didn’t get a chance to play And the ski resort looks to be top notch. Food is a bit pricey, but very well prepared and served. There is an abundance of wildlife on the state park property, and we were advised to be careful during dusk an dawn hours. This is a great getaway.

My husband and I recently went on a getaway at the Canaan Valley Resort, the location is STUNNING! We had a balcony room and the view was beautiful. However, the staff seemed overwhelmed and in return were not friendly or accommodating. Many times our interactions with the staff felt as if we were bothering them by simply being there. Many staff members were seen just looking at their phones. We dined in both the Laurel Lounge and the Hickory Dining Room. The service was slow in both and again, the staff seemed flustered. The resort could use some updating/maintenance as the hotub and indoor pool tile looked like it needed replaced, as well several other areas on the property looking like they needed attention. Overall we enjoyed our stay (just getting away in a beautiful location) however, my expectation for hospitality as a guest at a resort was not fulfilled.

Stayed at the cabins. Very comfortable, quiet, spacious, and clean. Right next to trails for easy access to hiking, biking, or the lodge.

We came to the lodge for a large conference, when we checked in and went to the first room, it was dirty, hadn't been vacuumed, swept, nothing. There were toe nail clippings on the bed and floor. Went to the front desk where I was informed this was the 4th room someone had complained was dirty. They upgraded our room to a new room "checked the new room for cleanliness" said it was great. I went into shower and the shower curtain was moldy! Front desk came down and changed it said they had turned over 137 rooms.. A moldy shower curtain didn't get that way over night! Room 150 smells like dog urine even had housekeeping come in and check and they smell it also. I understand short staffed but this is a bit much. The hot tube had a brown foam in it and the pool area could've been cleaner. The buffet at the restaurant for breakfast the food is bland. Definitely hasn't been a relaxing week!
