Chad is very honest if your order has a problem he will make it right.I recommend his online store to everyone. We have hundreds of hummingbirds feeding on Chad's 32oz feeders. By August we were feeding 3.5 gallons of humming bird syrupa week. We use 4- 32oz feeders on our north north porch. We set them up in April by August we have hundreds of hummingbirds of all Varieties. The amazing thing for hummingbirds is they are all feeding together. The design of the feeder gives them plenty of room to set 8 birds on single feeder. We have had as many as 32 hummingbirds feeding at once. Our north porch sounds like a buzzsaw. Now If a feeder is empty the hummingbirds will come to the front of the house and let us know.Thank you,Chad

I've always been hesitant to come here because I've heard mixed reviews. My husband and I decided to check it out for a Friday date night, and we were pleasantly surprised. There was quite a long wait for aso we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. The bartender was friendly and definitely knew what he was doing when it came to recommending (and making) drinks. The wait was shorter than I had initially anticipated, which we were happy about. We were seated at a large booth, where the decor gives off kind of an East Coast nautical vibe. They played some old-school music including Michael Jackson. The restaurant was loud, but the food was delicious. I would definitely be back if I was in the Monroe Street area!

We ordered Chicken Picatta and it was amazing. Ot had lemon-y taste and the potatoes were too good. A must try.

This review is integrated over several dinners here, both with a larger family group and with a small party of two. If you are reading this and wondering if you should go to Gates & Brovi for dinner, the short version is "yes, you should go." The food consistently good - I feel like I can order anything on the menu and I will be happy with my meal. Fancy enough for a nice dinner out but also a place that families eat at? Yes, somehow it all works here. Fresh oysters in Wisconsin? Yes, they are good here!

I wanted to like you this time around. I've been there three times. The first time when you first opened, you still seemed to be looking for an identity, but I did appreciate your Braunschweiger sandwich. Second time, something changed - It was winter and the comfort food that we had was excellent. This time, all I can say that despite a busy evening, we were able to be seated right away. Unfortunately, the food was awkward and I never really got asked if I liked it (with the exception of the cheese curds-they were great!). Two of us had burgers. It's nice to see that they are locally sourced, but the cook job was variable and we ended up leaving portions. The iceberg salad was okay. That really seemed to be one of the only vegetarian options for our diverse group. You've made some improvements to your interior space - looks nice. I'll be waiting for your next menu change.

This place is awesome. The aesthetic is somewhere between north woods cabin and Florida fish camp. Everything on the menu is worth trying, but if you don't have week to invest, start with the curds, try the special, and finish with pie and ice cream. Grab a few mixed drinks and have a good time.

I have mixed feelings about Gates and Brovi. It's a breathtaking space, with plenty of exposed red brick, a reclaimed wood ceiling, exposed duct work and a gorgeous wood bar. The window seats feature a stellar view of the UW Arboretum and the spacious booths are super comfortable. The addition of music by Sinatra and Louie Armstrong further enhanced the ambiance of the experience. However, the quality of the food and the spotty service have left me disappointed on more than one occasion. The one time I ate at the bar, I felt I my presence was cramping his ability to stare into his iPad. My laconic server rattled off the name of the special, no details, no price. He stared at his iPad for a good five minutes after the kitchen completed my order before making the effort to deliver my now lukewarm pizza. I've had better success with the prompt and friendly servers that handle the dining area. This uneven performance also plagues the kitchen. My prosciutto, caramelized onion and mushroom pizzette was a lukewarm mess. While I had high hopes for this combination of ingredients, the dish fell flat, due to a soggy crust. I get the raw egg this is the hot culinary accouterment, but it needs to make sense in the context of the other ingredients and that was not the case. To their credit, the kitchen did a superb job with the perfectly prepared caramelized onions. I had better success with the Fried Chicken sandwich (arugula pesto, fontina cheese, aioli, eggplant caponata, arugula, red onion on ciabatta). While the bottom of the sandwich was soggy from the pesto, overall with it was a terrific meal. The chicken nicely prepared, it featured a slight crunch on the exterior and a tender well-seasoned interior. I also was a fan of the homemade slaw (purple cabbage, red onions, carrots, in a vinegar dressing). Bread was nicely toasted with excellent crunch. The draw of the comforting space will keep me coming back, with hopes the low spots will improve with time.

Good food, terrible service. 2 of us got the special, it was just ok. 2 of us got the chicken piccata (pictured). That was really good, I wish I knew the chicken was breaded, but after scraping it off, it was still tender. I asked for a gluten free menu and was told there isn't one (and it's not noted on the menu), but they had GF pizza and I could get a burger no bun. Not great options. The pizza looked good when others ordered it. When i ordered a white claw at first, I was given a Diet Pepsi. He eventually brought me a white claw, but along with others at the table, I was never asked if I wanted another drink. The worst part was that he wasn't a friendly server and then after waiting for 20 minutes for our bill (and he walked by over and over as we were right by the kitchen) we finally flagged him down and got our bill.

Lemon chicken piccata was heavenly! My husband and I I ordered this same dish on a cold stormy night which we never do... but it ended up being the best decision! Just the right temperature, flavorful and comforting after a long day. The service was great even on a busy Saturday night we felt well taken care of. The atmosphere is fun and the bar is really nice but somehow this place is very family friendly. There were lots of families with kids all around the restaurant having dinner. This was our first time here but we will definitely be back. I ordered a bullet old fashioned and it was $9.50 it seemed a bit high compared to other local establishments where I order this same drink but for that reason I only had one and it was delicious! Looking forward to trying this place again maybe on a week night and maybe during happy hour.

I love the clean simple atmosphere of this place. Their food is always spot on as well. Let's talk oysters: I've eaten oysters all around the United States and at some of the finest restaurants and I am sometimes disappointed, but never at Gates and Brovi! A quick shout out to the oyster shuckers: these oysters never contain random shards of shell or sand which can really get in the way of enjoying the taste of the oyster. They always detach the oyster without losing the delicious brine. Detaching seems to be a rarity at other restaurants. I am not one to overly condiment my oysters very much because I love the taste of the oyster itself, however I do sometimes use a little bit of mignonette, but Gates and Brovi doesn't serve that and I wish they would! Their service is always excellent and the cocktails are great too. If I could change one thing it is that one particular seating area where it is half chairs and the other half is a long wooden plank which is affixed to the wall. This plank is far too narrow for anybody over 5 foot tall. Oh yeah, and parking is a B and they don't take reservations, but don't let that stop you from going cuz it's a Madison gem.

Great neighborhood joint! Cozy, Cape Cod-esque menu with a midwestern/Wisconsin nice vibe. This place has an amazing fish fry with a large portion. I am a cole slaw snob and just loved their fresh, tangy, crisp version. Their fried cod is crispy on the outside and melted and buttery inside. Fries are yummy too. I'm a fan. I also love their pizzas! They are GINORMOUS! One pizza lasts me 3 meals. I Love the pickled jalapeí±o with cotija, cilantro and chile dressing (they made me a vegetarian version without the chorizo). As someone who lives in the neighborhood, it's a great spot to either belly up to the bar or stop over for dinner with friendly service.

SMELT?! What the heck is that even? It doesn't matter. It was DELICIOUS! If you're craving for some fish fry with a little bit of a modern twist, this place is for you! Craving a little more of that WISCO SIDE LOVE? Try their cheese curds! One of the better places in Madison, for sure! A little more on the adventurous side? Try their oysters! Broke? It doesn't matter, oyster happy hour between 3 and 6 pm! Not adventurous at all? Not a problem! Pizzas for everyone! There's truly something for everyone. Can you SMELT what I'm putting down?

What I love about this place is how they nail the basics. The kids chicken tenders are the best tenders I've ever had. The pancakes, the sausage...it's clear they make everything from scratch or source from unique, local providers. Much respect and a great meal!

Big fan of the Gates & Brovi fare. This my first time here, but already I stan. Had the cheese curds (reminiscent of Merchant, breadcrumb batter--not tempura), Caesar salad (don't be afraid of the anchovies!), and the special--a buttery salmon rigatoni. No wait on a Wednesday night and service was delightful. Is it possible to have a romantic date in what yelp has categorized as a "sports bar"? Based on tonight? Totally.
