As an avid railfan, photographer and dirt bike rider, nothing can beat the Elkhorn Inn for location, comfort, service and upscale dining in Southern West Virginia. i have visited here over 20 times since 2010. Each time I never cease to be amazed at the decor, artwork and the eclectic antique furnishings. However, the proprietors, Dan & Elisse really make the place with their warmth, welcoming personalities and plethora of fascinating life experiences for discussion. The custom "Chef Dan" gourmet dinners are fantastic and capture cuisines from around the world such as Vietnamese, African, Indian, Italian, etc. I look forward to my next trip back.

Dan and Elisse do an amazing job with the Elkhorn Inn! I have stayed multiple times (both the Greenbrier room and the Blue room with a private bath) in rooms that provide amazing views to the railroad tracks across from the Inn. The beds are super comfortable! Dan is also a mean chef!! He makes a great Pho which Elisse pairs with her garden fresh authentic Vietnamese herbs! I also can’t forget the Chicken Piccata that he makes with lemon, capers, a white wine sauce, and serves over noodles! It’s always a treat to be able to stay at the Elkhorn inn!

Beautifully run establishment. For train lovers, there is frequent traffic just across the street.

Very nice place with one of the nicest husband-wife teams running it you'll ever meet. Group of 5 of us came for a weekend getaway and had a great time. Plenty of fish in the creek (and the occasional big one if you keep at it and know where to look) and plenty of trails if off-roading is your thing.

Delicious food at a unique location. The Inn has a striking collection of contemporary artwork on display, along with many interesting bits of history.

I have stayed here several times and found it to be very nice. The accommodations are comfortable and clean and the food - the food is out of this world GREAT! It is the best place to stay in the region. Motorcyclists, ATV riders, railroad enthusiatists, history buffs, fly fishermen, and FOODIES will find this the perfect place to stay. I recently returned for their Mark Twain Weekend. It was wonderful. The meals were all based on Mark Twain's writings about foods he enjoyed. "Mark Twain" was there the entire weekend speaking and reading and making it an event worth going to. Looking forward to the next one that I understand is coming soon.

Place is a hole in the wall with super nice staff. The surrounding towns are obviously very depressed and very very dirty. Went here to fly fish for trout in Elkhorn creek. The creekndespite having obscene amounts of trash and debris was full of fish. Unfortunately all the rainbows were very little. In the 4 to 8 inch range. Dont knkw if there's too many fish competing for food or if people are overfishing the waters. I'd go back though but thats because I seriously just love fishing.

It is 4:37am as I type this. I'm awake because im cold. the space heater for my room doesn't really keep it all that warm. The one in the shared bathroom doesn't either. The owners seem nice enough. I don't think they want to wear my skin or anything. the first floor is straight up filthy. and strange. There are dogs and cats which wouldn't be too bad but the cat is meowing outside of my room. the shared bathroom for the floor is pretty dirty as well. There are not really any other hotels in the area which is why the travel person for my company booked me here. My travel person can burn in hell. was scheduled for 2 nights. only stayed one. made the hour+ drive from princeton. if you love trains trains trains then stay here. Maybe you won't get Hep C.

Great spot along the Pocahontas Division of the Norfolk Southern in the coal fields of Southern WV.
Railfans, ATVrs, Fisherman will all love the location.
Don't miss a chance to have a meal prepared by Chef Dan either!
