340 Defense

Hours: 340 Defense is an outdoor shooting range and firearms training center located within a one-hour drive from Washington, DC, serving the areas of Northern Virginia, central Maryland, and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The facility features four shooting ranges, including pistol, 50 yard, 100 yard, and 300 yard ranges, with the ability to shoot at 200, 250, and 300 yards on the longest range. It offers various firearms training courses conducted by NRA certified instructors. Many reviewers praise the range for its friendly and helpful staff, emphasizing their attentiveness and safety awareness without being overbearing. The range's layout allows for lane independence, letting shooters call their own bays cold and manage targets freely, which adds to the overall positive experience. Visitors appreciate the clean, well-maintained environment and the ability to shoot at longer distances, making it ideal for sighting in rifles. Several reviewers mention making friends at the range and enjoying the social aspect. However, some concerns are raised about the cost and policies. The fee is considered high compared to indoor ranges, especially since additional charges apply for cardboard backers and sometimes for range access. A 100-yard/1 MOA accuracy test is required to shoot at 200 and 300 yards, which some find unnecessary or restrictive, as it may be difficult for many rifles to meet the standard. Despite these points, the range's quality, safety, and friendly atmosphere make it a popular choice for outdoor shooting and firearm training in the area.
