The Greenbrier is a historic resort known for its breathtaking grounds, beautiful decor, and interesting bunker tour, which many find to be a memorable experience. The staff are consistently described as wonderful, kind, and apologetic. The grounds are very well kept, and the property offers lots of activities, beautiful weddings, and good food at its catered buffets and cafes. However, the resort is widely considered insanely overpriced. Guests report that rooms, food, activities, and merchandise are all wildly expensive, with a mandatory 9.75% Historic Preservation Fund fee added to everything, which many feel is a joke given the state of upkeep. Some areas and furniture are noted as shabby, dilapidated, or not well preserved. Issues with accommodations are common, including broken air conditioning, brown water, uncomfortable mattresses and pillows, missing room amenities like robes, and the need for pool reservations. The historic building can be very hot in hallways during summer. While the distinctive decor is understood for its historical value, it is not to everyone's taste. Many guests conclude that the value does not add up for the amount of money paid, with some vowing not to return despite the property's positive aspects.

We stayed there for a few days a while back. It’s beautiful and enjoyed the stay. Only downside is the distance for most people.

The grounds are beautiful and the vast majority if the service is impeccable. I would suggest, that the service by the wait staff in The Main Dining Room was not up to expectations. All other supporting staff members were awesome. We will definitely skip that fine dining option next time for a second visit to Drapers!
